Prince is usuallynto neat and/or precise to give SLTS a tolerable approach.

I think he should start playing right after Chris Rock opens the show. That way, we get ten good minutes and don't have to suffer through so many unfunny comedy sketches. Let's face it, the show is dead. Jim Carrey could not even save it. His car commercial was the most popular segment last week and it included no cast members. lol!!

I'm hoping he performs Wow. I'm loving that song! No More Haters on the Internet.

I'm usually not anxious about anything Prince does because I'm a selfish misanthrope. As long as I like something, I don't care if others like it. But, I'll admit that because I've received so many emails and phone calls from friends and family members who are "REALLY EXCITED" about Prince being on SNL with Chris Rock, I do want him to do well. I'm amazed at how many of my friends and family members are taking notice of his two new records, and it's clear to me that his SNL performance will impact whether or not they purchase the two new albums, which is somewhat stupid because they can hear both of the albums for free online, but, for some reason, this SNL performance is really resonating with many of them. And, while I don't think that the stage is ever too big for Prince, he's proven to go left when everyone else wants him to go right with sometimes less than desirable results. * With that stated, I'll only be disappointed if he doesn't do one song from each album; yet, I hope "FunknRoll" isn't one of them because he's performed that publically already. (And, since I'll be recording the performance, I don't need another live version of "FunknRoll" for my collection. Like I said, I'm a selfish misanthrope.) Other than that, I love most of the songs on both albums, but I'd like to see a few personal favs, such as "Clouds," "WOW," "The Gold Standard," "Pretzlebodylogic," "Anotherlove," or "Time." I just don't want old songs. I like the new music and want to hear that.

I am very happy with his 10's work so far.
I could care less what he plays tonight, he could come out and do an 8 minute jam of the inspector gadget theme song for all I care, I am sure he would slay it. [Edited 11/1/14 10:56am] "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

You're probably right, but I gotta admit "Pretzelbodylogic" is pretty darn sloppy. lol, anyway, if he at least performs "Wow", then I will be a happy Panda.

Clearly you and I have different criteria on what determines the quality of an artist's music. In that respect, "quality" here is somewhat subjective, so it looks like we're going to have to agree to disagree, because I do not in any way share in your perception. When I listen to AOA and PE I hear music that is on par with any of Prince's previous work and the work of other artists in the industry in terms of the the art, science and psychology underlying the songs' instrumental and vocal arrangements, composition, lyrics, emotional resonance, hooks, harmonies and melodies. . But I'm not a musician; perhaps you are. If that is the case, you would certainly have more of a technical gauge on the quality of his work than I do. Fortunately, there's enough room in a forum for everyone's opinion, so it's all good. To each their own. . As you well know, Prince was a child prodigy, signed with WB in '78 for an unprecedented amount of money--a notable feat for any artist, let alone an African American artist at the tender age of 20, who had yet to release his first album. He has a 36-year career under his belt and an international and multi-generational fan base. Again, one's idea of "quality" can be subjective. One person's negative or positive opinion of a song does not determine its quality. But this kind of worldwide and consistent receptivity to his music, over three and a half decades, shows us there is conscensus that Prince's music is worthy of attention, and is of a level of quality that demands it. That he has earned so much respect, admiration and accolades from so many music critics and, especially, his own peers in the industry--musicians, songwriters, singers from all backgrounds and in all genres of music--is powerful testimony to the extraordinary caliber of his music. . You are entitled to your perception--it may even be the correct one, for all I know--and I respect that. I actually kind of appreciate you sharing it because it allows me to further vet the reasons and data underlying my own opinion, which in turn allows me come from an even more informed place and with greater conviction. That said, my opinion has not wavered: Prince has nothing to hide with AOA, PE or any of his albums. Thus, no need or use for gimmicks with regard to SNL. Whether you like AOA & PE or not; whether you agree with tonight's performance or not, the man's got MAD SKILLS, son. . And I stand by my initial statement. That uncprecedented contract with WB in 1978 was the first of many times throughout Prince's storied career that he has bucked the trends, defied expectations, and broken down barriers. It is a consistent pattern, and while it has at times rubbed some folks in the industry the wrong way, the level of respect he commands buys him allowances that few other artists would be permitted. Even in 2014 he continues the tradition of bending the rules: topping both Rock and R&B charts simultaneously with the initial release of AOA and PE, and tonight's 8-minute live performance on SNL.
