This reminds me of LotusFlower/MPLS Sound. Lotus Flower was the more traditional Prince record aimed at his fans and MPLS was supposed to be more radio friendly. It ended up working for me and I consider that set to be very good.
The PE/AOA set is taking a similar approach, but his critical mistake is that it appears that he took it too far with the vocals on PE and the production on AOA.
We will get 6 great songs out of this colective effort but we won't get two great CD's. There just is no way given that we've heard a chunk of both CD's and nothing is overwhelming and some of it is underwhelming.
The Purple Rain Remaster will be targetted towards the folks stuck in the 1980's, so this is a three headed monster. I'm assuming that WB intends the PR remaster to be the crown jewel of the 3 releases, but let's hope they don't mess that up by not giving us what we want.

That's exactly what I was hoping for when the dual release was announced, loved both of those CD's. RIP

"U Know" is a very cool, slick Prince song...The remix to "FunkNRoll" is on some bullshit...lol
I can tell how folks take in R&B/hip-hop by the reactions to both of those songs...I think some folks need to have a better grasp of certain genres of music in order to judge one from the other...It's like thinking that all of today's rock sounds the same...
As for the other Prince joints u named? "Fixurlifeup" is a VERY mediocre exercise that sounds much better live...The original "RnR Love Affiar" is boring as shit...(I LOVE the remix though....That deserves a wide commercial release)...I like "Screwdriver"...it's a fun song and LOVE "Groovy Potential"...
Good post though....

I could care less what others think of Prince's output. I can't wait 2 get both of his new projects. FOOLS multiply when WISE Men & Women are silent.

Didn't he already do this on The Black Album? It's just a remake of Dead On It. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well reading all the reviews thought was gonna be the next jughead .......I like it ,I have been less than enthusiastic about the 3EG releases ,but AOA is sounding good 2 me

Not a fan of the song in general, but this version to me is easier to listen to than the original. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

don't set yourself up for one of those 180 degree changes of opinion like the ball-sucking U Know episode with Kingsausage. Hey, now! I take my hypocrisy seriously! "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Absolutely disgraceful. Embarrassing production (what is this, dated Timbaland?!), trying way, way too hard to be young and "hip. This Post is produced, arranged, composed and performed by WetDream

Bought the preorder: After several listens, it's Prince. I do think it's lacks something from the 1:30 to 2:37 mark. Another instrument or ??, as the song loses it's momentum during that time. A remix could bring it...

This is why I didn't preorder AOA, I knew it was going to blow.
Now Plectrum Electrum sounds like the real deal.

I have only listened to the preview but to me, this is awful... Thankfully we also get the original version in Plectrumelectrum. I'll come back after I listen to the whole song a few times, but I'm not feeling this one at all...

Wondering though why no release yet on iTunes or through the WB Prince Store page (as part of the pre-order)?

After downloading from Amazon UK and after a few listens, I rather like it. Feel free to peel my scrotum for saying such a thing, but there you are.

This sucks the life and funk out of the original. I'm not very often disappointed but this is a massive let down. This will be a big blot on what what was otherwise shaping up to be a great album.

After listening to the FUNKNROLL sample, i opted to purchase Jessie Ware's newly available "Say You Love Me" from iTunes.

You mean "I COULDN'T care less"...
Could care less implies that you do care somewhat; I get the distinct feeling that you do not!

One reviewer gave it five stars. I much prefer the radio version. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Didn't they film a video for this? Wouldn't u preview that, get a bit of hype and then release. And cross all platforms? Maybe not WB's idea then. Comin str8 outta Preston...

I'm looking forward to listening to this tonight and saying how much rotten ape cock the song eats, and then two days later saying how much I dig it. I'll keep y'all posted. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"
