my thinking as well regarding a joint release, but i thnk they'll stick with a Q4 release, November was planned for the 30th no? WB will need to make their fiscal year numbers but guess is it wont move from November

regarding the release date chatter, Warner does take long to release every artist project not just Princes, even worst with newer artists, development takes 3-4 years, 150-200 songs recorded with most never seeing the light of day, both artist and music.

I've spent the last decade of my life working at major record labels, the first half at warner and now at universal , and I can say this

from a marketing perspective its best to release both albums on the same date for the most impact and higher first week sales, better chance at having both the 30th re-release and new album picked up by consumers at Target, walmart , best buy and promoted simultaneously in the circulars. Same for itunes and spotify bigger marketing play.

Regarding USBS, most likely wont see the light of day as a mass release, the cost to mass produce USBs is more than a CD, little to no ROI, also Target and Walmart turn their noses up at this type of media distribution as they have not accommodated for this space in their music sections. Definitely a possibilty for USBs within a D2C (direct to consumer) package or as Warner likes to call it D2F (direct to fan) presale packages at a higher price point , definitely not included in a standard or deluxe package but something funkierrr like the plectrumelectrum top of the spectrum package lol priced at $49.99-$59.99 to include a USB, Vinyl and other cool stuff. Warner leads all label groups in D2F sales, this should be the priority, getting together a killer D2F package should be the focus. also focus should be on high quality streaming as it exceeds downloads by far.

also releases typically get bumped up earlier when the label doesnt reach its numbers for that quarter, so in some instances a q4 priority release could gets pushed up to q3 release. a difference of 3-4 months.

As a fan encourage a friend and family to follow prince on twitter, instagram and facebook, the social numbers are pretty low, also Shazam "The breakdown" and "single most amazing" purple army, the viral charts tell the story, the labels and radio programmers want to hear.
