Madonna!

Madonna was slammed by the media last week because she posed in sexy underwear with Katy Perry. I don't think Madonna needs to stop because she's already established herself so if she wants to run with the younger crowd, so be it. But, Pharrell did say in an interview a few months ago that Madonna may have been tough to work with and they had to have a private convo to iron out their differences. How do you hire a producer to give you a certain sound and then argue with him? smile

But I still see little reason to compare him to people young enough to be his kids. Michael Jackson fell off creatively in his later years too.

When Bruno, Justin and Pharrell are still churning out hits in their fifties then we'll talk.

Well, in Pharrell's case, we can resume this discussion in a few years lol

People need to know when to quit...but Madonna's special? falloff Nobody wants to see her plastic Skeletor face and sucked up liposuctioned 55 y/o body. She needs to realize its time for her not-able-to-sing ass to hang it up.

Yeah it would be nice but P would never do it I just watched Justin ?Timberlake discuss his influences on Oprahs life class. He talked about Michael, Stevie, Donnie Hathaway, he even mentioned D'Angelo. Not a word on Prince... Not one single word. He talked about the song SexyBack and how that song was his attempt to really establish himself.... And all I could think about is how Prince claimed Sexy never went anywhere and created a public thing with Justin. As Justin continued to talk in depth about Stevie and Michael influences I remembered that he hired Princes drummer and base player and Sonny T. Cleary the dude is influenced by Prince. He reeks of 80s Prince.

Yup. And if you find the Rolling Stone interview when he first dropped "Future Love Sounds" (or whatever that album was called) they asked him why he named the album what he did. His response? "Because Purple Rain was already taken."

yep...that was before Prince dissed him

Pharell on Oprah Master series the same thing... mentioned Michael-Stevie as influences... nothing about Prince. Pharell is so clearly influenced by Prince... but Prince disses these guys. And records songs with Selena Gomez... and that friggin tranny he used to date

Its nuts... P really gets on my nerves

Whats with all the ageism against Madonna?

Older people can be sexy and should be allow to express it. If you don't like it, don't watch or support older artists.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Why should Madonna "quit" when she's still making millions and millions of dollars? lol Every few years, she goes on tour and each tour grosses over $300 million. You don't retire until you can no longer sellout arenas and your fans no longer care about you.Hell, even Cher recently launched a world tour.As long as the money keeps being made, these ladies can go on as long as they like.

I wonder why he didn't mention Prince. Maybe sometimes people don't want to reveal completely who they are copying/inspired by/etc. because they are trying to build their own so-called brand but it's more or less something that artists HAVE to say so they don't end up looking like shameless copycats. Some artists will always pass off as copycats or fakes because that's how the music industry is.....always chasing the next big star.

Can't believe what i'm reading!!

Happy.....really?! It's a horrendous, flat track along with the majority of his other productions. It's mainstream nonsense. Jesus, for him to produce for Prince....it would be a nightmare come true.

Prince can drop Ol' Skool Company, Laydown Xtended, Sticky Like Glue, Black Sweat, Breakfast Can Wait, etc (all well into his 50's)....Tracks that have what Pharrell and others are trying to do with computer loops, but (as par for the course with Prince) done with actual musicianship.

The fact that Prince is still dropping so many diverse tracks, hip tracks, this far into his career is incredible and he needs no mainstream producer to dumb him down in an attempt to get him in the charts. Prince is an artist....a musician, not a fucking product! He should be keeping it real and attempting to show everyone what real music by real musicians is all about....LIKE WHAT HE'S DOING OR NOT.

Sometimes i wonder if i'm on a Prince site.

Prince singing Happy or Blurred Lines....hahahaha, my god....that would be the most embarrassing move of his career.

Do you think Pharrell is mostly sought after just for his beats? I think a lot of people just focus on hooks and beats. I don't think Prince would resort to that in a song. But, who knows, maybe they might make something that could be pretty awesome.

Take off the purple shades.... Prince would die to be able to write a song like happy. All the songs you named sucked and were Prince's attempt to be current and he didn't pull it off.

Happy vs Black Sweat.... Are you nuts... Your post is laughable

Dumb him down... Can you get dumber than Stick Like Glue? The man needs help with his R&B stuff for real.... Beats, lyrics, music arrangements, vocal arrangements, working up a black sweat ... Really? That horrific panting and meow cat calls on Chocolate Box. One word man HORRIBLE

He needs help with his rock stuff too but at least with those tracks he is capable of pulling off the live performance because he still has the chops and can play that guitar.

Yeah I don't think so either. I think it was better for Pharrell. Also keep in mind that Happy was originally for Cee-Lo Green.

I saw a report about two weeks ago saying that Pharrell wrote the song for Cee-Lo but for some reason it was shelved. Pharrell decided to do it on his own and the rest is history. I was watching one of those entertainment shows that they caught up with Cee-Lo at the LAX airport and the paps out there asked Cee-lo if he regretted not doing it. He didn't say anything but the silence said it all! smile

Prince's massive ego, inability to comfortably work with men, and his Jehovah Witness faith are the major blockades for this type of collaboration. I also feel like these are the keys to why we have already seen the best of Prince and should not have unrealistic expectations of him anymore.

I see a lot of people hear bashing Pharrell's work. I ask, Have you listened to Pharrell whole catalogue of work? He has crafted slamming beats for his group N.E.R.D, Kelis, Brittany Spears, Robin Thicke, tons of rappers, Justin Timberlake, and various R&B artist. Before you say he sucks, do some due diligence and listen to his all his music and not base your judgement just off Happy. Btw Happy is a slamming, simple bare bone song that's a hit.

Since people are throwing it out there, How about this collaboration: Prince and R. Kelly? Let's hear some view on this one.
