My Plectrumelectrum tracklist, the album I wanted.

Wow

Pretzelbodylogic

Screwdriver Remix

Plectrumelectrum

Liveoutloud

Whitecaps

Fixurlifeup

Boytrouble

Stopthistrain

Anotherlove

Tictactoe

Marz

Funknroll

Mentrual Cycle

Screwdriver fits perfectly between Pretzel and Plectrum, the song is even segued into and out of flawless with the two surrounding tracks.

Peace

How about:

Plectrum electrum
Menstrual cycle
Anotherlove
That octopus heart song
Marz
The unexpected

Yep, I really don't like the lyrics and singing -- prince or the ladies -- on these tracks.

Yeah I like that, and considered Octopus Heart, but it was just too tame and sparse for the album imo.

The ladies did do well, personally, I did not enjoy the vocal delivery on Live Out Loud (added to album as I do like the song itself), so I was not expecting much, but they did nail it on the album tracks for sure, a pleasant surprise.

Here's my attempt:

*song not appearing on the released album

^song has a different placement on the released album

  1. WOW
  2. PRETZELBODYLOGIC
  3. AINTTURNINROUND
  4. PLECTRUMELECTRUM
  5. LIVEOUTLOUD*
  6. FIXURLIFEUP
  7. WHITECAPS^
  8. ANOTHERLOVE^
  9. TICTACTOE^
  10. MARZ^
  11. SCREWDRIVER*
  12. FUNKNROLL

I chose this order with the vinyl LP format in mind, so that side A (tracks 1-6) has a consistent, intense "rock" flow all the way through. After side A is finished, there should be a "break" as you flip the record over onto side B. Vibe-wise, there is a quite literal "flip," since side B starts with a mellow track, which prompts feelings of interest and intrigue. The listener is saying, "Wait a sec, this is different; it is another side of the band's sound." The way WHITECAPS begins, with the soft cymbal roll and the gentle tribal beat, really feels like an intro to the album's second half.

I placed ANOTHERLOVE after WHITECAPS because I think the flow would become too mellow if TICTACTOE followed directly after WHITECAPS. ANOTHERLOVE works extremely well as a "bridge" between the two so that the listener doesn't "zone out." MARZ seems like the perfect segue into SCREWDRIVER -- a natural flow. FUNKNROLL is an excellent album closer.

Aintturn and Screwdriver (Remix) end and begin on the very same note and chord, I mixed it so there is no overlap and Screwdriver now starts at the same time as the ending drum beat for Aintturnaround, at which point the ending chord of Aint and beginning chord of screwdriver meld flawlessy. Try it out if you have a mixing program.

I also started plectrum at the same time that Prince says "screw" in the altered voice at the end of the song. So the word screw hits along with the intro drums for plectrum, and exactly as the word screw and the drums end, the plectrum music starts, could not have worked out better. With the tracks mixed together like this the first half of the album sounds like one big jam session.

To me, the album suffers when it drifts from the live rock and roll feel. Boy Trouble does not fit with the vibe, nor does Stop this train and tick tack toe. They reek of Prince squeezing in newer studio tunes for older ones. So into Audacity I went and I created a version I much prefer:

Wow

Pretzelbodylogic (without intro)

Aint Turnin Around

PlectrumElectrum
White Caps

Fix Ur Life Up

Groovy Potential

Screwdriver

Another Love

Marz

Live out loud

FunknRoll

.
