Did Prince steal the Dance Electric title from Pointer Sisters because they'd stolen the title Automatic from him? It's not everyday that u c an album sharing TWO songs titles with a Prince album, still that's the case with Pointer Sister's Break Out (released November 1983, a year after 1999) which countains "Automatic" and "Dance Electric". It was a major hit, their most succesful album and an impressive effort in early electrofunk: it's very likely Prince heard it at some point and u don't come with a title such as "The Dance Electric" just like that... So... What do u think? [Edited 3/2/14 8:12am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Well Prince more or less stole the whole production and synth sound from their Automatic when he made Lavaux. The word Automatic is not excatly something you can take ownership of. I remember my father heard Eminiem use the word controversy on the song "Without Me" I think, and was almost like "HE STOLE FROM PRINCE!"... Anyways I think both Prince and The Pointer Sisters are fans of eachother. My Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/tundrah

It's so funny I'd never heard the similarity before but now that u said it, I'm listening to PS' Automatic and yeah, there's something from it in Lavaux No the title "Automatic" isn't something u can claim ownership on but "Dance Electric" isn't so common, and with P being the way he is I can easily imagine him thinking "Mmmh... they stole my song's title... Let's steal one of theirs... Mmmh... The Dance Electric... Now THAT sounds good!" A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

^That doesn't sound like Prince at all. I'll take those sisters to court! That's more like him. And then he decided against it, because The Belle Stars could sue him for stealing Sign of the Times.

interestingly, when the Pointer Sisters got ready to release the third single from their album, they had to change the title slighty. The song "Jump" was changed to "Jump (For My Love)" because Van Halen had just released a song called "Jump" and they didn't want to confuse the record-buying public.

They actually covered "I Feel For You" 2 years before Chaka Khan did:

Awesome! And Rebbie Jackson, too. It's sometimes awesome to see how early in his career P was covered. It's like Private Joy (already covered twice by 1985). A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Wow I forgot about Automatic! From the 1 sec. I heard Lavaux I kept saying "This reminds me of another song" but never put my finger on it.
Thank You! "Hey, I got the butta 4 ya muffin, honey.. I'm just 2 old 2 hold the knife!"

Thanks! I will have to check it out. I think it's funny how La Toya changed orgasmatron to cosmatron
Ps- everything was ELECTRIC in the 80's, it's in countless songtitles. Usually bad songs. "Electric Ave.," "Electric Boogie," etc.
Prince's use is an exception for "Electric Intercourse" alone.
