Prince makes list of 100 Coolest Americans don't know if this has been posted yet, but Prince been added to an exibit featuring the 100 coolest Americans The 100 coolest Americans
Photographic exhibition of the 100 most cool Americans includes film star James Dean, writer Ernest Hemingway and singer Madonnahttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/10621202/The-100-coolest-Americans.html You know the 100 coolest Americans must be a pretty hip bunch if Janis Joplin, Chet Baker, Dean Martin and George Clooney fail to make the cut. Elvis Presley, James Dean, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna do make the choice of a hundred actors, actresses, artists, musicians and writers in the United States whose creativity and style have shaped the concept of cool. There is even a welcome place for country singer Willie Nelsonin the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. The exhibition, which took five years to bring to fruition, has been put together by Joel Dinerstein, professor of American Civilisation at Tulane University in New Orleans, and Frank Goodyear III, co-director of Bowdoin College Museum of Art. To make their selection, the two curators came up with four defining factors of cool, of which people chosen had to fit at least three categories: THE AMERICAN COOL 100 LIST: The Roots of Cool Fred Astaire Bix Beiderbecke Louise Brooks James Cagney Frederick Douglass Greta Garbo Ernest Hemingway Zora Neale Hurston Jack Johnson Duke Kahanamoku Buster Keaton HL Mencken Georgia O’Keeffe Dorothy Parker Bessie Smith Willie “The Lion” Smith Walt Whitman Bert Williams

I thought, back in 2003, he was "provisionally cool" - like his net worth, his coolness factor seems to have risen since then. http://www.theonion.com/a...nt-o,2982/

Nice.
And Marilyn Monroe, Grace Jones and Eryka Badu should be on the cool list too. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

And Marilyn Monroe, Grace Jones and Eryka Badu should be on the cool list too. I do hope they mean the early 20th century heavyweight boxing champ, and not the early 21st century snooze-pop champ. It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

Yes, Jack Johnson is in the "Roots of Cool" section, so it's the early 20th century. NOT the snooze pop guy.

there are SOME cool people on the list, but where is Barack Obama? Hell, even Bill Clinton is cooler than James Dean. And where is Michael Jackson? This list is not cool, there is a difference from being slow and being cool. Some of these people on this list just slow. And Christopher Walken is not on the list either! Denzel Washington? Really? Samuel L. not cool? "If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so". Thomas Jefferson

• cultural rebellion, or transgression in a given historical moment • iconicity, or a certain level of high-profile recognition • recognised cultural legacy (lasting more than a decade)
