I hadn't said anything because I don't know anything--but if someone has a clue (as the OP did)--please share it.

As to the idea that a lack of promo means anything...They just had the "Prince signed a deal and all of this is coming" announcement a month and a half ago. That was pretty hyped... it's a re-release (and such things don't seem to get all that much promo really)... just how much promotion are you guys expecting? And how long do you expect it to build? If you're gonna promote something like this, can't you just press hard for a week? I mean, I was seeing "Fallinlove2nite" ads 40 or 50 times a day it seemed. It would take a lot less than that to get anyone who is really part of the audience for this release, and since we really don't like waiting for anything anymore (and they're not creating an audience, just informing one that's already been waiting for decades), why would they drag out the campaign?

I feel it will come out on the exact date (June 16th) as the promo poster says! It's not gonna be marketed, but will sell regardless. Was the Purple Rain 20th anniversary dvd marketed? No. But it sold. So let's just chill out for a couple of weeks and watch Game of Thrones. Starting with episode #8 tomorrow night (Awww Yeah) ^_^

My thoughts, as well. Ads plastered on the side of a bus aren't gonna sell any copies of this. Simply telling the fanbase that it's out there will. It's not like the Nick Cave remasters were heavily publicized, and they were extremely extensive. I'm cautiously optimistic...

Ok guys, I returned to the store today and asked two members of staff- one in the music section and one in the general new release section...they both looked up on the system and both confirmed that 1) Prince Purple Rain 30th Anniversary Edition is on their order list from the date mentioned on the computer and 2) There is no other information- no tracklist, price, number of discs etc...I made them both turn the screen round so that I could see for myself and 3) They do not usually have all of the information for a new release until the Friday before 'new release Monday' when the stock is delievered and everything is placed into the system...I asked about others albums on the notice board and it was the same for all (see photo). Earlier in the week I was, at first, really excited about sharing a maybe (and hopefully) release date, but the negativity that followed has put me off posting any Prince related news in the future- I don't actually care about being seen as the 'man with the exclusive news' or have 'insider information' that I want to hold on to until the very last minute or alpha male any fan that normally post exclusive news first, I have been a fan since 1984 and so I've been very excited about these remasters and know that many other fans have too, so my excited post the other day was in all innocence and posted to see if others knew of this date or ease the tension of those hoping for a glimmer of information (me included) on a maybe release date. Anyway, hopefully we will have a tracklist confirmation soon and maybe a concrete press release (when Warners can be arsed) and I for one will be rushing down to Fopp to purchase on new release Monday morning...whatever date that may turn out to be

Yup, thanks for the info. Some people here feel they have a 'connection' to Prince. It's a fan site, so I get it, but you have to watch yourself. Obsession is a mental illness. My own personal feeling is that this date will go away. Fopp had the right info at the time but this is Prince so expect it to change.

But it takes a bit more than an item showing up in one store's inventory before I believe a release date. Thanks to the OP for posting, but just posting my opinion, oh wait I guess that's not allowed here.

I'd like to believe that the release date of June 16 is serious?? but WB FRANCE + FUNK-U french Mag seems not to confirm at at all this release date or another one thi summer anyway ....but in the end we will see! Fingers double crossed

I would expect there to be some build-up, really, especially considering part of the target audience for this release are readers of magazines like Mojo and Q etc., and those usually have deadlines weeks in advance. I would expect there to be some tie-in "exclusive" articles where some band members are talking to journalists etc.

My biggest fear is that if this really is coming now (and it kinda makes sense, since this would be close to the record's original release date), that there simply hasn't been enough time to make this a genuinely great collection. Unless there has been tons op preparation, but I don't really see WB spending a lot of time and effort on a release that hinges on Prince signing a contract with them. Then again, who knows...

Because I'm getting sick of the Org's mistreatment of actual news. Sure, there has to be discussion, but just look at how this fact was immediately shot down, completely ignoring that a) retailers have often been the ones to break news of upcoming releases, and b) a retailer isn't going to just put up a display for shits and giggles.

The reality is that this is a fact, a verifiable one, and should be treated as such. But because of the Org's outdated forum structure and because of the lousy attitude towards news, this either gets buried or a bunch of know-nothings invade and shit all over it.

Look at the current front page: why are there several news items, each mentioning ONE DATE of an ongoing tour? It would be far better to have topics, e.g. one about the current tour that gets updated with additional dates and each update pointing to a relevant thread; ditto for the PR anniversary release, etcetera. IMHO the homepage should inform the casual fan immediately of the current state of things in Prince-world; right now it is a mess where you simply have to figure out what is important yourself.

(Oh, and why is there still a box for an utterly failed Kickstarter for a documentary that never was gonna happen? Why was that put there in the first place?)

And I bet we would have had a state of the art website like that (and plenty more), if Prince hadn't start waging a war on his fans from 1997 onwards.
