The Breakdown is a decent, but over hyped ballad.

Clouds is an excellent RnB song, half accessible and half deeper statement.

U Know is one of the worst "productions" he has ever released. Screams desperation and try-hard.

Plectrum Electrum:-

FixUrLifeUp is unbelievably average.

PretzalBodyLogic is cheesy, girl pop rubbish with some slightly appealing instrumentals.

FunkNRoll Is classic 80's Camille funk....minus the creativity.

Whitecaps is utterly childish and poorly written and produced.

Overall this new thread is about positivity. Please take all your negativity back to the other threads thank you

No, no. I started the thread. I welcome all points of view.

I love this!

These reviews are very entertaining.

I hope Prince always generates music to bring forth these responses.

If not, people all'd be all I love it, and that's so boring.

The positivity is all here in the entertainment!

Thank you 4 making me smile 2day!!!!

Plus sign had!

I think the point was that in general songs that one can initially find to be lacking in substance can reveal their hidden depths in subsequent plays, or at least one becomes accustomed to the asthetic elements of a song that turned one off before, and maybe even grow to appreciate them. It didn't seem like a comparison between the two songs to me, rather an example showing the process of coming to appreciate a song one doesn't like originally. But yeah, there's no contest between the two songs.

i would never compare the two songs ever. Quicksand is a masterpiece of song writing and melody and composition. You really have to listen and understand and try and decipher the messages. But as you rightly said what i was saying was that the song grew on me, on first listen i thought, what is this? as i had heard so many amazing things about it. then it hit me, it is incredible. now i know that 'u know' will never do that but it may grow a bit for people. thats all i was saying.

I was on a flight from MPLS to DC today and I listened to Clouds and U Know several times each. They're really growing on me. Perhaps it was because I had taken a shit-ton of Xanax. But whatever. I'm moderating all my pissy previous posts. For me, the jury is still out and fair for AOA. Not a fan of BCW or Breakdown (it's the lasers). PlectrumElectrum still doesn't excite me. Sorry.

i like both of them alot

of course IMHO but they actually sound interesting / he's made an effort vs. 20ten or the random releases since 2013

so = excited

IMHO - I would differ as follows:

Breakfast Can Wait = is ok, would have been an 80's b-side

The Breakdown = ok but an album track

Clouds = is great and interesting

U Know = is is awesome and interesting

Plectrum Electrum:-

FixUrLifeUp - ok on record / much better live

PretzalBodyLogic = 90's Maxi-CD single bonus track

FunkNRoll = well all i can is let's just hope on one of the 2 versions to be released something drastically good occurs to improve it

Whitecaps = sounds like a leftover from the Wendy & Lisa Planet Earth recordings

Now there's some classic .org bullshit right there. I swear some people's whole purpose here is to cry about it...a truly great Prince song usually isn't likable instantly, it takes a few listens to sneak up on you.

You dont give a fuck about ones opinion, yet you expect others to care about yours? Well maybe you dont wink

I know you might be thinking im trying to pick a bone with you. I have no problem with you, no grudge, nothing at all

This is just an obsorvating geek

You might say something funny and i might laugh right along with you. I agree some things do suck! Like that album cover
I actually laughed at much you said, not because it was funny, but how foolish and childish a so called 14 yr old .Org vet acts
You seemed to have this I have a right to be an asshole mentality because its my opinion.

I seen a pattern here. It may not be the music, site, opinions or Prince thats is the problem, I think it might just be you who has a problem.
It seems like you have a need for attention. Didn't you say This is one album i wont buy. A day later you come out and say you bought the pre order? falloff You went back to this sucks balls repeatedly in the same threads where you aleady voiced your opinion.
Trying to antagonize and provoke more responses, and guess what it worked lol Some peole still fall for it

Anywho i could have said a bit more but im not going to drag this any deeper lol

You have a right to your own opinion and change it biggrin
Personaly i thought it was cool that you fessed up and said the tracks are growning on you thumbs up!
They have actualy grown on me too. Though I still dislike pretzelbodylogic doody

Guilty as charged. I complained fiercely about the new tracks until they really got to me. The reason I created this thread was to point out that even someone who was pissy and negative about them like me could be turned by giving the music a chance. I'm not going to argue with you about this because you're right. Nobody has to care about my opinion at all. My thread was an attempt at a public apology of sorts. I deserve your flogging.

Sorry about my previous reply, thedance. I underestimated my own dickishness and overestimated the extent to which people would care that I had grown to like these songs. Your advice is good and I will keep it in mind. I should give new songs a few spins at minimum before casting judgment, and certainly before coming on here and spewing bullshit about them.

Thanks.

I earned a large degree of scorn and skepticism by my overwhelming negativity in the other threads. Even if people can't get past that, I'd like to still make a point that long-time Orgers can change their minds...or rather that the power of Prince's music change their minds for them!

I've noticed a lot of people saying the songs have grown on them. I think first impressions are rarely a good thing with someone as complex as Prince. I remember disliking "Computer Blue" the first time I heard Purple Rain! Now, it's my favorite song.

I can get with that

I won a free lp with a winning bottle cap on

a 7-up bottle...

went to the "Wherehouse"

and pickep-up "Purple Rain" Lp

brought it home

listened to every song in order

and was not impressed at all

and now I "LOVE" Computer Blue!

and the rest is history...

Maybe I'll try listening more when I'm not severely medicated. But I tell you, I was feeling some grooves. I'm not saying either song is higher than 6 or 7 out of 10 to me, but they're not the throwaway crap I thought they were. That being said, people who think these songs will help Prince connect with younger crowds are a bit delusional.

I've listened to both songs, and to me, they'll pass, but that's just me.

When I first heard U Know I immediately hated it for the autotune and turned it off. Finally played the whole thing about a week later, and as a whole, found it interesting. That's the first time I've thought that about a new Prince tune since TRC. Now I'm really diggin it.

Clouds is a new classic.

Finally getting excited for the album.

I applaud this you for making this thread. I noticed people just don't seem to give Prince music a chance after first listen these days. I remember when hearing the Purple Rain album, most of it didn't grab me at first listen. Same as Kiss, Sign 'o' the Times, Adore, and plenty of other tunes from the 80's. Now they when I hear them they sound like classics. I don't know if I any of the new songs would have quite the same impact, but I do give them a chance.

The King is a good chap, he has strong opinions from day to day and obviously does care about music, Prince and associated artists. Brownie points for reacting passionately but also evolving.

In HR, he'd be assigned the color Red for being the Action Jackson Executive type - strong views, rapid action, but not rigid. Might revisit views because they are quickly and intensely formed.

I'm the blue red type -- in almost equal doses, I'm the studious type who likes lots of details one minute, the next I want to get to the point and am frustrated by the lack of concision and people having their nose too close to the picture to really see it.

One thing I am sure about: it's going to be an interesting couple of weeks around here.
