unreleased music we have never heard from purple rain ?

with the release of the deluxe purple rain album sometime this year...does anyone think there is any chance he may include tracks that have never been leaked or even heard of ?..i dont know if this is even possible but i suppose with someone like prince ..you never know..as much as i am looking forward to hearing pristine versions of electric intercourse...unheard tracks would be really something to look forward to. biggrin

"Love & Sex" is unheard by most... This title was thrown out there by NPGMC around the time of the anniversary DVD release of "Purple Rain"...

I doubt that.In an interview with Uptown magazine Bobby Z. said that there aren´t really that many songs from that time period, other than the ones we already know.

I know he has to have at least 3 tracks we have never heard from that era so maybe he will, maybe he wont.

I doubt there are many great tracks out there that we have not heard. Maybe one or two from each era at most. It seems that the songs he was most proud of found there way out to us some way or another. Still, this is a man who left the original Old Friends on the shelf, and couldn't wait to release Jughead/Daddy Pop/Hot Summer, etc... So we can always speculate about this vault filled with great songs that he didn't want to release.

Obviously I'd like unreleased songs, but what I would really love is a 30th anniversary edition of the film with cut scenes included, like the warehouse fight and barn scene! It's just so frustrating they're shown in the trailer but not as part of the film.

Yeah..i would have liked to see the warehouse fight. Barn scene would have been nice too. Also im tired of wondering what difference the movie would make with those scenes added in.

I think the "100 songs submitted for Purple Rain" story is somewhat of a myth.If it were true,by now we would either have a list of those songs (via Uptown/Per Nilsen),or we would actually have many of those songs (via bootlegs) wink I don't doubt that there are some songs from that era that we have never heard, but I bet there aren't many.

It would be nice to see, but it's likely that the unused film footage was destroyed after the final cut of the movie was finished. Purple Rain was filmed before DVDs, so it really wasn't common for filmmakers to hold on to deleted footage. No one was thinking about what might be added as bonus material for a DVD release back then. Prince hmself probably ordered that the unused footage be destroyed. He's known for doing the same after photo shoots.

Whetever the time period there's a lot of unheard material since prince has been in a continuous recording process since 1980. We know hundreds of uncirculating songs by name and it's very likely that there r even more that evaded Nilsen's research. There may not be too many songs directly related to the PR project but songs from 1983 and early 1984, yes, plenty.

I think it's absolutely necessary that each remaster include material that's not already circulating besides circulating material in pristine quality, so prince better check out what's already out there and what's not. It would obviously b a disappointment 4 fans to get nothing totally new.

Has "Wednesday" been circulated as a bootleg? I've never heard it and it was included on an early sequence of the Purple Rain album.

On an unrelated note I'm Listening to "Flying" off the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album right now and it's reminding me of Poor Goo.

There are no known leaks of this track. From what I remember, somebody just talked about it at one point.

You'll be surprised when you hear the song since a rehearsal version of Prince on the piano has been circulating on various boots for more than 20 years, albeit it was (and still isn't) titled as "Wednesday" simply because nobody in the boot scene knows it...

Considering we know plenty about how the album was compiled, and how WDC was recorded mere weeks before its release, that "100 songs" things indeed looks utterly unbelievable. I'd find it very hard to believe that Prince had recorded 100 unreleased songs by then.

Not sure I understand what you mean. It's listed as "Wednesday" on "Purple Rush 2" and "Intimate Moments Revisited", for example.

No,"Wednesday" is a song that was for Jill Jones to sing in the film.Footage was shot of her sitting at a piano, singing the song to herself, assuming that nobody is watching. The Kid walks in and sees this.

Well the 100 submitted are released and unreleased correct?

I wonder if those songs were also song made during that period but not exactly for any PR projects.

Technically he had a complete Vanity 6 album completed

I can list a few that I know of from that period:

Wednesday[What Will I Do?]

Traffic Jam, Cocaine & Coffee, Roadhouse Garden, Our Destiny,

Susie Lovelace(BrownMark) Chocolate, All Day All Night

Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, G-Spot, Electric Intercourse, Possessed, the Beautiful Ones, God-the Love Theme, Fathers Song, Computer Blue, Darling Nikki, When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm a Star

.

Erotic City, [God-the Dance Electric, Another Lonely Christmas, Dance Electric]

.

Modernaire

.

Sugar Walls

17 Days, Sex Shooter, Manic Monday, Blue Limousine, A Million Miles, Vibrator,

Happy Birthday Mr Christian, Ooh She Wa Wa, Some Kind of Lover, In A Spanish Villa

.

If the Kid Can't Make U Come, Jungle Love, the Bird, Chili Sauce

Ice Cream Castles, My Drawers, [Tricky]

.

The Belle of St Mark, Noon Rendezvous, Next Time Wipe the Lipstick, the Glamorous Life, Olivers House, Shortberry Strawcake, [2 Sexy]

.

I know some of these songs like God/Dance Electric were made after the movie/albums

I can easily see him doing more, or songs that were reworked and put on other albums later?

Unfinished pieces or instrumental pieces that were used as score music?

From what I understood it still wasn't known, but it seems I'm wrong... Never mind my comment on it then...

If we are taking this info from a movie director, than it can't really be trusted, can it? But to suggest Prince did not have 100 unreleased songs by 1983 is crazy.

First, we all know there are leaked songs, and then songs that never leaked, or songs that Prince demoed, and never decided to put on those tapes that did leak.

One look at the tracklists of Work It 2.0 from 1976-1983 would be one way to count the unreleased tracks...and we can discount alternate versions and instrumentals, and whatever that number is (I'm too lazy to try to figure that out.), we can take that number and assume that many more tracks were simply not leaked. So I would say it is very likely that over 100 Prince unreleased songs exist.

Now, I would doubt there were 100 songs recorded from 1982-1983, but Prince was very prolific, so that's even possible, but if that is the case, we probably have already heard most of the good tracks in some form.
