All 5 B-Sides could fit onto the disc with the remastered album.

Another Disc for Remixes / Outtakes

Another Dis with either tracks from other artists in the film (The Time, Appolonia 6, Dez), or preferably a Live disc.

I still wonder what it was that caused Fopp to put this on their Coming Soon laminate for the 16th but anyhoo. If this is truly going to get the full marketing, multi-disc set and vinyl etc then later in the year makes more sense. I still would have snapped up a quickly released 2CD job though lol I guess we will see... cool

Oh please not this The Time/A6/Dez craziness again, please leave those outta this for the 100th time! It would be such a waste of precious space unless we get a 10 CD's set!

It seems indeed that no DVD will be attached to it but who knows, with almost 6 months between now and the release, many things could change. Audio live is always a possibility on the other hand. The audio from the 3 live music videos would be a strict minimum. Syracuse in audio would be 2 CD's not 1, and there's always the August 1983 show that's become a cult classic among fans (IDK whether the video can be restored enough for a video release but the audio is definitely there).

3 CD's sounds incredibly cheap to me anyway. Really. That's not a "deluxe box set", more of a cheap thrill.

Whoever would buy the single CD would probably buy the triple one just as much anyway.

If they really want a deluxe product to treat us fans alongside the cheaper reissue for casual listeners, they need to deliver waaay more than that and they can go wild since we'll spend whatever money it takes to buy it anyway.

Question for Big Chick: Do u think that Prince and WB will give 2 Purple rain reissue a special box treatment with lot of demos and outtakes from this era + goodies in the style of ARCHTUNG BABY SUPER DELUXE U2 ALBUM? Thanx 4 the reply

From what I was told there will will be up to 3 version of it.One being just the album remastered, the other being a deluxe multiple disc set and the other being a 180gram purple vinyl issue of the album with the cd's that are in the deluxe edition set in a box set with a linear notes book and some memrobilia. No word on the inclusion of dvd material. I wish it was packaged like that beautiful "Achtung Baby" set.

Big Chick

Maybe the highlighted version is the one being released the 14th of June, and the other versions following in November? Does make (some kind of) sense...

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Agreed with that totally. The first disc should be the album with no additional tracks after that. The Time, A6, Dez material shouldnt be included at all. I shouldn't of said 3 discs and should've just left it at multiple discs. The inclusion of Syracuse would be a Colosial waste of space. I really hope they dont include live material(esp from the tour).Plus even though it's proshot it's one of the most boring(Imho) PR shows. I wouldn't neccesarily say that the Deal between Prince & WB is only for AUDIO & not VIDEO! I could see the movie being reissued and syracuase making it's debut on Dvd. Same company but 2 separate divisions. It's to early to tell and liike I said its all being worked on now. I really doubt the 8/83 performance would be included on DVD. Nor would I think that the Purple Rain deleted scenes would appear on DVD/Blu

First off, that would've been announced by various retail outlets by now. The 16th is only 14 days away and Amazon doesn't even have a listing for it yet/ Nor does anyone else except Fobb. Plus that would be a confusing release to the general public due to the fact that would they believe they have the whole set without knowing the other release options.. Like I said this is a very strategic release with alot of promotion behind. This will not be a half ass release from that standpoint.

I only said that the B-Sides could be included with the original album as that's how I have seen it done with some recent remaster box sets, like Nirvana. Nirvana also issued different versions (Super Deluxe, Deluxe, Single Disc), and the single disc version included B-Sides.

[Edited 6/2/14 3:10am]

First off the Glasgow based Fopp music chain has only 9 locations which does not necessarily make it a powerhouse retail chain and a go to chain for breaking information. If you call the ever reliable Amobea records in L.A. or SF, they'll tell you they have no information on the release other than the fact that it is slated to come out this year. I'm sure Fopp's intention was sincere and quite possibly they obtained some false information. As for sending fans into a frenzy, had the OP (an orger) never had posted the flyer/homemade poster and info he saw and we wouldn't even be talking about Fopp and June 16th. Their intention was never to send fans into a frenzy but to be informative on the release based on what they knew. Working Music retail in purchasing for a very large now defunct company, being solicited for future releases months ahead of time is the norm. Information on upcoming albums with tenative cover art and tracklistings is quite common a few months before it's release. Especially with Warner Bros. releases (who imo did it the best). A record store with 9 retail location has no idea of Prince.org and probably could careless. They are simply trying to promote and sell a product.June 16th is actually my Birthday, so of course I would love to have it on that day.

[Edited 6/2/14 5:21am]

That still doesn't explain why its a June 16th date. Unless they're releasing the Purple Rain remastered single disk only. Which would make more sense. But to me take away from the project U revealed.

Even though this news is GREAT to me. I'm a person that speaks my mind & don't really care what other people think on here or anywhere else. I feel U shouldn't have given this info out & kept it to yourself. It may sabotage what the WB has planned, since they have been VERY mum on the Purple Rain project and it also may piss Prince off. Who is very protective of his future plans and projects. But thanks for answering my question..

Big Chick

I enjoy listening 2 the Syracuse show but I totally agree that it's prince's most boring live video release when it comes to watching it. Still, it's part of prince's canonical discography and therefore deserves to be remastered and rereleased eventually IMHO. My info that there won't be any video comes from the French music mag guy: his contacts at WB France told him that the release would be audio only but that was 3 weeks ago and things can change, but that's the info we have so far. It was not stated as being a question of legal rights or deal BTW, just that it was decided this way.

The thing with live material is that prince has a vault full of audio recordings and some pro-shot recordings at least for that early era (still unsure if everything has been pro-shot after 88 or not), so of course it's tempting to ask for live material. It doesn't necessarly have to be part of the PR package but Syracuse AND the 1983 show need to be released eventually because of their historical importance IMHO. But the same way I think material from Ice Cream Castle and Apollonia 6 don't belong on PR because they belong to these album's own remasters, maybe the Syracuse show deserves a separate release as the separate video album it was, and that could be another deluxe box set for fans that'd contain other live shows from the era. I know I'm dreaming but I'm dreaming of a proper archives collection for my favorite artist and it's not so delusional in the end, the main issue here just being that the artist in question is one who showed nothing but disregard to his back catalogue so far. But I can't help hoping the main reason behind this, behind all the "past is the past" BS, was that he didn't own the most vcaluable part of said catalogue.

My assumption is that FOPP wanted to break the release date before Warners and Prince. Not sure why. Maybe the retailer is trying to get notice from TMZ or whatever the European version of TMZ is, and get all the attention that breaking this release date will get...

Actually, this release date matters to us diehards here, and us only. The majority of those that purchase it aren't going to be gathering outside their local FOPP with their blankets, tents, and tailgating tables counting down the minutes until the Purple Rain remaster.

Since it does matter to us, it simply seems funny that some chain in Europe is the only mention of this. The American company handling it is saying nothing, as well as the American artist involved.

Why FOPP would do this? I have no clue. But as 6-16 gets closer, this date looks wrong.

As far as the other poster saying that the orginal poster is never wrong?

Sure, FOPP may be the best source of Prince release dates, but I'd bet that they are wrong this time.

Why would anyone want this to be false, or prove someone wrong? What is it with certain org members wanting to be responsible for the breaking news, or thinking their inside source is more reliable than a genuine established UK CD retailer. IF it proves incorrect it won't be because Fopp did not genuinely have this on a release schedule for the 16th. Sheesh. It certainly isn't "fake" news. FFS enough with the silliness. If it turns out to be later in the year it won't validate any of you. "I was right, nyer, nyer" smug self-righteous attitudes KCOOL - no one takes anything you say seriously (mr fake piano hands) love2thenines2003 - no one is listening to you, you have been been trying to provide scoops and release dates from unnamed equally unreliable sources for many years now. Never has one of them been borne out. Enough! [Edited 5/31/14 9:25am]

I want it to be true more than anybody here, but I have to also be honest. If Prince is saying nothing, and Warners is saying nothing, and all we have to go on is a very cheap looking poster in a retailer, I will be skeptical. I hope somebody can put a post on here with info saying the thing has already been released....but if the evidence presented looks weak, it looks weak. I hope FOPP is right, and I have this on June 16th....and I'll be the first to thank the Original Poster....

but in Prince world, there have been way too many "absolutely confirmed" release dates that have been wrong again and again.

well i think I can wait another few months, Im used to it now when It comes to Prince biggrin but lots of things could happen during the next couple of months, he could change his mind again and the deal with wb could end. Therefore I was so glad when I saw a possible release date so soon cuz now nothing could go wrong. Well let's hope we get the PR remasters and new album in November, in the meantime I hope Prince keeps releasing singles razz

I always appreciate fans efforts in sharing information whether it be news related or concert reports. In light of reading this thread, I deceided to reach out to a some what high up executive at Warners(US) that I have known since 1990. All of the information this person has shared with me throughout the years has always wound up being true, even if some of the projects never saw the light of day. He's given me a fair wealth of promo inhouse x-reference cassettes that never saw the light of day but were submitted for consideration. I really didnt want to bug him with this question but this is what he told me via email last night. The 30th anniv. reissue of "Purple Rain" is still being worked on and it is not finished as product. They are close with the final sequence of songs but there are working on the packaging and what they want to include in the deluxe set. The targeted release dates are either the third or fourth week of November. Either being November 18th or 25th. There will be a huge promotional and marketing campaign for this release. Also the new as yet untitled Prince album will be released the same day as well. In fact the new Prince album hasn't even been submitted yet but a early version has been played for some executives and marketing employees. No news on the 3rd Eye Girl album. I've always been truthful and as accurate with what I post on this site. I really don't post alot on here being for the most part the majority of the posts and how people treat each other on here I find quite disgusting. There's a least a few people on here that I speak to in private that post on this site regularly that will tell you that I'm pretty accurate with my information and knowledge.

I would love for this release to come out this summer as much as anyone but I'm more relieved that they are taking their time to ensure the best possible product for this title.

Peace Big Chick

Actually through marketing studies people are more inclined to pick up a new release album by an artist the same day a classic reissue has been released. The nostalgia and passion sets in buying the classic album with the hopes that the new album will also bring that nostalgic & feeling of the classic release. It's a completly different industry now and this tactic would never work in the 80's and 90's but its geared to todays record buying public. I'm not referring to the die-hards that buy every release on streetdate. Even though we are the most vocal. We are actually the minority when it comes it in the overall sales of albums. Unfortunately, the record companies have to dumb the marketing down to the almost low common denomintaor to achieve the maximum sales of albums. If a new Prince album was released a month before or after the reissue it would probably sales wise it wopuld fair close to "Planet Earth" using that as a recent a example. Prince's new albums for the past decade have not been commercially relevant ( with the exception of "3121" due to the strong marketing and choice of singles and videos that supported those tracks. Universal made a solid effort with the album and tried to craft a bonafide hit. Had it not been for the concert ticket sales counting towards the sale of "Musicology"( one of the rerasons I respect Prince as a forward thinking innovator) that album would not fared well at all retail wise.

I highly doubt the store manager, (who undoubtedly has to approve advertising, especially from a major label) has ever had the 'die hards' on his mind at all, much less to pull a stunt to 'send them into a frenzy'.

A possibility, but do they even release singles discs anymore?

I'd say there's a bootleg release they got taken buy, but they don't sound like that kind of store.

Maybe a store manager is some Prince fan that reads gossip on Prince message boards, and thought he got reliable info, then ran with it and made the poster. They wouldn't have been the only chain store to announcea date if it was floating around. Plenty of indie stores keep release date lists on their websites.

.

I'd fully expect reviewers to get access to the recordings, and the release to get listed in all the proper databases well in advance, and probably pre-sales.
