Considering we know plenty about how the album was compiled, and how WDC was recorded mere weeks before its release, that "100 songs" things indeed looks utterly unbelievable. I'd find it very hard to believe that Prince had recorded 100 unreleased songs by then.
If we are taking this info from a movie director, than it can't really be trusted, can it? But to suggest Prince did not have 100 unreleased songs by 1983 is crazy.
First, we all know there are leaked songs, and then songs that never leaked, or songs that Prince demoed, and never decided to put on those tapes that did leak.
One look at the tracklists of Work It 2.0 from 1976-1983 would be one way to count the unreleased tracks...and we can discount alternate versions and instrumentals, and whatever that number is (I'm too lazy to try to figure that out.), we can take that number and assume that many more tracks were simply not leaked. So I would say it is very likely that over 100 Prince unreleased songs exist.
Now, I would doubt there were 100 songs recorded from 1982-1983, but Prince was very prolific, so that's even possible, but if that is the case, we probably have already heard most of the good tracks in some form.
It's clearly a round and suspicious number -- doesn't distract from the fact Prince had plenty of songs for the movie, whether it was 30 or 100. Chances of some unreleased PR songs? Pretty good, bu not necessarily stuff you'll like. There was generally a reason why he discarded stuff, either because he felt it was too personal or not good enough. |

Just read the Susan Rogers interview posted here, and it looks like Wonderful Ass was created for the movie as well. |
