will hodgkinsons interview on the speedcast has got me excited about Plectrum Electrum

will hodgkinsons interview on speedcast was better than the mojo article, he explained what Prince said much better, and he really rated Plectrum Electrum. This is a guy who clearly has alot of common sense and is no mug. So it was good to hear what he had to say and put some of the qotes being said in the media and on here into prospective. Prince clearly beleves in the record and knows its one of his better cd/albums of recent times which has made me excited to hear the album. Although he did say it was close to sounding like Purple Rain. In that in sounded very organic and fresh! Lets hope Prince has really pulled one out the bag with this one. Also the reporter said it was quite clear that Prince wants this to be successful and heard.

Good interview. Dr. Funkenberry actually surprised me, I've never listened to his spreecasts before but he's more bright than I thought.

Change it one more time..

So did he reveal any additional info like number of tracks? Or if Wow is instrumental or the version played on the PA before shows?

Will said the more he thought back, the more he was convinced that Wow was an instrumental when he heard it. Him and J toyed with the idea that as this was A month or so ago, Prince may have decided to now go with a vocal version. The other caveat to this is that Will said this was all between 1am and 3am in the morning, and he was in the presence of Prince, so his memory of all the tracks might not be spot on. wink
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Dr. Funkenberry is a goof and I say this because his discussion points on Prince's commentary on black people getting a second chance in the entertainment industry.

yeah, well the interview pretty much cleared it up that Prince wasn't terribly serious when he said this................but it doesn't say that in the magazine because as we all know controversy sells

but yeah, funkenberry didn't really clear things up either

as far as the new album goes, if I were sitting in a room with Prince giving an interview and he was letting me listen to his new material I would probably love everything I heard

but some of the songs he mentioned that would be on the album did not impress me

FIXURLIFEUP? really?

he also mentioned he heard more than a few songs that had vocals by Hannah..........no offense but that is not what I want to hear - but - oh well

.

The same has been said about EVERY CD Prince has put out in the past 15 years.

.

And each time the result was zilch.

.

Prince clearly beleves in the record

.

So that's why 3EG was on hold for months? So that's why he's been sitting on the album for months? In the 1990s he bitched about WB taking months to catch up with him and him losing interest in the project by the time it got released, now he's taking ages and is obviously less than focused (e.g. Breakfast and other non-3EG songs, NPG concerts,...).

Bart, we all know you love to hear yourself bitch and whine, but think before you write please. the man doesn't have a label to do the promotion and selling for him so he has to think of the ways to promote it. Unless you're Beyonce you don't just release stuff into thin air and expect people to take notice and invest money in purchasing it.

^This time Bart has a point. Prince has been with 3rdEyeGirl for a year, he signed the Kobalt deal, so why is this record taking such a long time? is a good question.

I think the consensus is that 3rd Eye Girl have improved massively from last year - maybe that's got something to do with it?

When he completed the recording last year, how many people heard about 3rd Eye Girl and would have bought something from them if they saw that name on Itunes (even if associated with the name Prince)? Months later how many more thousands of people know the name now? Now, if one THINKS about this for 5 seconds or more, does it not make sense to get the name out there more or take a chance and release an album that only frequenters of the Org would recognize? Just think about it financially and ask yourself again why one would wait with such a product if making money from it is someone important to the musician in question. Thanks

We all know about those points you raised, its nothing new, but maybe it is different this time and he has took his time and produced a so called good album! lets hope so anyhow

that's true..

i remember before lotusflow3r came out reading that Prince kept the best songs from 3121 and PE recording sessions for the lotusflow3r album and took his time with it making sure everything was great. I was thinking this could be the album i've been waiting for from Prince and after i heard the album, it didn't meet my expectations.. i still liked it though..

Here we go again. An interviewer whose been in his presence & is so impressed with him going on about how good the album is. Not buying it until I buy it and give it a listen myself.

to be fair to the reporter, he came across well in the funkenbeery interview, and didnt seem all that in awe of the situation. He also states that he thinks Becks album will be one of the best of the year and judging by the reviews thats getting, he got that right. He also said that Plectrum Electrum could be one of the years best too. So lets hope so.
