I couldn't wait to hear "The Breakdown" , only to find that it's incredibly unremarkable, much like everything he's done of late.

"The Breakdown" reminds of the Crystal Ball song "Strays Of The World" -- and that's not a good thing, IMHO.

"Strays Of The World" is one of the weaker song on CB, a really strange sound.

I'm now torn between The Breakdown and The Unexpected (with Prince's vocals)

I just heard Liv Warfield's version and it's really good. Is the instrumentation the same on the Prince version or is it a completely different recording?

Different, Liv's version is her band, Prince's is 3EG

I hope the studio version is better than the two live versions--a bit too laid back for me, but a decent tune. His attempt at another Purple Rain--you cannot beat the best but I have hopes for the studio version.

I don't buy that he was ever a drinker.

He's made quite a few references to alcohol in his lyrics: champaign in 3121, "have another glass of port and try 2 forget this" in The Holy River the vineyards of Lavaux...

He also has mentioned nutting on his sisters pussy hair.

I'm sure he has alcohol from time to time but is not a alcoholic or a drinker. Just has the occasional or intimate glass of wine or champagne. One glass of wine does not a drinker make.

So what's the source for the Prince version? Played over the speakers at PP?

I was fairly sure you were joking... but I had to google it just in case. Should I be ashamed?

I have to say, I'm also in the minority on this song. I find this song to be severly overrated and not a very good song at all. I personally don't see what all the fuss is about it.
