I wish thinking of doing the same vs thread. I really like Mplsound and Dance 4 Me is my favorite song it. I think The gold Standard is also great, at the moment I would go for Dane 4 Me, the guitar solo and Camille vocal nudges it just ahead of The Gold Standard. This could change in time. Two songs that rival his funkiest ever songs.

Two of the best songs in a while? I don´t think so. Prince released many good and strong songs since he left and went back to WB. But anyway....I prefer Dance 4 Me over The Gold Standard. I prefer it musically and lyrically. Dance 4 Me sounds like a danceable, fun club banger with lyrics that match the music. The Gold Standard causes many Prince fans to shake their asses again but not my ass because the lyrics are a tad too conservative and preachy for me. It´s not that I disagree with them but they just don´t fit into that kind of beat and melody. That kind of funky music needs a little bit of nastiness or at least some physicality or sensuality, for lack of better words. But lyrics about how women should dress? I don´t know. It just doesn´t mesh well with that kind of music. I had the same problem with 1+1+1=3 on TRC. The funkiest music in a long time but the lyrics were too conservative for that kind of music. - So, yeah, Dance 4 Me wins. It´s not even really nasty, raunchy, kinky or whatever, and neither does it have to be, but it´s about a girl dancing for him and shaking her thing. And that´s fine and goes perfectly with that kind of groove. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I like'm both but if I had to choose?... I guess I would go with TGS, only because of BGs voice & the end, but dayum I love both of these songs. I hate the D4M remix though, barf!

D4M is my pick. I did a mashup/remix of it with Outcast's The Way You Move when it came out and used to private dance to that shit all the time!

like comparing "gold" to shit on rye

After listening to GS several times on quality head phones it is my choice over D4M. There is so much funkiness layered in there.

not in love with either. They are ok "nostalgia" items but both would have been bootleg fodder during the golden era.

Gold Standard - love all the musical shifts. Dance 4 Me was ok but pretty onne-dimensional. [Edited 10/6/14 12:23pm]

Dance 4 Me by a Purple mile... TGS just seems really unintersting to me but D4M is great "vintage" sounding Prince. Probably his best stab at it.

I was way into Dance 4 Me for about a year or two after its release. I probably wore it out, but it kinda falls flat for me now. I love the Gold Standard right now, but I can see it not being that big a deal to me in a few years time.

"Dance 4 Me" I do not get all the love I have been seeeing for "The Gold Standard." It seems really watered-down funk to me. It lacks groove.

The Gold Standard is missing groove, it just sounds bland. It started off good but then just got boring...
Dance 4 Me expecially the remixes are killer.

I agree 100% with you about The Gold Standard. However, I don't agree about the Dance 4 Me remixes. I thought they were AWFUL! They sounded like club mixs from 1990. I am not a fan of that kind of music though. Each to their own.

Oooohh... such a close call! At the moment I'm thinking "Gold Standard", but I think that may only be because it's still fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if in a month or two I resort back to "Dance 4 Me" Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com
Toejam's band "Cheap Fakes": http://cheapfakes.com.au, http://www.facebook.com/cheapfakes Toejam the solo artist: http://www.youtube.com/scottbignell

Both good songs.... but I'll give the edge to Dance 4 Me... because as a 'dance' track it makes me wanna ...... dance.
