DEBATE: PLECTRUMELECTRUM is the new Chaos and Disorder My impression -- two or three solid cuts, lots of meandering and filler, others picking up the slack.

I've never really understood these comparisons 2 older Prince projects. That said......C&D is better. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

I dont see much of a comparison either. C&D is a great album imo. But PE is much better overall.

Maybe you should stop comparing and moaning and just enjoy new music from Prince for what it is.
I swear Prince fans annoy me more than any other.

Why? Because he uses the Right The Wrong voice on the album? Only comparison I can hear. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

C&D is MUCH better. But I can see where you're coming from. [Edited 10/1/14 10:38am]

but C&D is a masterpiece compared to Plec.. Welcome 2 The Dawn

^^^^This. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

love both.
As much as i like to think of C&D as a straightforward rock album, it is certainly not that, more like a bunch of stuff put together with a rock attitude. Lotus and PE are more organic.
Sadly both C&D and PE have unexplicable rap segments, perhaps thats a common ground

Exactly. Plectrum Electrum is Plectrum Electrum, and Chaos and Disorder is Chaos and Disorder. Different recordings from different eras, no comparisons needed.

PE is not exactly setting the world on fire...But C&D nearly destroyed that man's career....lol....Beyond "Dinner With Delores" and "I Like It There" and maybe two other joints that album needs to be forgotten... [Edited 10/1/14 11:34am] [Edited 10/1/14 11:35am]

wow. Time seems to have been kind to C&D. Its barely an album and mainly a bunch of songs thrown together to get out of a contract and clearing out the decks for TGE. Other than I Will and Same December, I barely think of it. At the time it was hands down known as the "worst" prince album yet.
Verdict is still out on PE but at least its a more serious and cohesive set.

Had it not been for the war he was in with WB, I doubt Chaos and Disorder would have ever been released. I don't think he ever intended it to be a good album. Had things went the way he wanted with The Gold Experience, prince's career would unrecognizable compared to what we saw afterwards. The only similarities with Plectrum and chaos are that theyre more rock oriented. Other than that... completely different

Ive never in 20 of years of C&D listened to the whole thing all the way through.. unless I put it on and fell asleep. PE is something I can listen to front to back without even thinking of skipping anything, which hasn't happened in a long time. PE (to me) is lightyears more coherent and solid an album than C&D. Change it one more time..

I thought that as well until I played it a couple of years ago. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Aside from the focus on the guitar the albums are very different to me. But I can see how people would not share this sentiment.

Funnily enough I made this same comparison myself this morning on another forum I go on this morning. I feel its extremely close to Chaos & Disorder, throwaway funk rock and fun, very much like C&D. I see TicTacToe as this albums Dinner With Delores, a great little pop melody mixed in with the differrent vibe of the rest of the record.
Loving PE, not as much as Chaos but I'm in the minority here in loving it far more than AOA [Edited 10/1/14 12:21pm] [Edited 10/1/14 12:21pm] -----------------------------------------

take the good 9 tracks on PE put em with the good 3 tracks on AOA and u have a great album.

I find me liking more tracks on PE than AOA I am not sure if that is because I have already rinsed Clouds, U Know and BReakfast Cant Wait before listening to the AOA album therefore PE is fresher

These two albums have nothing in common except that they were recorded by the same artist. Chaos & Disorder was recorded to get out of his contract while PlectrumErectum was recorded to show off his new girl band.

I've only listened to Plectrum about three tiimes, but it seems to me that only Marz has the swagger of anything on C&D.

Chaos is much better. It's just NOBODY ever actually listened to it to find out. Since it came out in the days of physical cd releases, I just give it the "spots test." If the back of the cd is spotless, it has likely not been listened to. At used cd stores, the Chaos discs are spotless. The 1999, PR, SOTT usually have some scuffs on them.
Now I actually like the comparisons, as they are both rock albums. Stop This Train would've been much better with Prince on vocals...but nothing on PE can compare to Into The Light/I Will. And the first 3 tracks on C&D are hard to top...Pretzel Booty Logic anyone? Really? The live version on the horrible release party wasn't bad, but the wimpy cheerleader chant is beyond cringe-worthy, and let's face it, the song borrows a bit too heavily from "Ironman."

u mean a "real" fro or off-the-rack?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think the rock tracks on the album sound more like the rock tracks on Musicology than the rock tracks on Chaos & Disorder.

Plectrum is hands down a much better album than C&D.. Electrum has 9 solid songs on it BOB4theFUNK

That bears well for PE then because on release many were luke warm to scathing of C&D but it has only gotten more and more popular as it aged.
