I doubt we will see this released in july or july, though it would have made some sense since alot of places are playing the movie like VH1 etc....its almost 30 years to the day of the films release (in July) but so far there is no promo at all, not that there will be "lots" of it, but if Warners is going to do this, Prince doing some dates overseas is not an idea of doing promo. I know alot of people got way ahead of themselves in thinking that Prince was going to open the flood gates and let all the shit go. People were already talking of re-issues of other albums, which he can't even this one on track and this is the one (lets be honest) that will sell the others will be nothing more than things for the loyals.
But on the promotion side he has to get into doing it, i have seen nothing on his end accept the Breakdown single which had no link to anything, new album? who knows. But this WB re-issue if someone can screw this up i hate to say it, its him. Last info to date. May change but last info to date, + releasing it in summer would be totally foolish at least for Europe. IDK about the US but in Europe summer is when everybody's on holiday, goes to the beach and doesn't buy records. + if they want to promote it properly they need time, so even if rushed September would have to be the earleirst. The November release IDEA is a no-brainer, in the 90's or the early 2000's for any artist. BUT now this is not a slam dunk on sales, whether its a new record from an artist. back in the 90's that last tuesday prior to black friday was the lady labels tossed it all out there, many got lost, but it was when you got your big guns out there. December releases are what is known as DUMPING, this is when labels put out anything to make a buck, this is when you would always see the new "Bow Wow" release or alot of times Mary J dropped something right around first week of december.
With a re-issue of this stature, people dont realize just because it SOLD then doesnt mean its gonna be huge now, sure its gonna be pretty big, but no reissue from anyone ANYONE has ever come close to having a fraction of the sales of the original. Will it sell a million? i doubt to be honest, in this day and age i really doubt it. I hear alot of people talk about a market for this, and YES this is slam dunk money dont get me wrong, because there is no risk on a reissue, but be real, if you think WB is going to put that much energy into other re-issues, sorry i dont see it happening. Ownership is one thing, but they are not going to go out there and bet the house on a re-issue of "around the world in a day" which only sold because people were curious about a follow up to Purple Rain. YES the base of fans will probably be down for all of these things, but that is such a SMALL fraction of what he sold then. Put it this way, Example Billy Joel "The Stranger" sold close to 12 million in the USA alone, reissued for its anniversary back in 2007 as a double cd and also box set, it sold under 600,000 copies, and Billy has a wider fan base in america than Prince. Bon Jovi set to release New Jersey on July 1st as a double cd and also a box set with a dvd filled with tons of stuff never on DVD, now this album sold close to 10 million in the usa, 20 million plus worldwide, i can guarantee this will sell about 150,000 here and maybe 300,000 worldwide, and we can pretty much say that Bon jovi worldwide is the biggest touring act. It's OK, if WB is making that much money that they're too big for reissues, there are dozens of other labels who'll be willing to take on the job so who cares whether it's WB in the end. I'm not too sure WB is that rich, though, given the state of the music industry, + they have sublabels for those kind of reissues jobs, such as Rhino. Obviously they'll want to do at least Diamonds And Pearls I guess (after all they reprinted the video collection in DVD in 2006 when one could think no one gave a shit about this 15 years old music videos collection). But as I said no big deal, if they won't do it and is willing 2 move his ass and get his back catalogue remastered, he won't run out of candidates. I'm just happy to see that Prince and Warners are actually working together and for the first time Prince is actually revisiting a re-release of one of his albums in a remastered and anniversary sense. There's no reason from a fans perspective to prebitch about any of this. Just chill. Big Chick

Big Chick Are u sure BigChick that Prince and Warner are working seriously about the remasters...did u know if Prince is going to let WB picking out beautiful songs from his vault? Even though the law states that after 35 years the masters automatically go back to the artist, it isnt that simple I dont think. The artist has to request the masters and then there are legal issues over the contracts that were signed at the time and afterwards. It aint so cut and dry. So with Prince proving himself to be a very vocal nuisance to WB in the past, WB have decided to avoid the potential legal battles and try and make a bit of money before handing over the masters without argument. . I dont think WB are expecting to sell the reissues in their millions. I just think they want to at least make a bit of money out of them as opposed to losing a ton of money in legal battles and bad press which was going to be inevitable with Prince the longer he went without his masters. . Once Prince has his masters Im pretty sure he will cut and run. He will blame WB for the poor sales of his new album(s) and jump ship. Maybe once all of that is done, we may get Plectrum Electrum!

I'm quite sure there's a clause such as WB has the right to rerelease either some or all the albums once and are entitled to previously unreleased material for each b4 Prince can run away with the masters. They ain't fools and neither r their lawyers. Without any legal battle they could have just delievered the record one after the other when they get 35 y.o. instead of all at once so they must have made sure it'd be worth their while. It's not like they gonna trust because he's got a beautiful smile, u know. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

He's not gonna let them "pick" songs as in "hey guys u go roam in the vault and take what u dig". He will deliver whatever he feels is appropriate. It's possible WB has a contractual say on that, though, i.e. can ask for something else or more if unsatisfied with what provides, or decline to include some songs. It's likely it'll be great but I can't blame those who fear: has a long tradition of canceling or messing up with announced projects and he's nown 4 not being easy 2 work with when it comes to label execs. But u r right, let's not b negative and hope for the best, properly handled this could be what we've always be waiting 4 and only the begining of a brilliant archives series! Since Licensed to Ill by the beastie boys sells about 300,000 to 400,000 annually worldwide, one would think Purple Rain remaster would sale 1 million WW. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I can't believe anybody in their right mind thought there was more than a 1% chance of this happening so quickly, and especially at the last minute with ZERO PROMOTION based on some chain in Europe that has what, 9 or 10 stores?
Nothing from Warners, nothing from Prince, nothing from any USA sorces, but your local London Hale-Bopp chain has all the breaking news. Actually, Hale-Bopp was the comet, right? I can't remember. But I had a good chuckle when somebody thought this Beyounce method of promotion would work for a 56 year old artist without a hit in ages. Or that Warners would just do this. Dang, how do you spell Beyounce?

Prince has played ELECTRIC INTERCOURSE a couple of times on his last tour (the last time he played this song was more than 30 years)...do u think this is a good INDICATION that this unreleased jewel will be added as a bonus song on the Remastered Reissue version of Purple RAin to come this Fall???
