Is he a Jehovah's Witness/Scientologists/or just F'n nuts? So I have always been willing to except that Princes takes certain liberties in espousing his personal beliefs when it comes to God and the hereafter, but Art Official Age is his biggest leap into the pool of spiritual confusion. There's certain we nothing in the doctrine delivered by either his lyrics or the female voice that chaperones us into this new age that is remotely similar to any teachings of Christianity or Jehovah's Witness for that matter. Certainly a message of spiritual egocentrism or omnipotencehas no part in Christianity, but insteadall spiritual fulfillment is through Christ and not through "you". His latest message is more line with the Tom Cruise version of Scientology where in our formal lives we were an alien race called the Thetons, and that we have forgotten that we were once an all powerful race that enjoyed the heights of self fulfillment and enlightenment. Now that we are shackled to this human form, the only way we can regain the knowledge of our former selves is through affirmation therapy and a type of suspended animation hypnosis. So the latest question is whether or not this ride is just another on the roller coaster of his spirituality with an unknown destination, or are the twist and turns rns the railways of a fragmented mind with a fantastic imagination?

Thetan is the scientologist term for spirit or the individual, derived from the Greek word 'Theta' or thought.
The idea you're expressing about a person having many lifetimes and formerly being possessed of god-like spiritual abilities is a belief in Scientology but is not exclusive to it and can also be found in Gnosticism and the Occult (meaning 'hidden', not 'Satanism').
I agree that Prince's sentiments on AOA are not traditionally Christian and are in conflict with the teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses. I don't see anything to suggest Prince is a Scientologist, but it has been reported that he showed some interest at some point previously.

OMG I so hope he's not a scientologist!! I'd prefer JW... But freakin' nuts sound definitively be better

I don't know what version of AOA you were listening to but I didn't get anything about a Thetan ideology or spiritual egocentrism from anything said there.. Change it one more time..

Yeah, I'm kind of scratching my head, well not really since a few things have been questionable. But as much as I love him and will guzzle the purple koolaid, my spiritual leader he could never be, never sure where he stands, a little too much all over the map, but we know he can be like that. He holds tight to somethings which I can understand so I'm not disturbed by it, if he's happy, I'm happy.

He's Prince, just roll with it

Of course Thetons aren't specifically mentioned in the song. It was just information to provide context to an idea that certain things within the song resonate with The teachings of Scientology. Specifically the idea of affirmation therapy, which is actually a name for a series of therapy sessions scienologists receive to reengage their Theton-state. Much in the same way that no names are directly mentioned in the song "The Cross", but I'm pretty sure that's about Jesus. I'm not saying he is a Scientologist, just pointing out that his spiritual message is very confusing and doesn't fall in line at all with the teachings he has said he follows.

He's a hyrbrid people, Jehovah's Witness do not believe in all the new age stuff Prince talks about in a LOT of his music. Examples, the akashic records, astral travelling, the 3rd eye, telepathy, I can go on and on. Prince is a product of metaphysics, plain and simple, which is that we are the universe, we are one, everything is everyone, everyone is everything, we are God, we are creators, thoughts are reality, etc, etc, etc. Now the religious view(s) is none of that, all of the above is external to the individual in most religions, including JW teachings. Prince might say he is a JW, but everything he talks/sings about states otherwise, minus a few things on the Rainbow Children of course.
Just an observation, I have respect for all religions, and any type of spirituality or hybridism.

You are correct. I've had direct, lengthy personal experience with Jehovah's Witnesses and know that Elders would counsel or even disfellowship (excommunicate) a baptised Witness from their congregation for openly believing in such things.
I have no negativity or bitterness towards JW's though. I'm merely stating the facts as I know them through direct experience.

Well whatever Prince is, he appears spiritually confused.

His sole "answer" in that farcical Facebook Q & A session clearly demonstrates that, whatever his religious views are, he is bat-shit crazy anyway. Wow, I am surely confused myself, I dont think he is a practicing JW anymore. The JW's I know don't involve with such things like mediation, hypnosis and chanting . Maybe that is why he is making sure he let us know by telling us what he is involve with, who knows but it's getting very creepy.

If you are as serious has he claims to be about your faith, you would not put out an entire album of new age mantras. The whole "third eye" thing is very anti Christian, and most assuredly, anti JW. He's either no long affiliated with any type of Christian religion or just doesn't know any better.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
this is just speculation, but to me religion or spirituality for him has always been a personal affair, his mind absorbs in what it wants and his religion is ultimately always a mixture of things (even from his earliest semi-spiritual songs). Its his own personal relationship with "God" unmediated by the dogmas of any church, and in this day and age, I see this as much more common than it's ever been. Change it one more time..

The third eye and various ideas concerning it, are well known in Eastern religions that existed way before Christianity. There is nothing remotely 'satanic' about it. Nor does an interest in the Occult in any way denote Satanism or devil worship, if such a thing even genuinely exists outside of the imagination of Chriastian fanatics (not even the Church of Satan regards Satan as an actual deity, but rather a symbol of rebellion). Occult merely means 'unknown' or 'hidden'.

Relax Children, Prince Rogers Nelson is a devoted witness of Jehovah who takes his dedication to JEHOVAH GOD very seriously.
Having said this....Prince is born alive, whereas many has been born dead....having said this, most people stuff themselves with dead animals on a daily basis...U KNOW : you are what you eat.
The lovely Lianne affirmations ...are in sync with life eternal in Paradise. Merely an imitation or speculation of a ressurection situation....Mr. Nelson may not indicate Prince, could very well be John. L.

Occult merely means 'unknown' or 'hidden'. While the idea of satan May not exist within Eastern religions, it certainly is a concept that Prince himself is familiar with and believes. Whether he calls him Satan, Lucifer, "The Elevator", or "Spooky Electric", he has dedicated a significant amount of on every record he's ever done to the dangers of this enemy. So why muddy the waters? Why dedicate an entire album (Rainbow Children) to be a metaphoric manifesto to the teaching of Jehovah's Witness and then steamroll that message with the Eastern, non-Christian, view of the Third Eye? These latest albums still lean heavily on his familiar theme, envoking the names of David & Saul in the track "Time", but David's book of prayer "Psalms" is anything but a message a self, or that "everything is u". As a matter of fact, "Psalms" is a book of man's total deprivation and reliance on God. God is everything. I guess it can all be dismissed because, hey, he is Prince. But for an artist who has become more and more vocal about sharing his faith, I would think he would pick a message that someone could actually following along with and not just tap their foot to the music.

There are non-"eastern" interpretations of the third eye. Richard Rohr has popularized this idea and there's nothing controversial about it IMO. Whats wrong with promoting the idea of seeing beyond terrestrial, material existence? Change it one more time..

Prince isn't a one hit wonder, so when new music comes out we always compare and contrast to his body of work, and each album has always had similar themes. Some of the new stuff we can say some sound familiar and other it's WTF?!? With this album it's like the dude has spiritual ADD
