Let's hire Prince! Ran across this article and thought I'd share. Wonder how much we'd each have to divvy up to book Prince to perform at an org meet up?

Okay, I'll ask a few more questions. What kind of set list do you think he'd come up with IF we had the means to hire him? Do you think he'd even perform if we had bank? The people on the org run from one extreme to the other with most somewhere in between, but we are his hardcore fanbase. I've stopped trying to figure Prince out long ago, but I think he'd perform and, as usual, it would be his way or no way. I do think we'd all leave either feeling we'd witnessed a 'masterpiece', or bitterly disappointed. Just don't think we're the type to accept mediocre, regardless of what he performed...especially for that amount of $$$. What do you think?

Damn Prince I see you..He would perform if we had the means to pay. He would play rare songs, b sides, and hits because we are hard core fans who KNOW his music well. The question is would we be able to raise that much? This Could Be Us But U Be Playin...

Would we be able to convince him to sing complete songs, or just do medleys with Doug E Fresh shouting over everything? It's easy to think that we would get the show that we want, but it's also possible Prince would sabotage this. If I won lottery, I'd offer him a ton for a show I'd like, and offer a cool extra 20 million should he bring a great combination of the 1983-1988 bands. He'd probably not even do it for $100 million. Prince avoids having the best possible band at all costs. It's like he enjoys knowing he's the best musician on stage by a landslide....he's much more comfortable with Andy Allo on guitar than Dez or Miko.

im in.. if 5,000 of us can donate $200... that is $1M... surely he would do it!
i dont think its THAT unrealistic!

I think, in all honesty, if you booked Prince you'd get the same greatest hits tour that's been going for 7 years P-p-e-n-g-u-i-n......the P is silent

. . Plus venue hire, Audio Visual, Security, Crew, Transport for crew, his Ryder which would be a hefty price I'd imagine, travel for his entorage, hotel expeses

And then we haven't even asked the really important question: WHERE would it happen? We live all over the world. Think I'll just wait patiently until he reaches Holland again...
But it's nice to see how much the big stars cost, thanx 4 posting. [Edited 7/8/14 4:37am]

To be honest, His fee will be more to put people off booking him, alot of Artists price themselves out of being booked privately because they simply dont like to do it, I would probably say Prince is one of them

Nothing new. Private parties command a higher booking fee than a public gig where it's more about scheduling and meeting the artists demands, but I'd bet Prince has played at least one if not several private parties, corprorate events, etc. each year that he's toured. Dictators and Arab royals are known for dropping millions for private shows. It's easy money. No you're not getting Prince to resdesign his show for you though. It's going to be whatever set he can pull out of his pocket without any thought. He would probably take up a special request or two though. I'm in for the first cool million for "Prince performs Darling Nikki" show. Who will match it?

Didn't he play George Lucas' party (I forgot what it was) last year?

And once we're done, we'll burn the masters of The Rainbow Children and every album after that in front of his eyes. We're gonna party like we'd never gotten past 1999!

Utter, utter nonsense !! Get a grip ! Can't believe some of the total shite I read here sometimes !
Renato Neto, John Blackwell, Mike Scott, Rhonda Smith, Maceo Parker etc etc etc. 3EG are decent too !
Andy Allo was their to be taught a bit of stage craft - not to be his main rhythm guitarist - that's why she drew at an easel for much of the time !

^Stillwaiting is still suffering from seeing a less-than-satisfying Prince concert 4 or 5 years ago...

He's had great musicians on stage with him on almost every tour, save for 1997, when Mike Scott was clearly the best player in a weak year for him. To clarify, he avoids having the best possible band at all costs, he simply won't have a band without weak links. He absolutely has to have a few lesser musicians on stage with him. 3rd Eye Girl are nice, but Ida is probably the only one I'd say is really close to being great.
He easily could have had John Blackwell or Michael Bland on drums, easily could have had Sonny T back on bass, and found a true set of guitarists, but he refuses to pay well. Problems with getting paid by Prince have been common chatter among many ex-band members "off the record." Just take a look at the cars driven by anybody that works for him. You're not gonna find anything much better than an old clunker.

Seriously, stillwaiting, what's happening? You always trash Shelby or the NPG and when someone replies, you always go, "oh yes, they're really good, but in fact, they're really bad." That's sort of what you're always saying. [Edited 7/9/14 15:55pm]

If Shelby is singing, she is a fine background singer. If she is shouting "Put Your Hands Up" at the top of her lungs, Prince has allowed her to be reduced to a useless, irratating crowd flunky. There is a difference. Prince's early bands had few weak links. His bands from 1997 on always have weak links. As a songwriter, and having a good ear for music, it is easy for me to see the difference. I don't have the overly negative ears of Bart Van Halen, but I also don't have the overly positive viewpoints of Kool Moe Dee Musico.
I simiply have my own opinion without catering to those overly positive or over negative people.

You could kickstarter this, 1 million, he'd probably do it. But you'd have to have a vote on the playlist first. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

i would contribute as well,
Would be about 2 million probably. Would be $400 each

SuperSoulFighter said: Didn't he play George Lucas' party (I forgot what it was) last year? Yes, he did! It was in Chicago, for George Lucas' wedding reception (after the wedding in California). I thought at the time, Lucas must have lots of petty cash lying around to be able to afford that! And now we have an idea about how much it cost him. Wow!
