I understand what you are saying. And yes, very often men joking about man to man contact is a form of hidden homophobia.

However, in this case it's not. He also humorized his statement of disliking people who touch his hair. That is just his style.

And about the man-to-man contact:

1. Prince is afraid of germs. His anxiety about germs and/or bacteria is so intense, that it influences his behavior.

2. And because he is somewhat famous, some people feel the need to be close to him. Physically I mean. So, people will touch his hair, his clothes or 'accidently bump into him'.

3. Prince is no giant. So, in crowded spaces, the petite ones get bumped into a lot. And that is annoying.

ergo

Prince does not want people to come close to him, let alone touch him.

It was Arsenio who made the joke about it always are men bumping into you, never the beautiful women. - Wich in Prince his case, I doubt, btw - . If you paid attention, Prince responds very neutral to that "joke". So, if you want to read the implied homophobia or sexism in the incident, I think you should adress Arsenio, not Prince.

I get your point, but this time I think you were not on point.

In general though, yes, laughing about man-to-man contact is a form of hidden homophobia.

Here's someone that agrees with me (kinda)! The good guys fight back!

About what point do you think I agree with you?

I'm more concerned with what Prince considers funny. He'c crack about not getting too close to men just underlines, for me, that's he's part of an older generation. I'm not saying he has to like it but to joke about it feels old. That's all.

Also, given all his other conservative, religious views I don't think it's too much of stretch to say that homophobia might be a tendency with him.

Of course, the fan bots here don't want to hear that so they dismiss it out of hand. Well, that says more about them than it does me.

No, this is a case of oversensitivity and political correctness gone awry. Why are you concerned?

I can make the same joke. If I was a female celebrity and joked about men always bumping into me would you think anything of it?

Men are not a repressed minority. No one worries about their sensitivities because, by and large, we still live in a patriarchal society.

Again, not putting words in your mouth, but it's the same arguments made for racism against white people. Jokes against minorities (black, gays, hispanics etc.), on the other hand, have all other kinds of cultural/historical significance afforded by those in power.

Yes, in all that verbiage you still managed to completely miss the point. The bit about me being judgemental gave me a good laugh, though.

Allow me: my focus here is what he considers to be humor, For him, it's funny to make jokes about the proximity between men ergo homosexuality. It's tacit, I agree, but we all get the implication - it just 'aint right. This shows his age and, to quote a well worn phrase of late, puts him on the "wrong side of history".

It's kind of like racists who don't claim to racist because it's only a joke.

As for your point - who cares how he deals with it when he's at parties.

Cmon now, you know Orgers don't understand words like "tacit" You gotta post on an 8th grade level to these stanning idiots. lol

The point is, you don't have a point. What you have is an opinion. You feel that Prince expressed some type of homophobia because he doesn't like people bumping into him, men being the major culprits. You don't know Prince. So all you have is your interpretation of what he said and your judgement of it which was clear when you threw in words like "ignorant" and "worst". Arsenio moved away from the subject because there was nothing to belabor - much like this thread. C'ya.

Ok, For all those with a penchant for kneejerkism. Here's my point:

My focus is on what he considers to be humor. For him, it's funny to make jokes about the proximity between men ergo homosexuality. It's tacit, I agree, but we all get the implication - it just 'aint right. This shows his age and, to quote a well worn phrase of late, puts him on the "wrong side of history".

I coudn''t care less how he deals with it when he's at parties. I also don't have an opinion when it comes to my own personal space. Please, it's getting tiring. I'm responding to his sense of humor.

He was making a statement about what affects HIM personally, he did not make any comment about guy groupies behaviour in general, you INFERRED something very specific due to your own hypersensitive insecurity about your sexuality.. Just as you wouldn't want anyone telling you that you shouldn't have a perspective about what affects YOU personally, similarly you shouldn't try to dictate to others what they should think about what affects them personally. This thread states more about you than it does about Prince, especially given that you're the only one who seems to have taken issue to his random comment to the point of making a thread about it.

Change it one more time..

I know exactly what he's getting at, and, when you consider the Morris and Jerome scene in Graffiti Bridge, where touching each other made them physically puke, then that gives you every indication of Prince's distaste of it "being dudes".

I dont see anything wrong with that. As a female my friends and I get together and talk about how much we dont like when "dudes" do it towards us and we're straight. But no one will make a big deal about that.

Just another case of overuse of political correctness.
