3ChainsOfGold heavily inspired by Meatloaf, I Would Do Anything For Love He virtually ripped Meatloaf off.

Not to pile on, but if you're going to make a claim like that wouldn't you at least do something as simple as check dates?

I see the thread title has already been addressed (and wondering if the OP to post a thread with the reverse title). However, I'm sure 3 Chains of Gold was Prince's tribute to the recently deceased Freddy Mercury of Queen.

That's also what I think was the inspiration to the song, a tribute to Freddie Mercury. But I also want to point out that "Bohemian Rhapsody" was a big hit in early 1992, twenty years after it's inital release, because it was part of the soundtrack of the extremely popular first Wayne's World movie that was released to cinema in February 1992. This also could've been the inspiration for the song, and not Freddie's death. But maybe I'm wrong and prince already recorded the album before Bohemian Rhapsody's return to the charts. [Edited 4/5/14 21:23pm] I think you'll find Bohemian Rhapsody was re released to commemorate Freddie's death, all proceeds went to the aids foundation that was started after Freddie's death, not because of the film, that was coincidental. The film was why it was all over radio and MTV in the US. Also. It made its resurgence in the public well after after 3 Chains O' Gold. He was definitely inspired by it. The fact that the song was extremely popular again at the time of the album's release served to make the similarities obvious.

I think the video for the re-release of "Bohemian Rhapsody" even had the characters from Wayne's World in it, so the movie definitely had a lot to do with its popularity then.
