So when do you think one become a 'real musician'? I'm asking because this is really about being creative being an artist I mean he had Andy Allo on stage 'with real musicians' and it seems you could do just as much or more than Andy Allo (not trying to put her down at all) but she held the guitar more than played it, and played a tamborine more than the guitar she held. . I know lots of people that can handle themselves on an instrument put aren't looking to be on stage or get a record deal. . My point originally was if a person is alive and not a robot or alien, and can play an instrument it makes them a real musician (it was being playful) but the only musicians who are not 'real musicians' are those who can't actually play and are fronting themselves publically to be when a computer may be doing the work

yeah it makes you a liar lol Sometimes I'm late for work, is accurate No not everything at face value Prince has says a lot of riddled things I know not to. Then the 'I don't look back' 'real musicians thing is a lot different Yes he should find a better way of saying it. If he is focused on the now and only emphasizing that, do you think he is working on the remasters?

it is possible to revist your past w/out being all in for nostalgia sake. I do beleive he has accomplished that..Will Smiths' ex of Hollywood exes was talkign about Mayte and the breakup.. She stated that she knows him and when he is done , he is done..there really is no rear view mirror..So, i think he doesnt want to be held captive by the past; i get that

Prince has ALWAYS contradicted himself! You can't believe a word he says. I wish he would keep his mouth shut, like he did in the 80s, and just speak through his music. TRUE BLUE

The bottom line is that Prince is full of sh!t. I love his music but he really needs to stop with all that mumble jumble crap. He needs a website so he can release music (singles, albums, whatever) whenever he wants and stop all that talkin'.

it's funny how we've 'got nothing better in our lives', because we like to talk about his past - which isn't even completely unrelated to the 'now', since he's releasing a PR remaster this year - yet he's in the studio at paisley park with Bobby Z and Taja Sevelle (and probably Elisa wasn't far away either), walking along a corridor that literally has a timeline of his carreer in pictures and awards

The names change but the game stays the same. That reads an awful lot like the 3121 articles. Which themselves reads a lot like the Graffiti Bridge era Rolling Stone article or maybe it was Details magazine back then. Either way Prince is sooo busy, and he's surrounded by yes men. 3rdEyeGirl is referenced the same way The Game Boyz and NPG was back in the day. The Finding Nemo thing though is unsettling. To think adults, with no kids, are making rock music while watching Disney cartoons, is weird in a bad way. Like the story of Micheal Jackson carrying around a baby doll because he had no kids. Very WTF-ish. It could be a lot worse. Like Whitney Houston or Rick James worse, but still. I'm sure no one there actually wants to watch that fucking cartoon, but they KNOW, if they admit it, they are azz out. I'd bet the ass-kissing competition around Prince breeds some pretty intense competition. It's human nature. Some of those folks don't like each other, but they can't let Prince see it. "Who wants to watch Nemo, again?" "Ooh, I do, Prince, I totally do!" Can you imagine reporting for work, knowing the boss is going to make you watch FINDING FUCKIN NEMO and you have to pretend to be cool with it. He couldn't pay me enough to put up with that shit. "Hey, let's watch Nemo in our pajamas and play Monopoly!" "Yeah, let's get some milk and cookies." At some point Prince is going to pass out binkies and have everyone fitted for diapers. Can you imagine how two-faced these folks have to be to put up with Prince's shit? It just occurred to me, but everybody working for Prince has to be some slick MF's. They absolutely haaave to be.

idek what to say anymore. it's like i wanna contribute to the convo but i have so much to say and don't know how to say it. lol. the Harts guy is cool. i need to hear an album and see him live. definitely a young Prince.
real music by real musicians i think means people singing and playing live...really well. something that is definitely missing in today's world.
idk how to feel about anything that comes out his mouth that i can't play in iTunes. some stuff is good smart and insightful...even sometimes funny. but most times he talks "a bunch of shit nobody wants to hear". i love the guy but i miss when he didn't give interviews.
all in all i just want Plectrum Electrum and a full scale US tour where he plays mostly new material. i don't want anymore watered down MPLSound, light jazz-funk bullshit or chipmunk voices.

He is not paying you or forcing you to pay attention to him. For all we know he has had everybody and their mama going on about Purple Rain this month. He just wants to move forward and their is nothing wrong with that if he went out on a PR reunion tour he would get trashed by most of the oh so talented and wise orgers as being a nostaglia act. He cannot win for losing with some of you.
Would love to see some of you get off the Purple boat and let the rest of us enjoy the remasters and the new music without the bitching and snarking.

What I find really odd is that Prince, once again, says how little point he sees in looking back...yet that's all he's doing; back with WB, complainng about the deal that ended almost 20 years ago (a time longer than the deals themselves actually lasted),Purple Rain remasters, trying to revisit his early/old rough sound, "30 years ago this was the sound" intro to When Doves Cry on recent tours, greatest hit tours...I don't get it [Edited 6/28/14 0:59am] P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

Even these interviews have become predictable. Last minute call to journalist to come hear Prince's new album. They describe the incredible atmosphere. There's praise for Prince's extraordinary talents or something like: hey, he's actually human and has a great sense of humor. Who knew? There's always a description of what Prince is wearing. Prince never walks into... but magically appears in the room...... cue talk of new project, radio, record labels, mention of real musicians. There's no confirmed tour or album release date. Radio doesn't play Prince's new songs...... where did Prince go? Oh, it's getting late, guess it's time to leave.

And there are many, many artists out there that can sing and play brilliantly, but does Prince know about them? All Prince ever talks about is the music he dislikes. He knows fuck all about music that isn't in the commercial mainstream. Anyway there is much more to music than technical abilities and proficiency. Some of the most vital music ever recorded has been a rejection of musicianship. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

True. I am being snarky, but, I'm probably right. That article gives me no hope. That article could have been written in 1990. It feels like I've read it a dozen times before. Obviously, the writer was brought into a staged scenario, and lied to incessantly, because that's what Prince does to the press. Clearly, Jon Bream let Prince down, by not, ya know, throwing away his entire damn career by writing word for word Prince's ridiculous attack on IHeartRadio and Clear Channel. “What I’m saying is really basic,” he said. “I don’t know how you could misunderstand it. Clear Channel owns all the radio. Someone is making the playlist for all the stations across the country, and it’s all corporately owned." Yeah NoShitSherlock! How much investigation did you have to do to determine that? Prince didn't know the entire radio business collapsed, like 10 years ago? Everybody knows that. Clear Channel consolidated the pieces, they have a virtual monopoly, regulators know it, but allow it because shit otherwise there would be no radio. There is this thing that's got everybody's attention. It's called THE INTERNET. That's where everybody is. If you want to be on the radio, then you have to pay the price to support that industry. Yeah they are playing hardball, but then again, if they didn't, they would be out of business. I think it's almost precious that Prince is summoning the Press, to do his dirty work for him. It's not 1985! You can't hide behind journalists anymore when you wnat to be controversial. They're like, "Shiiit that's what TWITTER is for". But Prince calls the press. They get out there and he wants to announce the most obvious shit. I picture him as a rich old while lady from the 1920's: "Quickly, quickly jot this down. I vant it in the evening editions. Someone is making playlists for every radio station across the country. I tell you I won't stand for it..." Then, should shit hit the fan, he can holler MISQUOTE. BTW, did anyone else notice he let her use a notepad to write things down? HAHA. Prince is tired of having to call multiple people out. This time they get a pad and pencil, lol. I'm really disappointed that he hasn't worked through these issues yet. The way, I see it Prince had a couple of paths he could have taken this year that would have yielded better returns for us. He could have done a throwback album and tour with his most popular band members and protoges. He could have lifted his profile in a new and exciting way by grabbing his guitar and guesting on every relevant acts' record that was willing to have him. Or he could do the same old thing he always does: Stay up late doing goofy shit, at all hours of the night producing, retread versions of his worst ideas that didn't sell, the first time around, and blaming CORPORATIONS for his problems. Prince has been stuck in that rut for a long time. This article is the same old story. Actually, I'm really disappointed he's didn't try something new.

these threads are hilarious. i say he stop talking altogether and just put out the music. cause every time this man speaks, chaos ensues. i just want new music...good new music idc about a remaster unless it includes outtakes in great quality or stuff i don't already have.
2014 is almost over and still no 3rdeyegirl project? he says one thing and does another. complained about only being able to put out one album a year...now he can't give us a product in 5 years

I'm in a similar situation myself. I play piano, guitar, drums, and futz around with music software. I'm not a PROFESSIONAL musician, but a "real musician" nonetheless. Just because I don't make money at it(yet), doesn't mean I'm not. Don't sell yourself short.

Prince is a hipocrite. He didn't have any problems with anniversaries when he preformed with beyonce during the 20 anniversary...oh,but wait, that's when he was promoting and tying PR 20 anniversary in with musicology to promote his tour so it's alright to reminisce when theres money to be made, otherwise we all just don't have lives.Prince is out of touch and says things just because he thinks he sounds clever and mysterious.
