Best song released since the formation of 3rdeyegirl What's up guys? Just curious what does everybody feel is the best song of the 3rdeyegirl era or since the beginning of 2013. Name your pick, or top 3. Here is mine.
1. Pretzylbodylogic 2. FUNKNROLL 3. Fixurlifeup

No comparison: "Octopus Heart".
Not a huge fan of most of what they've put out so far, but Octopus Heart is hypnotic.

I like most of the non-3EG songs that have been released in the last year more than theirs.

me too. "funknroll" is the only one i kind of like, eventhough it's too busy for me in parts. the other singles off plectrum electrum i could do without, including the title track. / however, i did like most of their instrumental music, that got a 'release' of sorts through the livestreams. stuff like "midnite blues" and all the other jams, not least of which were the soundcloud tracks (octopus heart/menstrual cycle). / prince's solo output was a lot more fun for me and i've listened to those tracks a lot this last year. even compiled them into a neat little album that binds well together due to the use of the horns in most of the tracks. also, it flows surprisingly well: 02. Rock N Roll Love Affair 03. Same Page Different Book 04. Breakfast Can Wait 05. Extraloveable Reloaded 06. Boyfriend 07. FallInLove2Nite 08. Groovy Potential 09. Ain't Gonna Miss U When Ur Gone 10. Da Bourgeoisie 11. That Girl Thing / have to admit that i'm not really a fan of either "girl thang" or "bourgeoisie" but i still like them better than LOL, FULU of PBL.

Funknroll, but the sad thing is: this song is completely free of a new artistic vision. Still better than everything else he puts out these days.
Haha, another newbie! Be careful, you're on a good way to turn into one yourself by making such statements.

No 1 for me is Groovy Potential.
Honorable mentions: PretzlbodyLogic and Same Page, Different Book.
If released: FunkNRoll

Yes Groovy Potential is the best song relased during this 3EG era Welcome 2 The Dawn

I've got a similar one. My one goes like this:
1) Screwdriver 2) FixUrLifeUp 3) Extralovable Reloaded 4) Ain't Gonna Miss U 5) Breakfast Can Wait 6) Boyfriend 7) Rock N Roll Love Affair (RNR 7) 8) Da Bourgeoisie 9) Fallinlove2nite 10) Same Page Different Book 11) Groovy Potential 12) Laydown Extended
That Girl Thing I don't like much and sounds too much like a demo to be in an "album"

Funknroll is easily my favorite, although it hasn't been released and I'm not certain that if/when it IS released, it will be under the 3EG moniker. To me, it is not guitar-driven enough to fit their style.
LOL I would rather forget, because to my ears that's one of the most dreadful pieces of crap that I've ever heard. The singing is awful, the melody is forgettable, and the lyrics are juvenile at best.
Pretzelbodylogic made me cringe at first, but after listening a few times, I've decided that if the stupid chanty chorus wasn't there (let alone starting the song off), it would be a decent song. I do like his vocals on here. Nothing that really gets me going, but again aside from the god-awful chorus, it's not so bad. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

"FunkNRoll", although it doesn't really have an official release. It's only been previewed so far.

Groovy Potential is by far the best song released in the last two years. And I really like that rehearsal video of Plectrum Electrum from Madison Dube, props to the writer Donna Grantis.

I like FUNKNROLL but to me it doesn't really sound like the other 3EG guitar stuff whereas Screwdriver does . I like the 'sound' of Pretzel and his vocals (even tho I haven't got a clue what he's going on about) but as most seem to say the chanty chorus is a bit grating . It's been speculated a lot on here and it's unlikely to happen but it would be good to have a double album of the 3EG tracks and the solo stuff

I think (1) "The Breakdown" and (2) "FallInLove2Nite" are at the top of the list. They're very different, very engaging songs, and reach the same general quality level reached during Prince's peak period IMO. (That doesn't mean I think they're better than his absolute classics, but I think they are probably at least average-to-above-average compared to all of his officially released songs from the 80-88 "Prince Golden Era.") I would rank (3) Breakfast Can Wait and (4) Boyfriend a notch below the top two, but IMO they're still pretty damn good. I think it would be okay to include these as album tracks if they fit properly (sort of the equivalent to "Do It All Night" on "Dirty Mind" or "It" on SOTT)
As far as some of the more straightforward funk songs from this period, I consider them solid, but not great or super-imaginative. Maybe one or two of these (with a really free-flow "jamming out" vibe to the recording) would click in the right album configuration... but I'm less into (5) FunkNRoll and (6) Groovy Potential... and possibly a couple of others I'm forgetting. Prince in pretty much straight retro-funk JB-influenced mode is not my favorite side of him. He's great at it, but I love it when he tries new things and creates more eclectic, original, and/or unpredictable songs.
Then, some of the other songs -- LOL, PBL, Screwdriver (mostly for the embarrassing lyrics... the music is ok, but not good enough to override the cringey lyrics IMO), and FULU (even though I like the verse music in FUBU, the lyrics/chorus aren't doing it for me -- shouldn't be on Prince's "official release" level.
I have yet to hear "2 Young 2 Dare" and "I Ain't Gonna Miss U," and so can't comment on those.
Overall, I feel like something positive is brewing here... "The Breakdown" is a song we're blessed to have, and "FallInLove2Nite" is just super-catchy fun. Some other songs from this period feel solid, or at least have very cool moments. If Prince would place "The Breakdown" and "FallInLove2Nite" on an empty album, and then get to work filling in the other 9-10 tracks based around that, optimally including at least one song designed to really be a "knock-you-on-your-ass" hit (like "Kiss" was on the mostly more experimental, album-based-experience of "Parade"), I would be thrilled.

Agreed. I'm not sure of the 3EG involvement in that though.
They're a good live band though, no doubt about that. I blame the composer, arranger and producer for the studio stuff. i wonder who that be? [Edited 4/5/14 16:13pm]
