Anyone else here like this track with Prince & Common?

I'm going down memory lane and came across this song that I love with Common & Prince. For those of you that got Common's album back in 2002, did you like this song? Also, the outro at the end sounds like serious Minneapolis funk. Was this from a Prince song or just his own creation? I don't think it's an actual Prince song but it makes the ending of the song bad ass. Take a listen!

Wow. Must have been about 10 years since I last listened to this! I always suspected that Prince's only involvement was the outro...

I've read (where?) prince had nothing to do with the Mplsound ending, that is was all Common paying homage and that prince's keys and ketars were buried deep in the mix of the main song itself. I don't know how much of this is true, though. Anyway IIRC this mplsound ending doesn't have any guitar at all in it, does it?

The ending is composed by Questlove - Prince isn't involved in the end.

Yeah, I remember when I got this album, I must have listened to this song a thousand times. I was reading in the Youtube comments that Prince apparently played both guitar and keyboard which was news to me since I thought he was just on guitar. I assumed his only involvement was the outro but it seems that perhaps he was involved in the whole song maybe? I wonder if this meant that Prince and J. Dilla worked together on this? Wow, talk about two geniuses working to make a great track!

So, Prince is involved in the rest of the song? It's hard to tell where his part begins and ends.

I love it as well. This experimental sound and Common's flow were amazing. I love all of his work but especially this album---true poet he is for sure!

I'm not a musician but it seems like bass guitar at the end, or maybe it's a synthesizer. I can't really tell the difference.

but wasn't the ending coda recorded at PaisleyPark when Questlove asked to use the old Linn drum kit and Prince said go for it? sure i read that somewhere? so it sorta has a prince connection.

Given how unique the album cover was, I thought I spent a lot of time reading all of the liner notes and even identifying everyone on the cover--which of course included Questlove. However, I really don't remember seeing anything noted on this song that said it was Questlove. It wouldn't make sense for him to be uncredited on the song but credited for the other work that he apparently did on the album. Does any know for sure that it was Questlove on the ending? I just assumed it was Prince all this time.

Oh and whoever said Common blew up because of Prince is definitely smokin' somethin'! lol Common been done been hot! cool

There's a pic of Common and Prince in the studio (posted by during the NPGMC days--the same time this album was released), but it's just their backs.

Questlove posted so on okayplayer.com.

I'm sorry - it was such a long time ago when he used to post quite often under the name 15.

That said, Prince didn't do the 80s revolution era sounding beat.

He does play keys on the rest of the song though - although if my memory serves me correctly, he also plays something else on the track.

Can we also assume that at one point JDilla and Prince worked together? Talk about two geniuses!

No we cannot!!!

From what I understand, neither of them have ever worked with one another
