used to be gagged and bound

everything comes from psalm

all that brave under the crown

and we aint

I hear "Everything comes from sound/all vibrating under the crown"

Once upon a time in the land of Sinaplenty

.

Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great
4 those who want 2 go

A feeling of self-worth (everybody's looking)
Will caress U (for the answers)
The size of the whole wide world will decrease (how the story started)
(and how it will end)
The love of God's creation will undress U
And time spent alone my friend, will cease

A few months ago when I mentioned that 3EG sounds Christian influenced I was shouted down.

.

Hannah and Josh in their interviews, they talk about their stint with Prince like it was some gift from God that they were destined for, and they are openly proselytising, and all this comes across as arrogant and naive imo.

.

Maybe this is not felt that strong in the US where this way of talking about one's faith might be more common and accepted.

.

I don't mind musicians having faith and practicing a religion. It can influence their music and can come out in their music and that is fine if it aligns with one's own worldview or spiritual view or it has some universal appeal.

It's very common in the US, sadly.

In some way I expect R&B and funk and soul to have spiritual or religious lyrics but not rock.

Rock music is usually only with religious messages when it's Christian rock. No?

Maybe I'm mistaken.

U2 has had overtly christian lyrics in their music before, I wonder if their fan board reacts like the little girl from the Exorcist when hearing them.. biggrin

.

Im not even a christian, but its surprising to see so many people behaving judgmentally and bigotedly towards christians in the same way people claim christians are to them..

Change it one more time..

why would funk have spiritual or religious lyrics?

add to that Country music, Folk Music, also Raggae

And I would think you will find spiritual/religious tones in 'classic rock' or 60 rock/hippie rock etc

But Prince has done that since Purple Rain era

True, but I don't believe he comes off as super preachy in most of his music (not specifically ayway), except for TRC, which imo the music certainly made of up for the preachy lyrics. Even though he's a supposed JW, it's not a major glowing them thru out his music. There may be hints of it here & there but it's usually subtle to a certain degree.

I really don't know why this is even an issue brought up on the org. Hanna Ford is not Prince, 3rd Eye Girl is not Christian Rock.

.

And again, to some people just saying God is preachy, and to some just being positive in lyrics is preachy. I mean there were people on the org saying "I don't like LOL because it's too preachy"

I don't like it but not for those reasons.

.

Sorry but people in general are known to be unrational and outspoke on a lot of stuff in general. And bitchy. There are a lot of music styles and messages I'm not into. So what. There are Prince albums I find booooring. So what.

Prince: God, 4 the Tears in Your Eyes, the Cross, Eye No, Anestesia, God Is Allive, Planet Earth and I'm skipping over a lot...

Agreed.

Purple Rain... Gold...

To be honest it'd probably be easier to list the Prince songs that have no spiritual/religious undertones or blatent lyrics.

Then, you would be wrong. The song, Purple Rain, is obviously rock and roll. As is Let's Go Crazy.

Indeed it is.

And it is strange, because Prince has always been a 'Christian' in his songs.

A 'sinner' yes, but that's core Christian teaching: we are ALL sinners.

But always about God and always - more or less - 'preaching' .

And still a certain segment of anti-religious Prince fanatcis take every opportunity they get to smash their nonsensical arguments on it. So emotional, it says more about themselves and where they are standing in their life, than on the music they pretend to be reacting to.

I don't see 3rdeyegirl as christian rock. However, I applaud Hanna for speaking about her faith. I am also a believer and it makes me feel good to know that Prince has someone in his band who can share the word of God with him. I have seen the healing power of God and prophetically speaking, he has done wonders in my life. If Hanna has experienced what I have, Then I would say Prince has done well in hiring her. Right On Hanna! Don't let anybody get you down, girl!

Love this kind of talk. All so wonderfully vague and meaningless. Sorry. No disrespect but what kind of healing powers are you talking about?

In the past, I'm sure you've have some kind of infection, right?. Did you trust in the healing powers of God or did you haul ass to a doctor and pick medical science? I think we both know what you did.

All I ask is that people get real. Nothing more.

Vague? Yes, but not meaningless. And yes, healed. Like as in sick, prayed for and than healed. But not from an infection, at least not yet. I don't expect you to understand, sprititually speaking. However, since you have no knowledge of the Christian faith, you really should refrain from putting one down. It's rude. But this is the Org and I expect it. Heck, with a username like your's, what should one really expect? No disrespect, bro or girl, whatever you are.

Back to the original post; My post was real in that I was commenting on 3rdeyegirl not being "christian rock". However, your response has nothing to do with the subject at hand. POLICE!!!

It's all good. I'm not mad at you. Too much negativity in the world. All we need is love. Make love not war. If you don't like my words about love, blame Prince; because his music did it to me. razz

Purple Rain is an obvious rock anthem IMO. It's the closer to his Rock crossover album.

Gold is possibly more pop than rock but it has a similar rock anthem feel (the released version)

You nailed it. Thanks for your intellectual honesty. I decided to speak out for the people who might not have felt comfortable doing so. I'd rather be talking about Prince's music on here, but I'll be damned if I'm going to put up with what is essentially social bullying. Tolerance shouldn't be a one-way thing.

So are Josh and Hannah JWs? Judging by their devotion to a god as outlined above, it must have been extremely difficult to not throw some god stuff onto the albums. What about the other 2 girls, they also look up to a god-like mythical being?

Hannah appears to be a born-again Christian, along with Joshua. Born-again's and JW's aren't particularly compatible. Well, strictly speaking, no other Christian denomination (particularly Christendom) is as JW's consider them as part of Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, due to be destroyed very soon.

It is just an opinion.

I thought it was ok to have opinions here on the org, no?

What sounds so religious to you, just curious?

Nothing specific. I think it just belongs on a Christian Rock radio station. What other kinds of radio stations can you imagine hearing this shit on?

That's the thing: Prince has not "always been a christian in his songs".
His philosophy or spirituality as expressed in his songs has been and continues to be a mix of christian and other beliefs including esoteric and blending sexual with spiritual. Akashic records. Egyptian. His thing about the third eye / pineal gland is pure esoteric/new age stuff.
