SABOTAGE RECORDS 4EVER
NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine ; requests/offers to copy and links to bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced! *************************************
I know it has been discussed in various places but do any of the veterans around here know the histories of SAB, Thunderball and the other QUALITY "archivers" of some of the live material?
I dont really know how the economics work but it seems like to SAB "money don't matter" as much as what seems to be a real calling to preserve and make available some of the greatest music of the last 100 years.
I know the subject can be touchy but I really was just wondering about the guys that do it.
I heard Sweden, Germany etc, where copywrites are weak.
I know how He feels, but I count my blessings every time I load up the carousel
Who are these guys? Anybody know some stories?

I must say I'm rather curious about this as well, the stories of bootleg labels always seemed fascinating to me, but I've never been able to find anything out about the big names of Prince bootlegging, when compared to, say, the labels who put out Beatles or Led Zeppelin stuff. I realise that this kind of stuff is furtive by its very nature, but surely someone on here must know something about the operations of these places. BTW, are the old pressed labels like Sabotage still going? It seems like an operation that would have increasingly small profit margins, given that nobody has qualms about ripping their stuff to the internet, given that they're charging for stuff that isn't theirs. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

I sure loved their artwork, thick multi-page booklet, and packaging for Nagoya '89 (Lovesexy tour soundboard).

Who ever told u that those countries are/were less protected than others when it comes to copyrights? Italy was a bootlegger's heaven until the mid 90's but that was about the only developped country where bootleggers were "legit" at the time. The only boots I ever saw where bootlegs manufacturers would write their address on the back cover was Italy. Right, he had asked why I thought Sweded had lax copywrite laws.
From the link:
""In others, notably the technology called bit torrent, the organizer is not in fact distributing any copyright material. Rather, they act like a cataloguer or co-ordinator, indexing files offered for sharing rather than themselves offering any such material. The data thus shared is called metadata - that is, data about data. The system performing the indexing is called a tracker. A typical Pirate Bay file provides a filename, a location it can be downloaded from, and various checksums which can be used to verify the file's integrity when downloaded. It does not, itself, contain any media material, whether legal or otherwise."
Its a detail.
I was looking for some stuff on the the SAB guys good or bad.
they are outlaws to be sure, but SOME outlaws are pretty loveable....

So when is Sabotage releasing the 3rdEye Girl record? Stop the Prince Apologists ™

@ Pentacle. LOL! . How is it we can discuss a label devoted to "remastering live performances" but not a remix trumpeted by one of the biggest hip hop institutions that sounds better than P's original version? Its ok, player. Hate the game. . Am I allowed to say that Mr. Gat's remix of Breakfast Can Wait is superior to Prince's original? Or do we pretend it doesn't exist until one of Militant's friends decides they like it.... [Edited 7/23/14 9:51am] [Edited 7/23/14 9:51am]

It's not hard to figure out a few things about the dynamics of the community by considering this history. It's an incredible saga and maybe one day someone will write a doctorate thesis about it. A tale of music loving, passion and $.
I think so. | |
