Personally I think The Gold Standard has potential to become a minor hit atleast. It's so damn catchy and true to his princeyness, that all his hard core fan base will support it, and it's modern enough to reach out to new listeners. The hook could have been more catchy, but the feel throughout is just great. In these times where Daft Punk, Pharell etc are having big hits with disco/pop/funk-ish songs, then it's atleat possible for Prince to ride that wave a bit.

That's a tough one. The music biz is so different these days. Personally I would love to see an all out go at The Gold Standard, with a great director and plenty of $$$ for production. That could be one wild circus show of a music video. Imagine 2 Prince's in that video, one singing the sugary chorus and the other Bob George-like one doing his thing. (Think of the gemini/Joker concept in Partyman.) Of course, Prince would have to be completely on board and actually take advice from people around him who know how to make a great vid these days.

I am not sure what the value of a video generally is these days, but I can imagine a good video on this song.

Yea most likely. I wouldn't even be upset if he isn't even in the video. This song just depretly needs to be visualized. Even if WB just makes a CGI video or something animated in the vain of Interstella 5555
