I think this is his best chance at a top 20 hit since 1995 BUT I am seriously doubting that it will happen even with promotion, its just beeen waaaay too long, most folk on the singles market dont even know who he is and whilst its a great little EDM track its not THAT good. Ironically I would have thought it would be more successful in the UK than the US as EDM is big here and he has just had Brits exposure and the Hit N Run! | |

Prince should have added it to his Arsenio per4mance to give it an extra boast! Josh Prince's BFF could have added his keyboard on it as Prince's new band member.. .. You know what would be awesome? If people would name the specific chart and specific country that said chart comes from each time they give a chart position. | |

Very good point and will do so with future posts. I'm really only able to grab US data. With tomorrow being a week into the campaign, it will be interesting to see if the upward momentum continues as Epic Records continues promotion. All good things they say never last... | |

Yeah, the fact that this song is obviously very club oriented (or at least tries to mimic the sound you general find in clubs) makes me wonder how well it would work in a live setting. I wonder if he'll try and play around with the arrangement so that it fits better with his other work when in concert? If he toned down the EDM synths a bit and maybe added some funky guitar licks most of my problems with this song would disappear and I can imagine it sounding pretty good, certainly more organic at any rate.

It still wouldn't have a strong melody. It's a very weak composition compared to lots of his other work. It isn't memorable at all. I don't listen to radio a lot, but besides all the crap there is also a lot of good young artists out there who deliver much better popmusic than this awful mess from "the artist". Prince has absolutely no quality control and I will never understand how he decides his single choices. [Edited 3/23/14 15:15pm] | |

Does anyone remember how long it took for Hey Ya to reach #1 after it was released? Even though that hit was a no brainer, I'm pretty sure it took a few weeks atleast. Fallinlove2nite is nowhere near the quality, but it has potential of becoming a hit imo. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah | |

All right, the start of week 2. The drop in sales was probably predictable, will probably be out of the Top 300 in US Amazon and ITunes by tomorrow or Wednesday. The battle now becomes airplay. If the song is to be a hit, the radio stations who added must keep the song on their playlist and their needs to be new stations added. So, as those with access can get airplay data that would help to see how the song is progressing. As some of you have states, and I have agreed with, this is a long campaign and Epic still probably has a lot of ideas but with sales stalling (for now?) the goal would certainly have to be getting it added to playlists. It does take a long time to make a song a hit but Fallinlove2nite is a little bit of an exception. This is not a song from a buzzworthy band, this is a single from a 55 year old who radio hasn't touched (except for the old stuff) in two decades. If Epic is going both guns blazing and radio stations politely decline in favor of playing Kiss or Raspberry Beret for the 8 millionth time, a hit is not going to happen. Can Epic get more stations to bite, that is the question. All good things they say never last... | |

-------- Once again if a song makes it on the RnB charts it is still considered a hit. Prince has had songs do well on the RnB charts and it was not 20 years ago. If he cannot get radio to play his music now it well have to do with his age and little to do with the music itself. | |

Excellent point and I should have been more specific. He continued to have hit songs on Urban AC through the 2000s...it is the pop chart that has dried up. R and B radio did not abandon Prince (and vice versa) like pop radio did. All good things they say never last... | |

For those of us who don't follow the charts, how does this compare to other singles? Is it getting more airplay than, say, Musicology? Or The One? What would be the last Prince song who got this kind of airplay? | |

Before that ...Call My Name went to #75 , spent several weeks on the hot 100 due to strong urban and urban ac airplay. Last top 40 pop radio hit was in 1997, The Holy River. Fallinlove2nite is currently #59 as noted above Musicology made it to the bubbling under chart but did not chart on hot 100 | |
