But if Prince only wants Dr. F to be his "mouth piece", then starting up an official, verified youtube channel and allowing literally the entire planet to embed his videos was a catastrophically bad decision on his part. It's absolutely impossible for him to sue or shut down websites that decide to carry/promote/advertise official youtube videos that he put up and allowed to be embedded. Right now there are hundreds (if not thousands) of websites that are gonna embed his Arsenio video on their blogs/sites/whatever, and simply telling their visitors to check out Prince on Arsenio. My guess is that no one is gonna think they are his official mouth piece, but instead are just passing along a cool video.

The most Prince can do is remove the video from youtube or disable embedding. Why he didn't/hasn't done that, I have no clue. If anyone on the Org is seriously worried about being shut down from even posting links to his official youtube videos, their fear isn't rooted in anything contained in law--well, unless there are connections to and legal agreements with Prince behind the scenes that us peons don't know about lol...which could be the case. If so, then it would be great if those legal agreements that keep us Prince fans from actually being able to share his officially released videos were to bring other benefits to the site other than not being shut down lol...(which kinda contradicts his statements in his interview about fans sharing his stuff with other fans is cool, but not bootleggers mass producing unreleased stuff for profit)

I'm scratching my head at that statement. The man has done more with his gift than many do with theirs. I'd say he's been living his potential for a while - even if it's not the way we want him to do it. Of course, there's always room for improvement but the potential you're talking about is God-like. Beck doesn't have that either.

Well, now Dr.Funkenberry posted a clip from Prince's channel. The entire show is up on there now. So I'm guessing it really is official, especially since that's what the Doctor is literally saying!

That's actually Prince's FOURTH official YT channel.

There's the regular 3EG channel, the 3EG vevo with only FULU on it, the Prince vevo with only BCW on it and now this... He really doesn't want all his apples in one basket

The issue with VEVO pages is that the artist doesn't have access to them - the accounts are maintained automatically by the record labels/distributors.

For example - this is the official YouTube for my band, and this is "our" VEVO page.

It's obvious from looking at them what the difference is. Our actual YouTube page is obviously maintained by us, our fans are subscribed to it, it has our interviews, acoustic sessions, etc. Whereas our VEVO page is just completely lifeless, and seems to contain random music videos from other artists that have nothing to do with us added to playlists.

The only reason VEVO exists is because Google had to strike a deal with the record labels to avoid getting sued. On VEVO channels, the labels control the adverts and the monetisation, etc.

I'd rather not use it, to be honest, but when dealing with most labels you can't avoid it.

Does that mean that Kobalt is responsible for the 2 Vevo channels? It could also be Prince since (thru NPG) he's BOTH the artist and the label, couldn't it?

Also, if u wanna make some dough, now that u've posted links 2 Swami's YT channels u can sue Ben and the Org for a million bucks claiming they didn't have the masala seal of approval

at masala seal of approval. NPG Records won't have access to the VEVO, it'll be Kobalt, assuming they're the digital distributors of those songs. We operate in the same way, with our own record label, but we partnered with a digital distributor for our last release (INGrooves in our case). And I remember when there was a typo or some incorrect information on the VEVO we had to email our contact at INGrooves to get it sorted. It's a gigantic waste of time in my opinion and the amount of promotion that you can get from VEVO cross-linking isn't worth the lack of control and analytics you lose from not having access to the account.

Mmmh, very interesting, thx. So what happens when P's contract with Kobalt is terminated? Can he blow them away simply by having the videos removed for copyright infrigement like he did with the poor dudes at Purple Music, or will he have to say "please" for once (or send Kobalt a C&D)?
