There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about Prince's 2 weddings. I know for his marriage with Mayte, it spoke of it being full of family and friends and doves were released after the ceremony, but other than that there's only 1 pic of the Mayte+P wedding and ZERO info about Manuela. I searched the org but can't really find much info.

My question is, how were his weddings? Did he invite old friends like Bobby Z, W&L, Dez, Andre, Apollonia, Jill? I know some like Carmen were definitely not invited... but what about the ones he still kept somewhat in contact with and liked? IK apollonia said they stayed in touch... I don't know about the others.

So who showed up to Prince's weddings, and how were the weddings themselves? Or is this information not really known to the general public?

It would be kind of weird if he didn't invite his old band-members and protegees... marriage (for some people, and I'm guessing Prince too) is a really sacred and life-changing moment, and it might be an indicator of his relationship with someone you'd guess he was close to if he didn't invite them.

Mayte said in an interview that she had a symbol necklace on and pointed to the symbol when saying the vows instead of saying Prince's name.

He changed his name to a symbol because he was pissed at WB and wanted to destroy the Prince brand. If no one bought Prince's records because they thought he was crazy, WB would make no money and Prince could negotiate to get his masters back. This is why the Purple Rain remaster was announced with the new deal that gives him his masters back. He's implied as much over the years. There's nothing mysterious, mystical or being 'on some really weird shit' about it.

Every Prince fan knows the reason he changed his name, but thanks for re-stating it I guess.

My point was, it made sense if he was fighting with Warner Bros. and used TAFKAP/ as a device to release music he wanted, destroying the 'Prince' brand, remasters, etc etc... But what did that have to do with his wedding to Mayte? Was Warner Bros. making money off his marriages too? It IS weird shit to 90% of the world to have your spouse point at a necklace when saying her vows instead of saying a name. Just saying.

Why he tried to make it a mysterious/mystical decision at the beginning when it really wasn't, I dunno. Maybe a PR stunt gone wrong. But your own wedding and you're still convinced you're 'THE UNPRONUNCABLE SYMBOL'... couple this with the Oprah interview and some of the other things he was saying at the time, an he came off batshit insane.

He didn't . All official documents (e.g. lawsuit threats vs fansites) from that era still had his full name.

He did not legally change his name (that probably would have been difficult wrt the nature of his new name), but he changed his stage name as an artist.

Btw, when Michael B. was active on the org a couple of years ago, he was asked about the name change thing and what he thought about the motivations and reasons behind it. IIRC, he answered that he felt that there was more to the story than just Prince's attempt to get out of the WB contract.
