Who would rather see Prince playing with the NPGQ?

A lot of people are saying they prefer Prince with 3rdEyeGirl yet say that the Revelations snippet was the highlight of the stream. Pretty sure Josh said that's the NPGQ he's playing with on that track...

Whilst I'm not interested in seeing an album from the NPGQ, I really hope Prince starts using this calibre of musicians again. Blackwell makes Hannah look absolutely mediocre. The bassist was better than Ida, and Xavier on keyboards was pure class. With Prince on guitar and vocals it would still only be a 5 piece, so would still satiate the people who want a more stripped back, real Prince.

He's so limited with 3rdEyeGirl. NPGQ could rock out just as much if the track calls for it but they would allow Prince to do so much live that he just can't at the minute. Imagine This Could Be Us and Time with the NPGQ we saw on stream! Lawd. With Xavier on keys he could probably do most of AOA with a bit of re-working.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

prince is versatile, I think it should become a pattern for him to play several styles with several bands depending on the show/tour. I like the garage rock sound of 3EG but I like it a lot when he goes jazz, too, I don't see why one should exclude the other.

Sounded like a great track no doubt.

I (anyone in fact) would struggle to disagree Blackwell is a better drummer than Welton. I'd have to disagree about Ida. She really is incredible. Although granted it's hard to tell from what little the NPGQ played.

Thing is, when Prince has a Jazz band he tends to over induldge them (or himself depending on your view). Concerts loose momentum because nobody is headbanging or jumping around to a sax solo. Prince generally just struts about the stage and tries to make his vocals sound jazzy, or noodles about on the keys. They're a great aftershow party band. Do the concert then off to a small venue with the NPGQ. They're the kind of band you want to sit down with a glass of something and watch.

Surely Prince with a Jazz band is less stripped back? Than the 3EG trio.

I was at Paisley Park the night they recorded the NPGQ (TAFKA NPJAZZ). Prince came out a couple times and did a couple of guitar solos. It was awesome for me because it was something different. I would still rather see him playing with 3RDEYEGIRL. I saw Liv at the Dakota and Xavier was playing keys for her as well.

I wouldn't mind a one-off experimental album with NPGQ. Whatever keeps his musical mojo flowing is good for me.

3EG tears shit up on some bootlegs I have. I still need to see them. Hannah's drumming appears to be the weak point. But she's better than Kirky J!

No. While the Prince and NPGQ song they played sounded really, really great, and while it was a lackluster 3rdeyegirl performance, 3rdeyegirl are usually amazing live. Out of all the Prince concert videos I've seen, 3rdeyegirl's night at Montreux ranks amongst the very best (at least the performances that have leaked), and the shows I saw on Hit and Run Pt 1 & 2 were fire.

Prince has a high belief in having at least one or two flunkys on stage....Josh on the cowbell, triangle, or whatever he was playing. Andy Allo pretending to play guitar. Tony M pretending to rap. It's like some sick devotion to non-musicians.

I'd love to see him with the NPG Barbecue. Much better quality of music. 3EG can play, but those shows were limited, because it wasn't a full band. Prince never seems to find the right mix of players anymore. Even with the ultra talented Musicology band, he had to have multiple saxophone parts on Let's Go Crazy. Prince has to learn that sax parts belong where sax parts ARE...guitar parts belong where guitar parts are...but that's just the way it is with Prince.

KCOOLMUZIQ

NPGQ is the new revamped NPG band! So most likely prince has already joined. Plus he has been recording with them @ Paisley Park 4 the past few weeks. Judging from the results from "Revelation". We are already in 4 a special treat... It is just no end to the muziq pouring out of prince's body like SWEAT!!!

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I was watching Andre Gouche on youtube and he is the truth. I absolutely love Marcus too...that horn is real sweet! nod

I remember how much I absolutely loved it when Prince jammed with the New Power Trio.

Triple that! NPGQ is a great lineup of musicians. No way could he go wrong with John Blackwell. I could see those 4 musicians doing a mixture of jazz, soul, funk and rock. I also love that 'Revelations' track. Reminded me along the lines of 'Adore', but 'Revelations' holds its sound and vibe. Glad Prince let the viewers hear a bit of that track.
