This reminds me of LotusFlower/MPLS Sound. Lotus Flower was the more traditional Prince record aimed at his fans and MPLS was supposed to be more radio friendly. It ended up working for me and I consider that set to be very good.

The PE/AOA set is taking a similar approach, but his critical mistake is that it appears that he took it too far with the vocals on PE and the production on AOA.

We will get 6 great songs out of this colective effort but we won't get two great CD's. There just is no way given that we've heard a chunk of both CD's and nothing is overwhelming and some of it is underwhelming.

The Purple Rain Remaster will be targetted towards the folks stuck in the 1980's, so this is a three headed monster. I'm assuming that WB intends the PR remaster to be the crown jewel of the 3 releases, but let's hope they don't mess that up by not giving us what we want.

You know what's funny? If I played a non obsessive Prince fan who isn't pining away for a Revolution reunion "U Know" and then this "FunkNRoll" remix they would be able to seperate one from the other...I know to a lot of the folks on this site they sound the same....But it's obvious which one would get a thumbs up and which one would get you laughed out the room....

I certainly don't want a revolution reunion and U Know and Funknroll only sound the same in as much as they both sound not very good. I've liked almost everything up to this point, it's not like I'm a hater of new stuff. Fixurlifeup, RnR Affair, Screwdriver, Groovy Potential, loved loads of the new stuff. Enjoyed 20Ten and all the past albums.

I'm hoping they grow on me. U know didn't sound as terrible on the 2nd listen but still waiting for the album to listen to it more.

"U Know" is a very cool, slick Prince song...The remix to "FunkNRoll" is on some bullshit...lol

I can tell how folks take in R&B/hip-hop by the reactions to both of those songs...I think some folks need to have a better grasp of certain genres of music in order to judge one from the other...It's like thinking that all of today's rock sounds the same...

As for the other Prince joints u named? "Fixurlifeup" is a VERY mediocre exercise that sounds much better live...The original "RnR Love Affiar" is boring as shit...(I LOVE the remix though....That deserves a wide commercial release)...I like "Screwdriver"...it's a fun song and LOVE "Groovy Potential"...

I can't wait 2 get both of his new projects.

Well reading all the reviews thought was gonna be the next jughead .......I like it ,I have been less than enthusiastic about the 3EG releases ,but AOA is sounding good 2 me

Not a fan of the song in general, but this version to me is easier to listen to than the original.

After several listens, it's Prince.

I do think it's lacks something from the 1:30 to 2:37 mark. Another instrument or ??, as the song loses it's momentum during that time.

A remix could bring it...

This is why I didn't preorder AOA, I knew it was going to blow.

Now Plectrum Electrum sounds like the real deal.

That's good to hear. Did you listen to the sample before downloading? Just wondering if you had any thoughts on sample before hearing the whole thing?
