What was the last officially recorded song that totally blew u away!?

..& i mean made you believe that there was life in the old dog yet!,you played it on repeat & if older you still play it to this day! Lets not fcus on bitchy commenst as he's done nothing decent since SOTT / TGE etc!!

For me it was 'Wow' / The unexpected. As heard at the UK gigs in Feb, the opening 'Hello'..whoo lawd!. Yes a simple R&B song BUT it just has that little bit of P magic sprinkled over it.

I like some of the songs 1996-2014.

But the last officially recorded song that "totally blew me away".. question

After some thinking it's gotta be the song: "Gold". I was really excited, in late 1995/ early 1996,

After more thinking, it could be "Future Baby Mama" in 2007, I was excited about that song as well.

Genuinely The Breakdown for me. Prince at his melancholic, man done wrong, falsetto best cool

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Colonized Mind (actually, many tracks on Lotusflower, including Boom and Dreamer), as well as a few songs from 3121 (title track, The Word, The Dance)....but really recently I keep listening again and again to that 2 min sample of Wow, which sounds extremely cool and interesting to me. Hopefully he didn't fuck that song up after those 2 mins and he delivers a scorching guitar solo. And hopefully it releases it soon.

I really loved Colonized Mind and had that song on rotation for months. But since I found out that it's just an uncredited cover of an old song from Miriam Makeba, I can't listen to it anymore.

.

Oh, and I like "Groovy Potential" very much.

'Wow'. It would be an epic opener to the 3rdeyegirl album. It's rocking but has something uniquely Prince about it. It's lyrics are almost nostaligic, which I like. But if you're talking about released songs, it's probably 'Future Soul Song' or 'Boom'.

Agreed! I guess that was the last one for me as well. And Dreamer, but that one comes dangerously close to Voodoo Chile.

Probably something from the Gold Experience.

I remeber tripping out on the horn section at the end of the track.

That wasn't too long ago, was it?

i don't know about 'blew me away', i don't think music has done that to me in over 10 years, no matter who the artist or how good the songs.

.

however, really pleased and shit happy, i've been about:

.

"reflection",

"3121",

"f.u.n.k."

"boom",

"future soul song"

.

and before that "the rainbow children" and the double amazement of "osaka/tokyo"

.

last prince song to totally floor me, in a time where music still had the ability to do that for me

was "Dolphin", which just took over my whole being and obsessed me when the video for the

song premiered on MTVnew. or whatever it was called back then.

the original was half a minute longer (more or less) and had an extra verse. It was edited down at last minute...

dark .. everything since has been muddled by poor lyric or musical choices .. dark is the last stone cold flawless classic

I do like some later songs .. such as I love you but don't trust you .. come on .. even dance with me is ... ok ... future soul song has its moments and breakdown is better than his last 20 years .. but so many good ideas are ruined by his very bad ideas .. nothing flawless since dark

imo His last truly classic song (as in something that can stand up next to his 80s peak) was When I Lay My Hands On U.

I like your answer a lot.

I haven't been blown away in a long time but one fairly recent song that comes to mind is Here. I love that song.

You made me give this another listen. I really like it, nice and simple and melancholy, sounds Joni-esque, especially 'Instead of a third dimension prisoner', love that. I'd like an album like this.

The live version of The Breakdown. The studio version with the over glossy keyboards and Star Wars Stormtroopers having a laser gun battle downgraded the song to me a bit.
