Nile Rodgers wants to work with Prince

by Bang Showbiz | 23 May 2014

Nile Rodgers has revealed he wants to record with Prince.

The Chic star will be touring with 'Purple Rain' singer this year and he is hoping to get in the studio with Prince and lay down some tracks.

Speaking at the Ivor Novello Awards in London on Thursday (22.05.14), he said: ''This year I've been concentrating on my new album and I'm on tour with Prince a lot ... we always play together. I've been in the studio in close proximity to Prince and we've jammed together live but this year, after we've played together, we'll see what happens.

''I don't know about making an album (with him), although we do both work really quickly.''

Nile - who was honoured with the Special International Award for his incredible career at the ceremony, a prize handed to him by his friend Johnny Marr - also revealed he is set to work withDuran Duran again.

The 61-year-old guitarist performed with the band's singer Simon Le Bon and George Clinton at the International Music Summit's Legends Dinner in Ibiza on Wednesday night (21.05.14) where he was guest of honour and on the flight to the UK afterwards Nile and Simon discussed plans for their collaboration along with producer Mark Ronson.

The 'Good Times' hitmaker - who first worked with Duran Duran in 1984 on a remix of their hit single 'The Reflex' and then on their 1986 album 'Notorious' - said: ''On the plane Simon and I talked about working together and we're trying to figure out how our schedules can line-up so I can work on some of the Duran Duran stuff. I do know, according to what Simon said to me, that they're going work around my schedule which is amazing. I adore Duran Duran.

''I gave Mark Ronson his first Walkman and he started bouncing on one foot and then the other and then started becoming a producer. ''Can you imagine me and Mark in the same room as Duran Duran? That's going to be cool. The love is going to be insane.''

They would be a great combination together! They are two of the best rhythm guitar players that EVER played....

I'm glad that his illness is in remission and he's strong enough to work and tour, he is getting the respect he's due for having such a successful career. He's the last man standing from CHIC , I hope there's no ill feelings with the women of the group that made their sound so that there exists the possibility of a reunion show.

When he says that they're touring together, does he mean they'll be playing in the same band? Because that's pretty big news isn't it? Does this mean Prince is planning to tour without 3rd Eye Girl and with a new band featuring him and Nile? That would be awesome. I wonder if Nile's resurgence after Get Lucky might draw attention to Prince in turn, especially if they release a single together.

I hope Prince doesn't go the Pharrell route. It would be looked @ as a desperate attempt 4 a hit single. Which he doesn't really need. He is doing fine at what he is currently doing. Eye prefer he get one on his OWN terms.. The media would make a mockery of him.

What's the Pharrel route? That song was produced for Daft Punk with Pharrel guesting on vocals. I don't think Prince is going to guest on a Daft Punk record and nobody mentioned Pharrel. Nile Rodgers has worked with everyone, and it sounds like he's actually built a friendship with Prince.

As always Niles would have to somehow fit in prince's musical world (only way u work with prince) but I think he's flexible enough to do that perfectly. Having both of them working together would really be delicious biggrin

I think the most important information is that it won't be a one-off at the Essence festival, Nile has already said previously that there will be many shows. I'm almost sure there's a tour coming up and I only hope they'll play in Europe as well!

The Pharrell route is his comeback "solo" success has a lot to do with the hit disco song "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk, that Nile was apart of. Which ultimately lead to his MEGA hit single that won't go away "Happy"! Eye DO NOT want Prince to work with Nile too duplicate that strategy. Part of the reason why I admire Prince so much. Is that he does things his way, with no one elses help. Even though I do like Nile Rodgers as a musician.

Is Prince supposed to be Pharrell or Nile Rodgers in that scenario? Pharrell working with Niles is an entirely different scenario. When did you object to Prince working with Rosie, Chaka, Graham, and all the rest of his contemporaries? Also, since when do you begrudge Prince writing another big song?

.

.

I think what you're really saying is Prince would never work with someone like say, Zooey Deschanel...Oh, wait.

For real? It would be interesting to hear those two have a chicken scratch guitar duel. I love Nile both as a guitarist and a producer, his contribution to music is remarkable between what he did witn Chic and what he produced.

Bring it on, Niles might push Prince in a more 'funk' direction, it would be great if they started working together on new music! Then bring the tunes to Daft Punk or Oliver so they can inject them with some electronic beats and modern goodness. That would be a dream record to me!!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I really hope this happens. Nile has worked with loads of my favourite artists and if he worked with Prince that would just be amazing.

Thing is with Nile though, he usually likes to play on the actual track that he's producing, so if he did produce a track with Prince, Niles signature choppy guitar will be in there!

Seen as Nile is such a repuatable musician and producer I think Prince would be silly to turn down his offer.

It would be the one time I'd be excited to hear they brought Larry into a session too. I'd want the three of the to rip up some hard funk though, so that's probably just a dream.

I can totally picture those two cooking up some nasty funk together on stage.

But I fear it'll be a cold day in hell before Prince decides to get produced by anyone other than himself.

Prince's studio output lately has been amateurish to put it lightly. He is at a point where he absolutely needs help in the studio.

Not even gunna lie, apart from Funknroll I think most of his recent output has been slightly dismissive. I know a lot of people on here really like the breakdown but it just doesnt do it for me.

Truth.

And Nile Rodgers is the man, I would love to see what results in this, I hope it comes to fruition, unlike so many other discussed collaborations (that Anita Baker collab anyone?)

If Prince collaberated with or let Pharrell produce him. Eye would leave the purple kingdom! It would throw down the drain EVRYTHING Prince stood 4 in my almost 35 years as a follower..Both are immensely talented. But should remain seperate 4EVER!!!!

Is it a problem with Pharrell or is it just other producers in general?
