Prince would have liked to be a teacher?

What do y'all think of the part on Arsenio where Prince says that if he hadn't made it in music, he would have liked to teach in some capacity. I have been a high school teacher and administrator for 18 years... I wonder what Prince would have been like as a teacher?? I wonder what age group he would like? Thoughts?

I would guess he would have been a pretty good music teacher, if he had learned theory and notation properly.

Could also imagine him as quite a groovy Religious Studies teacher, who would have to be careful to keep his personal views to himself lol .

Though judging by statements from him and his band members in recent years, it sounds like he operates the 'Music School/ Boot Camp' of Prince anyway. cool smile .

I am a teacher myself, and I worked as a teacher in the 90s, 20 years ago... that was extremely hard.

To be a teacher is very hard, and --- overrated.. wink

I agree that Prince could be a good one, though. But he needs to practise I guess.

He means to pass on his musical knowledge, he also says he is also still a student. There is absolutely no way he would have become the kind of teacher you are thinking of. Stand up in front of a class? Even prince knows this. He meant it as some kind of musical mentor. Dont get over excited dude.

Admit it, he would have been terrible at communicating, which is 90% of teaching.

That's exactly what he meant and he has said so in many interviews. Most notably the Tavis Smiley interview from 2009 where he talked about the importance of mentorship. Mentorship can be informal as well as formal. I'm sure the musicians he has worked with in the past and present, has learned a great deal about performing, hearing music, discipline and recording technologies etc.

Isn´t he teaching right now? I mean, the thing he did with Beyonce after they performed togather at the Grammys, as he said afterwards in many interviews, was kind of like teaching; asking her about what she knew of music an all.

He is one of the veterans now, so I guess it's the next logical step to teach the younger generation - and they could seriously use some of his guidance.

I don't know, I can't imagine Prince as a teacher. A teacher has to talk a lot, something Prince does not do. lol Prince is just now starting to be more at ease with himself, and open up since he's gotten older, so I can't imagine him being a teacher when he was younger, especially since Prince was so moody, among other things. lol

Prince is a teacher. Every baptized brother in the congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses is a teacher.

I can see how Prince would like being a teacher... being able to control a classroom full of people's action, tell them how to behave and what to believe, spoonfeed him the knowledge he deems fit... and if one of the students stepped out in the hallway with a drink in their hand, he'd add $500 to their tuition fees.

Actually, the teachers who talk a lot are some of the worst teachers there are. They all think that just because they are talking, that people are learning.

Prince is not like that. That's why I think he would be a good teacher. And I guess he already is in some ways.

I wonder what he would be able to teach. Probably nothing. Even music, I can't see him communicating his knowledge in an articulate way. And apart from music, what? He isn't a literate guy. How many books has he read in his whole life, apart from the Bible? I mean, all hail to Prince the musician, but teacher?

So prince would be a teacher that doesn't talk. Wonder how that would work. Teachers DO have to talk a lot, they have to explain, and if someone doesn't get it they have to explain again and again until they do get it. I dont think you know anything about teaching.

In all honesty, he already is.

Baring in mind the musical compositions, textures and silent unworded musicology with the many musicians he has worked with; fact is he taught and continues to do so.

Teaching is not a one way street; infact, every tour, album, interview, event and otherwise, he has been at the front of the classroom; whether on stage, tv, or internet social media avenue.... like plato's the republic. The perception of reality is where you stand, while others view you unknown by you and yet the stage is set.

In the wise words from him to me, "Yes, the show goes on, and my words to he, "Yes, Sir, it truly has and WILL continue to do so...See you in the final page, of this lifetime classroom."

I Love ya,
