I really don't understand where Prince is coming from though. Converted music loses information and this is fine but if this is really bothers him why does he put out so much stuff which has terrible clipping and has the dynamic range compressed completely out of it? When a waveform is clipped we are losing sound. I'd rather listen to a properly mastered 320k mp3 than a lossless file with terrible clipping. The biggest problem isn't mp3 it's the mastering and this doesn't just apply to Prince, it applies to the entire music industry. If he wants to start a revolution, then bring back dynamic range, stop putting your music through compressors and stop putting the recording levels up to 11.

Microwaves cook out the nutrients, err ok, so does any form of cooking. As daft as this analogy seemed to me at first, it is actually perfect when related to music. Like the music, it's not the method of preparation that's the problem, it is making sure that the last steps are done properly. I can cook some veggies in the microwave and they can be delicious or I can cook them in the steamer but leave them in there too long and they become limp and nasty. I can cook them on too high of a temperature in the oven and burn them. A good meal is more than just the result of good ingredients.

A USB been release is not something new or unique, it looks like the first USB release dates back ten years, #mce_temp_url# (not sure what happened to the link there but it does go to the correct wiki article). You don't need a USB release to release lossless music, you can just sell it as a download on the internet. This is making me fearful of an overpriced release with perhaps even some kind of DRM, which wouldn't be good. But at the end of the day, however it's released, I'm going to be listening to it on my iPhone, Mac, or from a CD in the car. Just release it!

I might sound like a right moaning minnie, but I really just want to hear the music. Super pleased to hear that Mars and Funknroll are on there, Funknroll might be my favourite track of the last few years. I'll pay whatever the asking price is but please, just get it out there.
