Prince's looks -> have you ever tried them out on yourself? Time for a cringefest thread. Now, I know there are a lot of fans on here that have been fans for a long long time....have you ever seen Prince wear something and thought "damn! thats the look for me!" and legit tried it out on yourself?
I'm gonna own up right away, I have. I tried to do the Elephants and Flowers makeup once:

Sorry for the derpy photo, I'm a bit loopy at times lol.
I also tried to do the hair he had round abouts the Rave era where he put his hair into lots of little pigtails. Didn't work out though, my hair is too long.
Spill guys! I'm anticipating!

I tried to do the Purple Rain look. One day I saw my mom wearing a white ruffled blouse and her purple trenchcoat. She didnt even know she was dressing like Prince. Im a girl and I thought it would be cool because his wardrobe in that era was already kind of feminine. I went out and bought a white ruffled shirt because I couldnt find a blouse and I borrowed my moms purple trenchcoat. I got home and tried everything on all together...high heels and all and I looked terrible. I ended up returning the shirt and gave up on the look. The only thing that looked decent was my naturally curly hair. I spent hours looking at my PR vinyl trying to perfect the hair and it paid off. But the clothes were terrible.
The brightside was that my mom let me have her purple trenchcoat which was almost identical to the one he wore in PR. I'll put it to use one of these days. [Edited 6/9/14 18:19pm] This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

After I saw PR, I was dying to get a jacket with the buttons and silver chains attached to the shoulder(the Beautiful Ones jacket). I think that I ended up taking some of my mom's necklaces and pinning them to my Members Only windbreaker. Ha ha, wow, now I'm remembering a lip sync that my friends and I performed in high school. We did America and I had my gf's black trench on as I was "playing" Brown Mark. To this day, my mom tells everybody that she couldn't believe I went to high school in my "bathrobe"! I keep telling her, "Mom, that wasn't a bathrobe, it was a TRENCHCOAT!!" Ah memories..GREAT THREAD!

I put in make-up and high heels once as a child. My dad slapped me and called me Susan.

The closest I ever came to that perilous aesthetic enterprise was getting a perm back in 84, 85 and sort of letting some of it fall on one side over the eye -- not full Revolution mind you, sort of a timid evocation of the look. Then I came back to my senses and spent the rest of my life wearing buzz cuts.

At least you did not get the Rave tight jumpsuit. There is still hope for you after all.

Yes, I have. I've worn the fingerless gloves, lace tights, long hair curled, high heels, and I've dressed like his proteges, too. This was back in the day.

I always wanted a trenchcoat with those nails on one side, but never got around to actually buying one. Same goes for the ruffled shirt... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

On one of the first occasions when I had gotten drunk, I was 16 at the time, I woke up from the floor in the morning and when I looked in the mirror I discovered I had written "SLAVE" and drawn the moustache he had in the mid-90s on my face with marker. It took ages to scrub that shit off.

Haha that sounds like something I would do drunk!
I love his jump suit from the Rave era!

Ahh thats so cool! I love the mash up between parade and partyman Yeah, Hiragana can be a bit confusing to copy. Prince seemed to really like having Japanese on his clothes during that time era. He had stuff like 'love' etc written in Katakana on his clothes during the nude tour. My inner weeaboo is showing. I'll stop now.

thanks 4 the mental images every1, lol. in highschool i wore some symbol jewelry, and would try to imitate princes and maytes facial expressions in the mirror. speaking of cringe, once i invited some relatives over to witness a dance routine i had worked on for p control -- i was singin it too, tsk. i also thought it would be cool to do the elephants and flowers makeup. mainly wanted to sound as cool as him though, though his clothing is inspiring too. flowing through the veins of the tree of life...purplemaplesyrup

I once did my makeup like Maytes and had my fringe cut like hers. (You know the weird V fringe?). Also, the dance thing. I know like half of the tick tick bang dance.

Yeah its one of the few things I think someone could pull off if their style is right.
His whole look at that time thought was pretty awesome, even the clothes. That heliconia floral outfit was pretty cool.
