Prince's band/meshell ndegeocello would be awesome

Not sure which forum this discussion should e in but I'm sure it will find its way into the correct one. Ha Ha.

Just listening to Meshell's new album which is fantastic, deap stuff, Meshell wears her love for

Prince on her sleave and recently declared the reason she started music was when

she picked up a Prince album and read on the linear notes that Prince wrote, produced,

played all the instruments.

Meshell has toured a Prince cover band and performed a series of concerts 'Get Off' unbelievable live versions with a meshell twist to his songs.

Would'nt you think that the two would get together at some stage be it 1) Meshell as a base player.

2) Support act 3) Music writing.

Interesting to listen to Org opinions.

They DID often meet and play together and used to have mutual respect for each other but somewhere along the line they had a little falling out, didn´t they? Was it last year or the year before? As far as I know Meshell was a bit unhappy about something and voiced her opinion. There was a thread about it here on the org, maybe you can find it.

For some strange reason, the search function always makes my computer freeze and shut down, so I don´t feel like looking it up right now. wink

Now that she called prince a "house nigga" it's gonna be harder to get lol lol lol

More of those 2 working 2gether would have been wonderful indeed. Remember when prince wore that "Me'shell is cool" mirror tatoo on his cheek on French TV back in 94? Back then she was the new kid on the block and the superstar was greeting her, now she's been in da house for 20 years and she feels established enough to defy him publicly for getting back in bed with WB... Funny how time flies...

me'shell is too strong for p and too highly skilled as acomposer/singer/bassist....listen her 1995/96 performances on utube, then you will see what she did when she was 25 years old...quit similar 2

prince but of course not that mainstream like p. so i think this wouldnt work well 2gether, above all she changed her style completely in recent years.

Meshell's love for Prince isn't something new as she stated many many years ago that she loved his work...

They have worked together - Emale from Emancipation is a collaboration between Prince and Meshell.

Her Prince covers tour/show was pretty awesome - unfortunately, outside of covering the songs, she didn't really bring very much else to the songs.

eek Really? I never knew that. Does the booklet say so? I haven´t read the Emancipation booklet in a long time.

"Shiva" would be Meshell. Her then current album "Peace Beyond Passion" featured a co-write with Wendy Melvoin called "God Shiva".

Meshell is also rumored to have played bass (uncredited) on "When the Lights Go Down".

You learn something new every day...I always thought that the booklet was referring to the Indian goddess Shiva because of that red dot that Prince has on his forehead (in the booklet picture that has that LIKE A CANDLE SLOWLY BURNING writing on the wall in the background). I was wondering back then why he would refer to Shiva but now I know. Thanks! wink

Hang on - wasn't the controversy there that he had called her that first, years ago, and then she brought it up on Twitter when he signed back up with WB? A sort of pot/kettle type situation? I'm sure that's how it went down...

The same "source" for every "rumor" out there - the people who start rumors. This has been rumored since the album came out.

Oh pleeze...He's fucked with better female musicians on bass alone- Espranza Spalding, Rhonda Smith and Ida.

I love Meshell but she hasn't had a GREAT album since Bitter. Her songwriting chops have abandoned her.

And she would do anything to get in P's house.

Seriously, rumors also say the Jews plot to control the world, every muslims is a jihadist by nature, man has never walked on the moon, Bush planned the 09/11 attacks and aliens secretly control the US governments. You can start a rumor this very minute: just try it, post some believable (or even unbelievable) BS on Facebook and given that u have enough FB friends, within a month it'll be all over the web, translated in 17 languages. We can't allow "rumors" to control our lives, they are the seeds of lynching and genocide for chrissakes!

Yeah I know, doing something that's catastrophic at a high level isn't a big deal at a small one so I'm Cassandra. What people decline to understand is that everything is about the system of thoughts one adopts. If it is admissible to accept something on a casual level, it tacitely validates making it acceptable on a big level as well. Accepting to spread rumors is a position, regardless of the rumors' nature, it establishes a system where the mere idea of taking information that aren't validated by facts as truth is intellectually acceptable. I won't accept this. Ever.

So if it's not on princevault.com, it's not true?

Interesting. It's not exactly like they give specific sources for all (or even most) of their information. What "source" would satisfy you?

So if it's not on princevault.com, it's not true? Interesting. It's not exactly like they give specific sources for all (or even most) of their information. What "source" would satisfy you?

I know for a fact the guys at Princevault follow the same ethics that Per Nilsen and Uptown used to follow. I don't need them to name their sources, Per Nilsen didn't specify for every info who said what to him and we didn't care. I trust Princevault's team's seriousness and ethics. They may miss things or make mistakes every once in a while, but they're dedicated people, not rumors spreaders.

So technically I don't say that "if it's not on princevault it's not true", I say that if it's sourced and verified and someone tells them it WILL be on princevault.

I find it quite terrifying that more and more, online, people spreading fake or approximative infos are acclaimed and people trying to contest such a practice are being flamed. It happens every day on Facebook and forums. I wrote several articles on that topic, it's like people prefer fictions to facts and take full responsibility for it, and some people now post hoaxes on social networks and when the hoaxes are proven fake, they go ans claim that "it doesn't matter as it gives people food for thoughts and this will lead them to a higher truth eventually". Speading lies to find the truth... now THAT's interesting! It's so goddamn scary what the internet is doing to us in that regard: no need for ministeries of propaganda like in the good old days of totalitarism, people misinform themselves and are ready to fight for their right to doing so!!!

So now MAYBE Me'Shell played the bass on WTLGD and I don't mind people talking about it as long as they specify it's only a "rumor", as has been done here actually, but as long as no reliable source has confirmed it, i'm not buying it. It was rumored for years that prince was behing Act Of Contrition, and in the end the rumor was revealed partially true, but before it was the case I discarted it just as well. Was I wrong? I'd say no for even if I was factually wrong I was right to be cautious.

Now Hopefularranger was very clear from the beginning that they was talking about a RUMOR, so I got no problem with them wink
