3rdeyegirl twitter tells funkberry Prince & NPG Official ablum coming, then retweeted by PurpleEssence Great news! I knew this 3rd album would hit! [Edited 10/20/14 12:25pm] "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

2 Much releases 2 come.....Much Confusion.....there will be no place for PR DELUXE?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I've heard the NPG album is well sequenced and actually now contains a significant amount of new material. It isn't just a compilation of previously released online tracks, but a cohesive album.

I'm in snoozeville about PR deluxe. All you others say Hell Yea!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I find it quite absurd for a fan to complain about their favorite artist releasing TOO MUCH music, only here such absurdities happen There will be enough place for PR Deluxe on YOUR shelves, won't there? So what then? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Really hope this doesn't mean he's going to turn up on SNL and play songs from an album that's never going to be released.

Great news! The wooh is on the one!

It doesn't matter anymore. When oversaturation of the market did matter, Prince and Warners blew it big time from 1985-1993. What would be better, is for Prince and Warners to understand that cds take 80 minutes of music. It would be nice to have some cds filled up. Instead, they are milking us with 3 different albums...and buying songs on the cds we already paid for on downloads as well...
Plect and AOA total 93 minutes....not good.
Prince purposely made Crystal Ball 40 minutes or so a disc just to be hard headed...less music, more cds...bad business.

Who said that Warner Bros will distribute the new album?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Getting people to by 3 cds instead of 2 AND making people pay twice for the same music is not exactly bad business, is it? The wooh is on the one!

I think the NPG album may be distributed by Kobalt or else have another method of release, because reportedly, Warner Bros were not interested in it.
What Prince is trying to do in my opinion, with the recent albums, is to deliver something tight and cohesive that works as a sequential listening experience. He's been accused previously, of including too much filler in his albums, particularly funk jams, etc. and not editing enough. AOA is an incredibly strong and potent journey that I wouldn't want to see diluted for the sake of 'bonus' tracks and padding. I'd quite happily take those songs on some kind of compilation designed for 'fans' though. Same goes for extended versions, jams and other experiments (such as 'Midnight Blues' on 3RDEYETV for example).

I personally very much enjoy when an album contains the same length of material as a vinyl. Better with short and sweet, than just a bunch of fillers. People are also nowadays too busy to check out a full length album. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

I agree with CB, as it was a comp of totally random outtakes aimed at fans, they should all 3 have been 80mn, it was frustrating as hell! . When it comes to new albums I think the position is somewhat harder to stand, for 3 reasons: . 1/ There's been a huge trend to return to the old 45mn duration after the 1990-2005 craze to do 65 to 80mn albums all the time. I suspect the reason is that artists came to realize that people were more receptive to a good 45mn than to an album that was so long that unless u were totally into it u'd get bored 4 or 5 tracks before it ends. I personally came to realize that I definitely feel more comfy listening to 45 minutes than 75, unless the music is really blowing me away. . 2/ CD is a format on the decline, at least it's not the leading format anymore and it will keep declining. It's not a matter of opinion or predictions anymore: sales figures are explicit. A digital album can be... er... forever. So basically now albums can quite indifferently be 20 minutes or 4 hours and I believe this is part of the reason why EP's have become such a popular format over the last 5 years. On the other hand, since digital prices are usually based on a 1 song = 99 cents basis, the cost of buying 3 albums or 2 will be quite similar, discouts aside, for the buyer because buying 2x15 songs or 3x10 songs costs the same in the end. . 3/ More importantly even: albums are works of art. Even if they remain mainly compilation of songs they're usually from a single set of sessions and put together according to a certain logic: there needs to be a certain cohesiveness and a certain pace: artists will decide which songs and in which order with aesthetic preoccupations in mind. From that point of view saying an album (that's not a compilation but a real album) should be 45 minutes to fill CD's is as nonsensical as telling a writer he should write 100 more pages because his novel is too short, or a director to shoot 2 hours of additional scenes because a DVD can countain more film: if an artist believes his album is balanced and his story is told in 30 minutes and that adding material would spoil it or break its pace, there's nothing to add to that, it's their "baby". AOA and PlecEl are 2 distinct projects with both their own pace and identity, the 3rd album will certainly be in another mood, so I enjoy being able to listen to those albums separately.

So is Prince, if this further new album is (hopefully) coming out sometime soon.
Prince on phone to Warners, shouting - 'Why do you keep talking about this ancient album we did years ago?? What's it called again? Purple ...?' yawns . 'No, I've told you before, of course you can't have any vault tracks, I might need them for the album I'm releasing with Sony week after next!' . [Edited 10/20/14 11:51am]

Big City is definiteyl on it as it was #bigcity in the the tweet.
Oher stuff?
Shades Of Umber - how could a tune like this be left of a horns release? it's magical Revelation - definitely, because NPG Official is playing on this track. The Excess Space - perhaps "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

It was definitely there this morning and it's on the Purplessence twitter account (which has been verified) now. If it has been deleted you might find some remnants of the conversation on Baron's twitter as he was involved in the discussion along with Jester (I think). It was tweeted as confirmed by 3RDEYEGIRL though.

2 Young 2 Dare was also mentioned as being included today.

All of this. Demanding an artist fill an album just because the space is there is nonsense.

I think you're confusing the 3rdEyeGirl account with Dr. Funkenberry's. it has indeed been retweeted by Purplessence though. https://twitter.com/baron...8623959040

Purpleessence has not been verified by Twitter. If it had, it would have a checkmark next to the username.

I don't get the current need to fill every minute of a cd with music. i would rather have a cohesive 45 minute cd of music than fill the whole cd. 80 mins is too long and hard to digest. i know we got 2 albums but both were seperate cohesive albums with a sound on each. Some bands insist on it these days and the albums suffer. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

. The core problem is crappy songs, and that hasn't been solved. Sure, AOA seems to have been compiled with some thought in mind, more than previous records, but it doesn't change the fact the songs aren't good. © Bart Van Hemelen

Warner's refusal, is this the reasoning behind not promoting his current albums? R they fighting again, already?

I believe you are making an assumption at this point. Where is your proof that there is fighting between the too? Prince has to pay for more promotion if he wants it. It's a WB and NPG release. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

What is a fact is the majority of people who posted about it on the org enjoy the album. Just admit it. It isn't fact how can it be fact. Provide me with the evidence where it has been universally agreed any song ever written isn't any good.
