I can take or leave Raspberry Beret. Great songcrafting I know but then again REM are really good at that but they turn me on just as little.
Prince's guitar solos. All of them bar Kiss, Sexy MF and the end of Let's Go Crazy. We'll leave it there.

Yeah, I remember before I heard Gold a lot of people said it was the Purple Rain of the 90s. Then when I eventually found the Gold Experience in a second hand shop (this was long after it was out of print), I RACED home to listen to GOLD. Even after the first couple of bars of the song I was like "this is NOT what I was hoping for!" I can understand the comparisons, it's an epic scale pop song. But I don't agree with those comparisons AT ALL.

For me, it's the album version of Kiss. http://www.goldiesparade.co.uk/ - Prince discography, tour history, news and more.

Black Sweat, i hate it. i just like the part where some other instruments come in, in the end.
why the hate on Uptown? thats a classic, love everything about it.

haha! I think thats the best comparison of that song i've ever heard!
For me i think it has to be "America". I almost always skip it. Oh and "Still would stand all time" but everyone hates that one.

DUDE? Why are you even a fan? Seriously, WHY?

I actually kinda agree with this. I'm not a huge fan of the song either, BUT in the context of the album I find it just perfect.

Forever In My Life is one of my favorite Prince songs for just that reason, being "stripped". To me it sounds like a man just being honest about his feelings, no pretentions, no reservations.

I thought this thread was for songs that MOST people love, as in the general public or even fans. Hell, I didn't know songs like AVALANCHE, WALK DON'T WALK, CAUSE & EFFECT even counted!

Yeah that was secretly my internal reaction as well.. but I kept it on the inside. Change it one more time..

Cream
A weak, lackluster en anoying song. It lacks everything. Incomprehensible that it was nr 1 in the USA. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." - Carl Sagan

"Cream"?? Seriously?? That song is brilliant! It's exactly the type of song that Prince needed after the GB movie fiasco...something cool, fun and catchy. It's one of Prince's strongest pop songs of the 90s.

His cheesy love songs-- Diamonds and Pearls, and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Exactly, one of his strongest songs ever!

Whether one hates Cream or loves it, I agree it's easy to see that it was the right song at the right time. Catchy, easy to dance to, groovy guitar, innuendo all over the place, and a video chock full o' hotties. After the Michael/Janet Jackson wannabe video for Thieves in the Temple, it was nice to see Prince as the master of his domain once again.

When Doves Cry never liked the song don't know why it gets so much praise i always prefered the B-Side and anything on Musicology that gets praised just hate that whole album

For me the least favorite Prince song is "My name is" from the 1992 symbol album. I flat out can't stand it. It sounded awful in 1992 when i was 7 years old and it still sounds awful. Prince was trying way too hard to infuse hip hop into his music back then. I can't believe nobody else has mentioned this song yet.

Such a hipster. Also, you crazy. As for me, all those Adore-esque ballads that came out after it always felt like a rather forced attempt at recapturing the success of Adore and Do Me, Baby. I'm talking about Scandalous and Insatiable and... er, well I can't think of another right now, but I'm sure there is one. Probably on Musicology, I've never really bothered with that album. Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
