LOVE this! Thank you! P.S. wasn't the "warehouse" turned into Paisley Park?

No. The warehouse was in Eden Prairie. Paisley Park is in Chanhassen.

Do you know where it was in Eden Prairie ?

I live in EP now and I don't recognize the warehouse.

Probably been torn down. Most of the buildings here are fairly new(since mid 90's or later).

thanks for any info !

Correct. Funny thing, that building across from First Ave was moved to Hennepin Ave a few years back.

If you get 20th Aniversary Edition of the DVD. The director explains that the deleated scens were destroyed. He also talks about shooting in L.A. due to weather.

Now help me out, Laura. I've listened to that commentary many times and must have missed where he said the deleted scenes were destroyed.

[snip Be civilized:there was no reason say that-OF4S] I have this DVD I will watch again and find the place were the director on the voice over states that the scence were destroyed. I will orgnote and put it back on this thread so you can look ridculous to everyone if that is what you want.

Don't be so defensive, Laura. Although I seriously doubt you'll find this supposed information, when you do find it, just post it here. No need to orgnote although it's your time to waste.

It is called being real and I will get that information to you directly. How foolish is it to think that none of this footage in its entirety would have not have leaked by this time? It has not leaked because it was destroyed which is exactly what the director states on the voiceover.

Sad to see what? Someone questioning you on something you're passing as fact but providing no evidence to back it up? Ok. Have you listened to the commentary yet? I'll give you a reference point. During the "matter with this house" sequence, Al Magnoli mentioned that the reasons the shots go dark is because the film lab lost the camera negative to the shots. So he had to make a copy of those shots from his workprint to insert into the finished film. Other than that, he nor the other commentators never made any reference to the deleted footage from the film being totally destroyed.

This is the last post I'll make regarding this distraction from the original topic. My apologies to the creator of this topic.

No, Blacknote did not do that. Blacknote was just asking a question. Just provide the information. People ask questions, because we all don't have all the information.

Apollonia Kotero, who played the beautiful aspiring singer with whom The Kid begins to fall in love, says she was already familiar with the diverse music scene in Minneapolis by the time she arrived. She even knew about the club where Prince took her on the night of her audition for the film.

"I remember it was crowded and all these people were staring," she says. "And I thought, 'Oh, this is like, this is like his place!' And we danced!"

Roy Freedom, who has been a DJ at First Avenue for 30 years, says that Prince's music fit right into the club's cutting-edge vibe in the 1980s."It was just a really exciting, fun time. Well, Prince was the main thing, of course," Freedom says. "There was that whole wave of what was coming over from England — New Order — and then we had some New York stuff. I don't know if you remember; there was a song called 'The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight.' That was a big record here."

Jon Bream, a music critic who has been with the Minneapolis Star Tribune for 36 years, first saw Prince perform at the Capri Theater here in 1979.

"That's one of the great blessings of him growing up here," Bream says. This live music town, he says, had a mix of sounds when Prince was coming up that included punk, garage rock, funk and R&B. "So he didn't limit himself to R&B music. He listened to everything. He listened to a lot of classic rock and got a lot of influences in his music."

When Purple Rain came out in 1984, it drew attention to Minneapolis, but many figures in the local music scene don't think the movie really had a huge effect on the city's music. Especially since, at the time, it was already boasting other hot bands like The Replacements and Husker Du.

"I think it helps that Purple Rain was done here in the area, but obviously it's gone way past that," he says. "A huge array of styles of music, from hip-hop to traditional Irish folk music to everything in-between, basically."

But Bream says Prince — and Purple Rain — changed the stakes for musicians in Minneapolis. "People knew you could make it out of here and make it big. Bob Dylan is from here. He went to college here, but he had to move to New York to make it," he says. "Prince proved you could stay here to make it, and you could make it huge."

The movie's mystique clearly lives on: Bream says that almost any big-time rock band that comes through Minneapolis on tour makes some comment about Prince and Purple Rain, especially if it plays First Avenue.

When The Kid goes home and sees his mother's crying in the front yard it is daytime. He immediately goes inside to confront his dad and the windows show that it is now night.

PRINCE
Ma...?

She turns, he gasps out loud. Her left
eye is swollen shut--

MOTHER
(drunkenly)
Hi, ya, baby...

Her drunken breath washes over him --
his head spins--

PRINCE
Ma...what happened?

She rubs up against him--

MOTHER
Can you give me some money?
C'mon, just some money...

She gropes for him drunkenly -- he
suddenly realizes she doesn't know who
he is--

MOTHER
Here...here...

She tugs at her wedding ring--

MOTHER
Give me something for
this...just a little. It'll
be okay...

PRINCE
C'mon...I'll take you home.

Just then a COP moves through the Crowd-
-

COP
Okay, c'mon now -- break it
up. Let's go..

The Crowd moves out. Police RADIOS
cackle. Three WOMEN stagger over, one
of them grabbing his Mother--

WOMAN
C'mon, honey -- we're goin'
in...

She fixes Prince with a glare--

WOMAN
You're a little young aren't
you? Get out of here. Leave
her alone.

3. Director Albert Magnoli filmed a second love scene that was not included in the final cut of the film. This scene has special meaning because it contains the actual illusion of purple rain. A snippet of this scene is included in the theatrical trailer for the film, as well as the "When Doves Cry" montage. The scene, as well as the other deleted footage that led up to it, is also outlined in the film's screenplay found on various Web sites.

I once read an early script of Purple Rain.Vanity's lines were in this script,so this was before Apollonia came on board. This script also describes a scene where the Kid and the Revoultion are performing "G-Spot".In another performance scene,"Electric Intercourse" is performed. It's interesting to see how different the movie was, before all the script and song changes.

I missed and/or didn't understand something, because all this time I thought "Dad" was a kook. That if "Ma" was 5 minutes late from the salon or something decent he was tripping out on her behavior and making something out of nothing. What is this???
What?
