Best 'Prince and the Revolution' album?

Purple Rain: 7 votes
ATWIAD: 3 votes
Parade: 22 votes

Parade is clearly the fan's favourite but is it really a better album than Purple Rain? I beg to differ.

disbelief

I only really enjoy side 1 of PR esp.The Beautiful Ones,Computer Blue & Darling Nikki(the music, not the lyrics)
Side 2 I RARELY listen to.
I DON'T WANT TO BE NORMAL,because normal is part of the status quo, which I don't want to be a part of- Tori Amos

The most classic, hypnotic single of Prince's career, When Doves Cry; sizzling with exuberance, one of the most electric pop singles of Prince's career, I Would Die 4 U; perhaps the most staple, tried and tested, crowd pleaser for an encore, Baby I'm A Star; and the song Prince will forever be remembered for, Purple Rain. This is just one side of Purple Rain. Parade is not the best 'Prince and the Revolution' album. It is, however, most fan's favourite choice.

The BEST? Hard one there. I agree Purple Rain is one 'em. It still holds up after all these years. Plus it is one of those albums that flows. Every song is awesome. There is absolutely NO filler. Very commercial. His best attempt at rock n roll. Also VERY 80's sounding. Some of the songs haven't aged well at all (Darling Nikki, I Would Die 4 U ).

Now, as for Parade...it's definitely MY favorite. But there is a bit of filler on it. I wish I Wonder U was either longer or replaced with There's Others Here With Us. Also Do U Lie?, while being very creative, kinda bites. But it's incredible how different every song is and the album still flows incredibly well. This one also aged very well...better than Purple Rain imo. Also it has Mountains, Anotherlover, Kiss, Sometimes It Snows, and Girls & Boys...4 of their best.

So my vote? Do I really have to pick one? The Best?

I guess...it will...be...PARADE!

Whew!

Parade. The music was more eclectic, different and unpredictable than Purple Rain, which by the way, I loved for years even though it's dated.

Votes are only eligible for officially released albums credited to 'Prince and the Revolution.' Granted, Dream Factory may have surpassed the number of votes for Parade.

I totally agree with mistermaxxx. 'Purple Rain' is the greatest album ever. I think the people who say 'Parade' have simply listened to 'PR' too much!! The b-sides and other songs from this period ('Love Bizarre', The Time, Vanity 6 etc..) would make his second best album, if complied.

I agree, Purple Rain is very strong but I listened too much to it. That's why Parade gets my vote, still love that album!

Thank You..I probably listen to SOTT a lot for the same reason. But, I can appreciate that 'PR' is a better album.

If you want to get technical, 1999 is really the first "Prince and the Revolution" album. You have to look real closely at the cover and you'll see "Revolution" written backwards.

I'm surprised Parade is everyone's favorite Revolution album.
Prince himself has gone on record saying that it's the
one album he's made that he wasn't happy with, and
thought could've been a lot better.

Yeah but that has a lot to do with his pride talking knowing that he had A LOT of help on that album's direction and sound. And who cares what Prince has said about it he's more than welcome to place his OWN vote on the topic.
Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.
