The UK is a big disappointment. The new Prince records didn't even reach top 5 in sales in the UK. Barely made the top 10. This will be a north american tour. Count on it!
It's interesting how often in Prince's history records that have been successful in the UK have not in the US and vice-versa.

Happy he's gonna be on SNL. However, I can't believe most here (including myself) was expecting something along the lines of P.R. remaster announcement, tour info etc. Its Princey were talking about.. But an appearance on SNL is a good prequel to the above mentioned.... Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews. |

There was an article written by Rolling Stones on Yahoo tv about Prince appearing on SNL, and zero comments from people.....I guess that shows how excited folks are by the news. |

Well, being honest - SNL isn't all that funny anymore and with the exception of Tina Fey's Sarah Palin...hasn't been in years. So with Prince being Prince and considering he did SNL in 2006 in his usual Neno Brown...umm...Prince --"The world is mine!" -- way. I really wouldn't hold my breath on his showing up in a few skits.

So believe it or not this has been trending on Twitter, although nothing confirmed... Various media sites are saying this SNL performance will be performance for the 30th Anniversary of Purple Rain...
Maybe Warners master plan is working. SNL performance in November, to promote the re release for December... Let the speculations begin. |

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain, Saturday Night Live announced Tuesday that Prince will fill the role of musical guest on the show's Nov. 1 episode, according to RollingStone Magazine.
The Minnesota-born performer will be joined by his backing band 3rdEyeGirl, with whom Prince recorded his two new albums Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum. Chris Rock will host the episode, which marks the comedian's first SNL visit in 18 years.
The SNL gig is Prince's third time performing on the live sketch comedy and variety show.

Amen. @Purplessence was making it sound like a tour only because Funkenberry posted the press release from WB last week saying a tour was forthcoming so they thought that was the news. Funny. She was begging DrFunk for followers and he would retweet em, most likely because the camp had a gun to his head. He got them a LOT of his followers. Each person that follows essence follows doc. Now they are posting articles about the SNL appearance, not the doc's of course, that are not even getting as many hits as the doc's. 3rdeyegirl has been doing the same to him over the past year. Not sure why they are distancing themselves from him when he posts about them and does a show about them EVERY week. The Time article @purplessence retweeted had 300 facebook likes. The link 3rdeyegirl tweeted to EW has 500. Funkenberry without the support of 3rdeye or @purplessence has 1.4K likes. Unlike EW and Time, Funkenberry is independant so that is more impressive. Note to @purplessence, @3rdeyegirl, and the Prince camp, stop dogging Funkenberry who has been mr. reliable to the Prince community. It is pathetic that boy is so broke and has crazy health issues. Also, stop having accounts hyping up a tour announcement that was not a tour announcement!

The only reason why I followed @purplessence in the first place was because Dr. FB said or implied that it is an official account. I assumed that Prince wanted to have a twitter account that is separate from @3rdEyeGirl to send out tweets regarding his own separate personal projects. Now I don't know what the hell @purplessence is.
The SNL appearance is interesting news. It is not what we expected, that's for sure. I was expecting to have tour dates and hoping that they would include a stop in Dallas, in which case I would have been emailing babysitters just as @purplessence suggested. I'm sure everyone who lives in a city that Prince has not visited for a long time was thinking the same thing. All of us can watch his SNL appearance, but we don't need babysitters for that! The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach. |
