1985 prince would murder 2014 prince out of shame for what he has become .. yes it is that bad

And what exactly has he become that is so bad?.....A Prince that doesn't curse, or use explicit lyrics anymore, a Prince that seems more relaxed and less uptight, a Prince that's seems more at peace with himself, a Prince that still holds God near and dear to his heart, a Prince that seems happier with his life right now, than in 1985, etc? Personally, I prefer 2014 Prince to 1985 Prince, because I like that Prince a lot more.

But if you read much of what Prince said during 1982-1985 was almost contradictory in a lot of ways to who he is today.
.
I think we should all just remember the Prince of 2014 would not be here if it wasn't for the Prince of 1985. And I enjoy Prince altogether. But Uptown Controversy Little Red Corvette Erotic City Pop Life Mountains Prince is why Prince is still in the spot light now...

But most of Lotus Flow3r is epic.

.

No it isn't. And Prince agrees with me. Hell, that album was so shite he didn't even bother releasing it outside of the US, he didn't bother touring it, and none of the songs became part of his repertoire (occasional performances don't count).

.

Not MPLSound...which is mostly average or below average Prince...

and most of 3121, Musicology, Planet Earth, and 20 Ten is pretty good with some Epic songs from those albums: Reflection, A Million Days, The Dance, Fury, 3121, The 1 U Wanna See, Future Soul Song.

.

I cannot recall most of these, and I can't be bothered to.

.

Nowadays you get all these people that insist it is uncool to hate Coldplay, because that's just you being too hip for good pop music. Hell to the no, I've always hated Coldplay and their generic U2 for dummies crap.

.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that I genuinely don't give a fuck about just about everything Prince released after 1995? Why would I bother wading into that morass of mediocrity -- and I'm being mightily generous labeling it mediocrity -- when there's plenty of great Prince music available? Or when there's plenty of new music available that inspires me? Why would I bother with 3EG when I can listen to tUnE-yArDs or St. Vincent? I've tried listening to Prince's latest dreck, and there's simply no there there: it's imitation, ersatz. It's a man going through the motions. It's formulaic.

.

Earlier this week I wanted to check something in the SOTT film and I fired up the Blu-ray, and suddenly I realised that I'd completely forgotten what I was looking for and instead I had spent 30+ minutes just watching that movie. That hasn't happened with anything Prince has released in the past 15+ years. Sure, there have been a couple of songs that had me going "well this is OK", but now I look back at those albums and there's absolutely no urge at all for me to play them. And I've tried: every now and then I load one of those albums on my mp3 player and I try to get through them, but I soon find myself skipping songs and eventually abandoning it altogether.

.

All this nonsense about P's recent output being just as good as his 1980s: you all know that isn't true. Prince knows it isn't true. Someone who went to one of the Celebrations (I think it was T) once mentioned on amp about how P was showing a video of a 1980s gig (I think the 1986 birthday one) and how P was watching it from the soundboard obviouly being in awe of it, realising fully well how that guy was something else. And yet this never seems to have inspired Prince to strive to such greatness again. Just look at the current 3EG tour: because he has a very limited band, he once again is doing a piano segment and a sampler segment, simply to pad out the concerts and provide the audience with some of his hits. How sad is that?

Take care in writing songs again: Write a few great songs for an album and stop doing sub-standard nonsense.

'85 Prince should say "change that hairstyle, as it looks worse than ever".

'85 Prince should say "ditch what you are doing, call up Matt, Wendy, Lisa, Mark and Bobby and make an album". "You know what, go ahead and call up Dez too".

85' Prince should say "this year you'll do a proper tour with the band above celebrating your biggest success that you will never come close to achieving again".

'85 Prince should say "delete that goober's number that got you brainwashed in the first place".

"What the heck is that thing on your head?"

...In other news, I find myself agreeing with the majority of Bart's comments. However he really should be recalling some of those songs listed, to give his argument more credibility.

I do think that, if nothing else, The Dance and 3121 are memorable.

1985 "P": You're too focused on the past.

2014 "P": Call me when you're #1 at my bank.

OR

2014 "P": You curse too much in your songs.

1985 "P": You should loosen your g-string.

I think the younger Prince would be in awe of the older Prince, for the simple fact that he's still in the game all these years later. He's doing things differently now, but he's still doing it.....and looking good/healthy in the process. I think the younger Prince would just give a nod and a wink (and maybe a little smirk) and keep it moving.

Hypothetically speaking, IF Prince back in his PR days had the opportunity of meeting present day Prince, what would he think? Would he be proud to know, that standing right in front of him, was his future? Would he think FALLINLOVE2NITE was funky?

He'd have to tell him that he completely sucks and makes a very bad impression on his older future self, thus, a 2014 Prince would be a bad example for a one hell of a talented & enthusiatic Prince to dutch every project and say well If I'll end up doing shit music like that why am I doing it in the first place.

I don't want a 1985 P to meet the 2014 dicksucking P..... The latter would be a bad influence.

EDIT: I realized I hated too much on Prince, so I think that 85' Prince would slightly dislike 14' Prince for his whole lack of his usual risky approach of music...
