Good post...wow. Hmmmm. The funk of that Time album is impeccable, but id take P's vocals over Morris' any Day.. Dirty Mind by a just a lil bit.

Dirty Mind all day long. The Time don't really do it for me. Great grooves but I just find Morris Day's whiny squawking irritating. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

1980 compared to 1982? Big difference in the Prince world. Live drums vs. drum machines for a start.

I can't really pick a which is better because it's all Prince, The Time and The Revolution, right there on the peak of a very long lasting love affair with me. From 1980's Dirty Mind to Mid-1981's The Time Album to Late 1981's Controversy to 1982's What Time Is It? and 1999, musically speaking - my little 10 to 12 year old ass - was turned straight the FUNK out!
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

That is like asking if I prefer my left ball or my right ball, haha! I need both, and would not be able to pick a favorite. Great albums! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Dirty Mind hands down. | |

They're both great, but Dirty Mind because what the fuck. IT'S DIRTY MIND. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Hmm.... I don't know what the audience ever was for Dirty Mind. Usually Prince fans don't even like it. Warner's nearly dropped Prince as a recording artist over that record. I like it more or less. Definitely less than the Prince album, Controversy and 1999. What Time Is It was a hit. Audiences still remember those songs today. Of course What Time Is It? is better.

I don't know which is better. I think that what time is it was the time's best album and i also think that dirty mind was the start of the prince revolution.

If you're driving down the street, old school style, bumpin' and talkin' shit with the boys...What Time Is It, all the way. Make it so, Number One...

Dirty Mind as it was before What time is it, inspired what time is it and it has no fillers. 3 of the Tracks on What time is it, are filler - Onedayimgonnabesomebody, Gigolos get lonely and I don't want to leave you. They are cool songs, but are nothing next to the Walk, Wild and Loose and 7779311. . Still compare these to monsters like Uptown, Dirty Mind, When U were mine, Partyup and Head, there is no comparison. What Time is it is a collection of great funk songs and some better than average filler. Dirty mind has no filler and some of the most classic songs Prince has ever recorded. Its a manifesto not an album. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Well analysed! Looking at it this way I agree that DM is the actual winner here, just for pure consistency. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

All I can say... I prefer Pandemonium over most of Prince's 90's releases...

Ain't no filler on What Time is It

C'mon...Sister is 1:31 sec. So that's filler for sure. Gotta Broken Heart Again is probably also a candidate for filler, because it's a below average song. Gigolos is an R&B classic. It can't be in the filler category, like "Chili Sauce" or "Ronnie Talk To Russia" or something. So at most both albums have two filler tracks, or at least songs that aren't as strong as the other material. With that said, When You Were Mine, Head and to a far lesser extent, Dirty Mind are the only songs on that album anyone recognizes except for the most commited Prince fans. Of that group only When You Were Mine and Head are true standout cuts. What Time Is It has four, no doubt, funk/r&b classics.

Yes but sister hits you with its frenzied vocal delivery, controversial subject matter, and hilarious vocal punch. Its not filler, and Gotta a broken heart is not filler either, its a beautiful plaintive ballad. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Tru DATT! LOVE ME some "Dirty Mind!" REAL vocals (unlike Day who's a drummer turned vocalist.) It doesn't always work. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Really? When or where doesn't it work?

Dirty Mind is better, but severely overrated. Maybe do, just not like did before

Morris's vocals are arguably better than Prince's overtly nasal and at times unnecessary Dirty Mind falsetto. Maybe do, just not like did before

I think 777-9311 is the most memorable of the songs compared to songs on dirty mind. [Edited 10/29/14 5:32am]
