I dont really know how the game works these days in the digital realm, but these songs that have recently been made available, are they singles that will (might) chart? If you bought the album then you automatically get these songs when they become available. So how does it work? If 10,000 people preordered the album, then the 6 singles that you automatically get will also have been sold 10,000 times. Is that correct? So even if you didnt like the song U Know, if you bought the album, your sale automatically counts towards the sales figures of U Know?

I just dont get it. It means the weaker songs can be released as singles and chart based solely on the preordered album sales. What happened to releasing the strongest songs first and using them to sell the album? Whitecaps and U Know will not really help album sales as far as I can tell, so why are they being given prereleases prior to the album dropping?

I don't think they will count as single sales, they are just pre-release bonuses, something to tie you into purchasing right now so you can hear them straight away. Otherwise there's really no good reason to pre-order any of it these days as they won't be hard to come by when released properly.

As much as I'd like some decent b-sides I don't mind pre-order downloads. It's not like we're forced to listen to them. I've only listened to Clouds once and that was only after listening to the stream of U Know and needing to know if Clouds was as terrible!

It's very difficult nowadays to differenciate a single from an album track, since every song on every album CAN b purchased individually. My take is that a single gets a single release on sites such as Amazon or iTunes, and is registered as such (as a release in itself, with a cover art of its own), while a non-single is just available as part of an album (even if it can be purchased alone).

Breakfast Can Wait, Fixurlifeup and The Breakdown were available independently so far so they definitely count as singles.

Clouds is only offered as being part of the album so it shouldn't, but since it was made available before the album's release, I guess it can be considered a single as well.

Technically every song that was sold on 3rdEyeGirl.com since the online shop opened in early 2013 counts as a single as well.

My policiy for the discography, when it comes to digital-only songs, is as such:

A song that has a solo/pre-album release and that one needs to pay for is listed as a single, no matter the context of release (online stores or 's own website).

A song that is offered as a free download is listed as a promo single.

A song that's streamed and can't be downloaded legally is considered a "stream" (something that's equivalent to a TV or a radio broadcast, but I specify the media).

Of course there r odd occurences, such as Musicology's "virtual b-sides": in my case, when I'll do 2005, they will be listed as proper singles. The monthly editions of NPGMC also promise to be a headache, I haven't decided yet but my guess is that each monthly edition will be considered a single in itself, with 3 separate entries for each for the sake of lisibility (audio single with the audio tracks, video single for the music videos and NPG Ahdio Shows).

There's no definitive answer for all this, so in the end it's a matter of interpretation, but I suppose my definition is as close as can be to what things used to be before the internet age.

What would you like to see for a video for Clouds if indeed that is a single?

I would prefer him not to be in the video at all or just in the background... and If there is a video let somebody else direct it and do the concept

I personally think he needs an infusion of ideas. I know you won't agree but I'm curious what you might like to see

I like the song but IMHO the video was lame. It doesn't mean it wasn't successful in terms of views, and maybe people liked it but I think it was pretty ridiculous and ugly, not to mention uninteresting and unoriginal. Not that the manjority of music vids r great, I watch a lot of 'em and many are just as lame no matter how great the song, but of course being a fan I'm always happier when he has a nice vid than when he doesn't ^^
