I agree completely. The song I think of is breathing from her never for ever album. It is something in the vocals and the arrangement and feel. This sound is also present in her hounds of love album. Could Prince have been inspired with news of Kate's recent touring. I guess I should have asked him on the Q and A on Facebook, lol.

Ya, I can see that. It made me think of Laurie Anderson, especially "O Superman" for some reason. Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

Affirmation III is indeed a bit reminiscent of Kate Bush (but also, unfortunately, brings Enigma to my mind.) [Edited 10/3/14 2:04am]

The string swells and beats remind me of Hyperballad by Bjork in certain places.

Totally agree. I thought the same whilst listening in the car yesterday and even started imagining a scenario with Kate joining Prince on stage for the song during an encore. For me it's a bit of Song of Solomon, a bit of running up that hill even.
