I love it and how it works on the Black album Prince needs to listen to the Org because we are the ones saying we want to hear more of your musical catalogue than the same setlists year after year. If PR was then, and 3rd Eye Girl is now then stop play all the hot stuff of 1983-1987 Play LotusFlow3r MinnSound Elixer 20Ten & 3rdEyeGirl

I'm not going to tear the ladies down because of how Prince might be presenting them or how you might view them. They are good people and were performing and creating music before Prince. Like all the other musicians... they will continue to record and perform music after Prince. Just like all the others.
Maybe he got the idea from the Truth album song:3rd Eye, I don't know what it means, same way NPG doesn't mean anything anymore

the 1st line is mostly up 2 Prince in my opinion . I think most fans agree with the 2nd 2 lines . I LOVE I mean I LOOVEEE 1978-1989 But when 20Ten came out I wanted videos I wanted 2 hear renditions of the songs, promotions etc . When LotusFlow3r came out I supported it, I even believed in the whole protege Bria because Sade is taking to long thing, and there was a big blow up of the balloon and then the air let down. . I want Prince to stop saying 'this is where it's at now' while mostly pulling from 1978-1989-not working with those people but wanting to work with young people playing 1978-1989 music. I want to hear a good mix of his catalogue with more focus on more recent stuff and music hardly performed give me some Truth, Rainbow Children, Planet Earth, LotusFlower, 20Ten, 3rd Eye Girl with flourishes of music from the 1990s and some from the 1980s. Do some smaller set shows that you feel you can express these new albums with.

OF4S in my opinion that's exactly what he is doing.
These recent London shows have included newer tracks almost everytime. Marz, Screwdriver, funk n roll, plectrumelectrum, fixurlifeup, cause and effect from the recent stuff, colonised mind, dreamer, crimson and clover, guitar from the 2007-2009 era. chaos and disorder, I like it there, endorphinmachine, from the 90s. These were pretty much full versions, all verses and choruses with solos. It's the classic 80s tracks he tends to truncate or tease with on the piano or sampler. THEN - That first pic shows Prince less of a frontman back then, more shy to speak, and either standing off to the side letting W or L do most of the talking/representing the group, whereas NOW, with 3rdeyegirl, he makes himself more visible as the frontman/leader of the group, standing out as the 'main event' the majority of the fans pay to see.

I hope he does more, I think in order for any album to get exposure performing the music is a must, not just 2 or 3 songs and hope the album stands on it's own
He's in a different arena now, one he chose, and one that is harder to get out to the public. But performing songs from the last 4 albums more and more would definately put me in a different state of mind.

I liked that Prince, but Prince never did interviews and speakings well and still says he doesn't like it. At that award show they won 3 awards. He went up to get the When Doves Cry on his own and grabbed the award muttered a thank u and ran back to his seat [instead of going backstage] it was funny. Everyone thought it was cute of course. . He actually did a lot of that with letting the ladies speak for him in certain aspects. But that didn't happen oftern with W&L back then. Prince did a lot of interviews in 1985/86 which was rare. Also when Sheila E & Cat came on scene in 1987/88 he had them do the same thing. He spoke even less during that period. And had Cat & Sheila only agree to talk about certain things. . But back in the 1980s he never was presented as 'less of a frontman or standing off to the side' that was at that 1 show. All the others Prince took to the mic or was on his own or just had W&L or Lisa with him. But he never stood to the side outside of that 1 award receiving:for Favorite Album of the year. But the other 2 awards Prince accepted by himself. the other he accepted with the band and gave a speach . Sometimes I wonder how much of the 'shy' thing was real. Because most people said, he he was in the dressing rooms and backstage he was not shy at all. The American Bandstand w/Dick Clark where he pretended to not want to talk and such. All staged.
That whole night 1985 was magic, the Purple Rain performance his entrance with his father and taking 3 awards, Sheila E performing and breaking out the glo sticks...
On behalf of Prince & the Revolution We would like 2 thank U 4 believing & sharing with us What we've been able 2 create 4 everybody on vynal We would also like 2 tell U we believe in the spirit and we thank U 4 believing 2 Thanks 4 this award -Wendy
Thank U Very Much - Prince Lionel Ritchie: Outrageous Outrageous!! Prince you stay in your seat, you stay in your seat
For all of us Life is death without adventure and adventure only comes 2 those who are will 2 be daring and 2 take chances I just want 2 thank first of all God and all of the American public my band Wendy Lisa Matt Mark & Bobby and all the staff at Warner Brothers and Dick Clark and all of U here tonight and I just want... ^^^^ This is also why I say don't used Purple Rain, in comparison to 3rdEyeGirl
It's almost like saying 'the new color is Gold' Gold era
or Graffiti Bridge as Purple Rain pt II
Let 3rdEyeGirl stand alone. If you believe in it then work it out...

I hear you. I think the dilemma he faces is that a good portion of people who pay to see him in concert only know the older stuff. The masses haven't bought his music post WB day. Yet, they make up a good part of the audiences when he tours because to them he's become a 80's nostalgia novelty act. If he stops pandering to them then his touring audience will shrink. Change it one more time..

Well if the Dick Clark thing was staged, then that was genius, because it gained a lot of attention, and kept people talking about it to this day. I don't see too much comparison with the Revolution vs 3rdeyegirl. 3rdeyegirl doesn't have a history with Prince that went international like during the Revolution era. The Revolution era was during a time when music was being revolutionized. The Prince of 'Then' with the Revolution remains in its own legacy;no comparison to the 3rdeyegirl band members really. The 3rdeyegirl band is pretty much like 3 students learning from a master musician/artist, and I think they'll do much better as a group in Europe, as a rock band, moreso than in the U.S. Just my 2 cents.

exactly. It would be dumb not to acknowledge material from 78-89 BUT those of us who are loyal fans who have seen multiple gigs would really like to hear a higher volume/proportion of newer and rarer material. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

It's always good for hardcore fans to see the rarer stuff. The problem is even when he does smaller shows casual fans will still go along to see what the fuss is about and whinge when he doesn't get his purple rain on. It does look like he's playing a fairly good mix at the recent shows.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep it was, it added to that whole mysterious brooding musician image.
I agree. I don't like the comparison and it doesn't do the ladies in the 3rdEyeGirl band any justice. Just let them stand on their own. There is a large audience for the rock edge he's going for. He's always had it, just wants a larger and youthful audience. It will draw an older 'classic rock' audience too

Well, 3rdeyegirl could very well all be done and dusted by the end of the year, but he'll still be playing Purple Rain to pay his bills. Just sayin'

if prince toured only new 3rd eye tunes people would be more pissed than the whole gold era when he ditched his hits .. except these songs are even worse .. like a million times worse .. and I hate the gold era .. its like tony m wrote all the tunes and prince sang them

NOW!
Hey, I'm simply glad Prince is alive and happy and making music and peforming these amazing live shows. We should all be thankful for this, regardless of what era we prefer.
Cheers! | |
