Purple Rain 30th Anniversary released 16th JUNE??? Hi all...I love in London and have just returned from record shopping and noticed this on the wall of Fopp (UK music/film retailer linked to HMV). On their 'coming soon' posters it states that the Purple Rain 30th Anniversary has a release date of JUNE 16TH for the UK!!!

I asked for any other information from certain members of staff, but all they had was that release date and no other info at the moment. They did ask me to return and they may have more of an idea like price, number of discs etc "There is no such thing in life as normal..."

Yeeeesssssss!! Keep us updated if you find out any more. That's exciting that something is actually scheduled to come out

I will pop in again on Monday (new release date in the UK and updated details of future releases) and they should have more information as it will also be June 2nd "There is no such thing in life as normal..."

Nice I just popped on here to check if any updated PR news had appeared.
Good stuff, not long to wait... Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

probably the same songs and some b-sides, just remastered "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

Didn't the press release explicitly say that unheard, unreleased material would be included on the remaster? Considering that ELectric Intercourse suddenly got added to the setlist without explanation after not having been played for 30 years (and then suddenly dropped from it) it seems a fairly safe bet that it'll be on there. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

Fopp (and HMV) only print these posters for display when they have a concrete release date from the record company...according to the sales manager that I spoke with. So the date is looking likely, which means we may even have an official confirmed tracklist and information within days. "There is no such thing in life as normal..."

great find, brother! thanks for sharing this news. excited about this - hoping it's a nice box set and/or vinyl release, like the recent smashing pumpkins reissues.

Possible, but it looks pretty fake to me. Just the old album cover on a cheap looking sign. A third grader with an Atari 400 Computer and a printer probably could do the same. Now if it had the actual album cover with significant markings showing it as the Deluxe version, I might be swayed...
Although...it really could be the real thing, but I'm just not buying it.

Wow. Thanx 4 letting us know. Very exciting. If Electric Intercourse & Computer Blue extended are both included i'll be very happy!! What an amazing purple year it's been so far. I've been 2 9 shows & now this. Party Up!!

It's standard practice for this particular retailer (a more independant, smaller and affordable store with handwritten staff recommendations etc), they have never been incorrect so far with their 'coming soon' information posters "There is no such thing in life as normal..."

Wow...talk about not marketing a product that will sale! Thanx for the info....I'm surprised we haven't gotten a official announcement by now. June 16 is literally just weeks away.

It makes perfect sense to release it on the 16th, as I am going to be abroad and quite likely with no internet access all of that week... (exactly the same as when Musicology, 3121 and Lotusflower were released)

It seems like he's got it in for you, did you do something to Prince to bring about this apparent hostility? Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

You should go away again later in the year - we might get Plectrum Electrum then

sadly I think Plectrum Electrum is vaporware. I think once Prince got his back catalog back, he scrapped that album and is working on releasing another one. I got that impression from this podcast (speedcast):

The 16th is a Tuesday so (from that perspective, anyway) it's plausible.
I did a quick google of new releases for June and didn't see it in the US, but perhaps a re-issue doesn't count as a new release? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I always looked forward to a cd coming out on a specific scheduled day. Going to the record shop and getting it when I knew it was there was always a real treat. Or even if it wasn't in yet, I'd get all discombabulated til it came in. For many years, that didn't happen with Prince releases because they were either downloads or mail order or some other convaluted distribution method.
Who knew that it would take a re-release of an album from 30 years ago for me to get excited of doing that again.

Purple Rain 30th... anniversary... Prince 4Ever.

Well, I said it was possible. It's just that if you google it, you find nothing. So this one retailer is the first to release this info? Again, possible, but not likely in my opinion. That is less than 3 weeks away, and no words from Warners or Prince...but wait, some shop somewhere has the info!!!

That's funny...the 16th is a Monday on my calendar. Those darn Microsoft Exchange calendars!!! Always lying to me!

I think Mondays are still the normal release day for new albums in the UK, so 16th is potentially correct for us Brits. Just somewhere in the middle,

This isn't really 'some shop somewhere', Fopp is a big deal for a small retailer in both London and Manchester...they are under the umbrella of HMV and get many exclusives and fantastic deals. I didn't have time to go to the big HMV store (good connections to the major labels) in town as it's moved locations and I didn't have time, but I suspect that they also had a similar update [Edited 5/30/14 10:21am] "There is no such thing in life as normal..."
