Can you name 3 albums after 1995 that are better than 3 albums before 1994?
Me:
3121 ---> better than Batman
lotusflow3r ----> better than For You
Emancipation ----> better than D&P

I agree with you on Lotus. I never listen to the For You album other than Soft and Wet.

I find it hard to determine what is "better" than what in an absolute, but according to my own personal standards at least, I do believe that Lotusflow3r is better than For You and that Emancipation is better than D&P. As for Batman and 3121, I couldn't choose really. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I'll give on Emancipation being than For You but that's it. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

3121 better than Batman? no can do on that one. Its the one out of the past 5 or so years when I go back and re-evaluate really nothing stands out to me on it. Sorta just right at or a lil' above average to me. Batman gets a lot of crap these days and a lot of people seem to hate on it but from the time I got it on tape till now when I have it on cd I really used to love and still really like that cd. I think only one song on it I constantly could skip and I can't say that about some later day albums. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Electric Chair is a phenomenal song If Prince came out with Batman now, I'd be more than happy. Great album

For me, I would choose The Rainbow Children, Lotusflower, Old Friends 4 Sale, ONA (piano and voice) and even Xpectation over a few albums that predate 1995. And I'm not even going to use the box icon! I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. [Edited 9/1/14 0:07am]

It's hard to say what's "better" but for me, I prefer Chaos over For You and Graffiti Bridge. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

I will never understand the diss about BATMAN and DP, and the love of LOTUSFLOWER, a very weak album (3 instrumentals that seem to be sampled directly from an erotic movie, 1 cover (CRIMSON AND CLOVER), a low dynamic range, DREAMER much better on live, etc.). BATMAN is a fantastic soundtrack, very tied to the movie and its spirit. DP is a very ecclectic album, lyrically and musically both album are Prince at its best. SACANDALOUS is maybe my all time favourite song. [Edited 9/1/14 3:42am]

Misleading thread title BTW? I first thought u just asked if we could name 3 albums after 1995, PERIOD, and I thought "Wow! I'll be damned if there's someone here who can't!" A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Is it really that unusual for the fans that they prefer Emancipation over D&P, for example? I'd estimate that about 50% of the fans prefer Emancipation and about 50% prefer D&P. I can't be too far off with that one. The appreciation for D&P has certainly diminished over the years.

3 albums worth mentioning are the Rainbow Children, N.E.W.S and One Night Alone
B.t.w. I have it on good authority that Emancipation has been used a form of torture on prisoners in the wars in the middle east. Detainees seemed to break very fast hearing that album. Only few managed to hold out information until the 3rd disc. But even U.S. officials stopped using the album because it had a "too severe inpact" on the long term mental health of the people.
Whenever I realy feel I've messed things up and I feel really useless than I always listen to a few tracks of that album and realise that even the best of us fuck shit up every now and then.

I can't tell you which is "better" than which. I can only tell you what I prefer. "Good", "better", "best", "bad", "worse", "worst" - all subjective.

Yep. Co-signing on 'Batman' which was an 'event' probably more than any other Prince album because it obviously had this larger context of up until that point in history, the largest grossing film of all time. I had just finished college for the summer and was bound for foreign lands on the release-day and was freaking because I wouldn't be able to have time to get the album, come home, tape it and then go on my journey. So for onl the second time, I bought an album on cassette, hit play on the coach to the ship to the new city and basically didn't stop playing it for about 7 months. That album, the movie and the singles became part of an odyssey including finding a girl who was just as into Prince and all sorts of incredible milestones with each release like the Mark Moore Batdance remix (VERY hard to get hold of), the 'Arms of Orion'/'Feel U Up' snack and the sensational Purple Party Mix on the Partyman 12" which I debuted late one night from a balcony VERY LOUD to great approval from neighbours (the track seemed to go on forever).
And long long long after it was all over, I had a rebirth of plaing it a lot after someone posted that 'Electric Chair' SNL performance on YouTube wich I had never seen. Still my absolute top Prince on TV moment.

The real question is whether or not I like Graffiti Bridge more than anything after 1995, and, while I actually like it, I'd struggle to find anything after 1995 that I like less than Graffiti Bridge other than Planet Earth and New Power Soul, and even that would be a toss-up. With that said, I like Lotusflow3r/MPLS more than I like Graffiti Bridge, The Rainbow Children more than I like The Gold Experience, Parade, or Come, and I like Emancipation more than I like For You and Come, but just barely. * I will add that this is an interesting question because it really is an analysis of songs versus concepts. For instance, there is nothing I like on The Rainbow Children more than I like "Kiss," "Girls and Boys," and "Anotherloverholnyohead," but TRC is just funkier, more consistent, and has more interesting songs than Parade for my tastes.

Ohh, I simply couldn't answer that question! To me, it's kind of like asking, "Which of your younger children do you like better than your older children?"...& I couldn't possibly prefer any post-'95 Prince albums--let alone 3--over his pre-'95 albums, because I love them ALL so very, very much...
