Do We Have Another W&L/Kirky J. Situation Going On?

After watching that wonderfully crappy attempt at a livestream the other night and listening to AOA extensively, its become pretty obvious that Prince has found a new creative BFF, and although it kills me to say this, I honestly don't mind.

Prince's collaboration period with W&L will always be my favorite but Joshua seems to really be enthusiastic about working with P and actually seems like he may know what he's doing. I don't feel like their collaborations were completely cohesive on AOA but after hearing the clips from the livestream I'm hopeful that he can enhance the pop/groove side of Prince that has been lacking for me for a long time.

Now, if we can just find Prince a partner for his rock side..... I nominate Steven Wilson.

Great call on Steven Wilson. He's been one of my favorite musicians for the last decade. I'd also love to have Steven do all the remastering/5.1 mixes for P's catalog. He is the go-to guy for hi-end mastering and mixing these days (Grammy nominated).

The only good thing that will come from this unification is that Prince will get hands-on experience with sounds he hasn't used in a long time (if ever). But it doesn't make it better material.

A 20 something year old dude who barely knows Prince from Adam goes in and makes a sleepy but polished record with contemporary sounds on it. That ain't what Prince was about; at the very least, he could experiment in the other direction and get weirder instead of just more pedestrian.

I'm really liking the Prince/Joshua collabo. (Including those two new tracks we heard on the stream. Wow.) It's given Prince an updated sound while still sounding like, well, Prince. And maybe this is exactly what Prince needed to give him some new inspiration. Sounds like it to me!
